If you wear the jacket the opposite way so that the wind won't make your jacket bloated if you zip it or flying if you unzipped it and also if raining, the rain would sip into the jacket thru the zip because rain here is pouring even if you wear water repellent jacket it won't stop the water to sip in so opposite way, is much convenient.
Wearing the jacket opposite side reduce air friction, or reduce rain water sipping into the jacket zipper. And the back is cooler when riding the bike. It is hot and sweaty if you wear a complete normal method.
As a Malaysian, I think the magic hand need to be research properly by the tourist coming into the county.I once saw a tourist use it to cross highway road,so crazy even local people wouldn't do that.Yeah,the traffic did stop but its so damm dangerous 😅

I remember a German friend who came to Penang for the first time, to join a German firm as an Executive. He arrived in Penang well passed midnight and was brought to an ongoing Company function. He was very hungry as he not eaten since he left Germany. When the function was over about 3.00 a.m., they all went to a Mamak restaurant to grab a bite. My friend had his first Nasi Kandar with the multiple gravies, with Chicken and Mutton, and ever since his favourite meal has been Nasi Kandar.
I asked my brother about this. He said, when waiting at the traffic lights the sun gonna seared your arms. Bc the arms is the exposed part of the body right? N no place to hide them from the sun. So that's where the jacket helps. 2nd reason they wear the jacket like this at night too. Its to prevent your chest becomes too cold bc of the wind. 3rd reason why they wear it backwards, not the proper, normal way. Its bc if they zip it up, it'll become too hot inside. So that's why its backwards n opened at the back so it won't be too hot or too cold. Balanced 😅

7:57 It is certainly a waste of water and I don't like wasting water, that's why I don't do that, as a Malaysian. First I open the tap, let water run to wet the dishes, and then close the tap, wash the dishes with soap, and only after that I open the tap again to clean the dishes thoroughly
The smallest pack of rice is 5kg, not all pre-prepared Malaysian food are served cold, some of the Chinese mix rice stores have hot/warm water underneath the dishes to keep them warm. It all depends on which restaurant you go to. Main reason why we still drive when the distance is so short is because of the hot weather and sometimes unpredictable weather.
Yep the dishes usually cold,but we don't mind it becouse the rice is still warm. The only thing served hot is masakan panas like nasi goreng,mee goreng etc. Usually 3pm onwards.
@@sue7014 2kg packs are not so commonly found, same with the 1kg packs. We used to have these 1kg or 2kg more readily found in supermarkets or hypermarkets, you don't find these small packs so easily nowadays.

I am a motorcyclist, the reason we wear jacket backward i. it is easier to wear and taking it off ii. the back is not as important because the wind and rain come from the front when riding iii. it makes the jacket longer that can cover the legs and things/bag in the basket

Very observant and so true especially on our motorists on the road that even drive the locals insane....especially the jumping of lanes just because it's a slot ahead then forcing its way back to previous lane because the driver wants to turn off into another road from the original lane. The motorcyclists are often so helpful during accidents or breakdowns. They would stop and help especially when the victims are women and children. When my car had punctured tyre around midnight at a long dark stretch at rural kelantan, the motorcyclists all budak2 kampung were so helpful and even called a local mechanic to come out n open his shop to repair the tyre. Amazing. Syukur alhamdulillah.
That's nice. Malaysians are considerate, and very helpful in many situations. It is something that needs to be celebrated and appreciated. Take care of your mum. My mum just turned 99 yesterday, and she celebrated with my sister and brother and their kids, while I attended via Facetime. It is important to spend time with the parents 🤗
I'm a woman and wearing jacket or sweater at the front help cover my chest from being visible during rides. My head scarf gets blown away by strong wind so it's not functional on rides. Plus it's very hot here so I don't want to cover my back with thick material. My thin scarf already cover my back and it's very hot during stops with all the layers. Women need to wear undergarments underneath shirt, shirt, scarf and adding jacket is overkill.😂 Edit: The sun here isn't like the West. Must cover arms so they don't get burnt. I once made that mistake and suffered for quite a while. My arms sting for some time and after it dried, it shed like reptile skin. I suffered but the experience did amuse me. I even scared my sister by pulling the shed skin in front of her.😂😂

No, many Malaysian don't eat rice all day. Rice "campur" only taken once normally for lunch, roti bakar, roti canai & kuih for breakfast, noodle, western food or burger ramly for dinner. 😊👍

I get it and I know it. I use water as well, and it was one of my great learnings of being here. But what I do is, I wipe the toilet seat dry after I use the water. At least, that part is dry. Does that make sense to you? 🙏🏽

The hand to cross the road. Foreigner often confused the meaning of it. The purpose not about stopping a car. It's just letting the driver know "I'm crossing the road now ,it is not a mistake." Because sometimes people crossing the road is a mistake and they are not aware of it which could lead to a road accident. So the driver aware someone is crossing and slow the car down; if not, the driver will think you are accidentally crossing the road without knowing the cars are running, and the driver will slow down but would honk to alert you.
I had to learn this the hard way as I was learning to cross the roads in Malaysia. Nowadays, when I raise or wave my hand in Germany, drivers wonder what's "wrong" with that guy, haha. Different culture, different ways of doing thing. It always amazes me and I enjoy. This is the cultural richness of our world. Thank you for your great explanation :-)
Jauhla! It’s not the distance. It’s the sweaty and smelly feeling you get afterwards. 😅 And I am a hiker and love walking. I would drive too for a short distance if I am not dressed for the occasion to take on the challenges of walking. However, I hate those people who double parked and block the road, just to be as closed to the entrance as possible. Especially from those big beefy cars who think they own the road. Just walk a bit dude! It’s good for you! I pity those people who can’t walk 10-20 meters away because how lazy and entitled they are.

Walking distances especially when you are well dressed can cause you to sweat. For ladies the make up would disappear under the hot Sun. That is why you would see them appear in the open after the Sun goes down.
Hi, i’am a bikers. One of the reason wearing jacket like that because to beat the heat. If you riding in hot day or afternoon, can be very hot & uncomfortable. So, wearing like this can reduce the heat & at the same time protect yourself frm the front wind & light rain.

Thank you. I really love the heat, but I appreciate the air-conditioning. And yes, at that time, I just came from Germany so my "belief structure" was still very German. Now, after so many years, well, I do drive my short distances to avoid getting burned. Even so this is harder, because of the lack of parking opportunities. 🤗

The motorcycle riding with children and wife is mainly due to economic reasons.. Parents can't afford a car to take their kids out so have to make it with a single motorcycle.. Especially in rural areas.. In kl you will see a few but not as much.

8:49 i think the main purpose of the blower is to make the shoes dry(maybe cause i always stand infront of it after using the toilet) because not all toilet are smelly and it making it easier for the cleaner cause they dont have to mop the floor every so often

Beras usually came in 5 or 10kg. But there are still loose you can buy in kg in some kedai runcit. Mixing all kind of food in one meal seems more likely they can afford it kind of style. Not really for regular people like me. It also came with a risk though. Gout we only knew in last 20 years.

Reduce dusk, air resistance like parachute effect when air enter jacket unless rider use air tight jacket. This air blower use in the toilet is to dry the wet floor after cleaning to avoid slippery floor.
Malaysian wear jackets in reverse just to protect ourselves from the traffic dust and the exhaust pipe dust from cars in front, and rain. Not because we want to keep warm. The Malaysia weather is not enough. The back left open is keep the air flow
depends on place in Malaysia, in my place in Malaysia as well, we will usually stop at zebra crossing when we see people going to cross...but my place is a small town , probably not the case in big city like KL

The air blower on the floor I'm sure offices and mall has it only because many people are using it and they wet the floor when they use the sink. At home nobody needs such thing
I think it would be funny to have such thing at home. We leave our bathroom doors open sometimes, to dry the floors, especially after showers. And yes, it is better to have an air blower than someone who accidentally slips because of the wet floor. 🤗
Rice is more healthier vs oat based food, eg bread. This is due to gluten protein. It is a health risk to eat gluten. It is the staple food for asia perhaps Africa and Middle East too

But when I worked in office and just sitting in front of computer, that's when I gained a lot of weight especially when I kept ordering my food in (usually fast food) due to the busy work schedule 😂

Haha, yes, it is possible to buy smaller portions of rice nowadays. But there was no Speedmart in 1993, and I was very limited in my choices. What did I do? I started to eat outside, which was so much easier, especially since I really can't cook well 😅. I learned that hot water washes off the oily stuff from the dishes faster and more thoroughly. Am I right or wrong? I am not sure, but I get your point that cold water is sufficient for hot weather :-). Thank you for taking the time and contribute. I appreciate it 🤗

8:40 the blower is to dry the floor. We don't care about it though, I find the blowers loud. In the tropics, it's always wet and what is wet will dry very fast too. Also it's something from the past, our shower room is outdoor and built around water well. That's where we take our bath. Our toilet is also outdoor behidn our house. And it's goign to be wet everywhere, and we dont find it a problem. Not like the water is going to freeze. And it's not in the top floor of a 2 storey house with wooden floor.

I've just watched your vid for a minute and half and immediately found a few mistakes 😂 Firstly, the only zebras in Malaysia are in zoos, and I'm pretty sure they don't cross. Those things are better known in Malaysia as pedestrian crossings, and they're strictly for aesthetics only. Whether you're a pedestrian or actually a zebra, we don't use pedestrian crossings. We just cross. We use the power of the hand to stop cars, sure, but they don't work on the footpaths (or sidewalk, if you prefer). The power of the hand only works while you're actually on the road. So, essentially, here are the steps to cross the road in Malaysia: 1. Be on the side of the road where you want to cross. Being on a predetermined crossing area is absolutely optional. 2. Start walking. 3. Put out your hand towards oncoming traffic. 3a. If you see a car accelerating towards you, stop right there in the middle of the lane, stare at the driver, while keeping your hands up. You have to trust in the power of the hand. 4. Continue your journey across the road.

Another thing about food. The hotel breakfast has so many varieties to eat. Germany hotel's breakfast are so boring. Only like bread, cheese, ham. I've been to Hamburg, Copenhagen.
Oh yes. I am totally with you on this. Actually, German food is kind of boring, but hotel food.... oh my goodness. But still, it is better than the food in the hotels in the US. Have you been there? I always love the breakfast offerings in Malaysian and Asian hotels. The spread is amazing. 🤩
About the blower in the toilet, it's mostly to push out the moist air. Why they don't just make a ceiling blower? They do. But because of the use of bidet, malaysian toilets are always wet and that overhead moisture blower can't keep up. So they have the floor blower to help out with that. Once the floor's wetness becomes atmospheric moisture, it gets mixed with the drier outside air and keeps the floor more or less dry.
People in Malaysia normally would wear jacket like that I think because they want to protect their skin from the sun light (having bright skin is a thing in Malaysia) but at the same time they don't wanna get too hot if they had their whole body covered because they weather in this part of the world could be extremely hot. The whole family on a motorcycle isn't actually unique. Some families just couldn't afford a car. Great video though!

I find most motorcyclist a menace as they often ride dangerously without caring for their lives and the property of others. Not all, but many. 3. Probably to reduce drag resistance. If put on the conventional way, imagine a parachute attached to you 4. Usually in rural areas, you'll find families like these. Maybe due to poor family planning. Having kids without the means to offer them safe upbringing and transportation. 5. Can't deny this fact, especially on the highways. Cars switching lanes dangerously just to get to their destination a minute earlier. 6. I'm guessing probably due to the hit weather. In some countries I've lived in, walking 10km a day is no problem. But even 500m in Malaysia, I will be sweating and overheating. 7. Rice is a staple in most Asian countries. And there are 1kg rice bags at Publika grocery, where you took those pictures! 8. I barely eat at mamak to comment on this. But I think for mixed rice and nasi kandar, the more the merrier. 9. Cold food probably means that it has been out on display for several hours and not fresh. Avoid if you can. 10. My kitchen and bathrooms have hot and cold water outlets. Most of the houses in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur have these features because this town is catered towards expats. 11. Malaysian toilets are known to always be WET. As a Malaysian, I still don't know why. My wife always complains about how public toilets here are disgusting and wet all the time. It's happening all over the country and it's disgusting.

Toilets in Malaysia are wet because after using the toilet, everyone will wash themself and wash the toilet with water, in order to clean both the body and make sure toilet itself is cleaned with water too. In my experience the bathrooms are typically relatively clean, but just wet. Honestly, to me I feel like the toilet is more clean if it has been hosed down with water after each use like is typical in Malaysia (especially if it is a sit down toilet), versus what I would often experience in the USA growing up which was often in public bathrooms the sit-down toilets had someone else’s pee splashed on the seat… then you need to either find a different stall that is less dirty to put down toilet paper on the seat so you can use it… either that or go get some paper towels, cover them in soap, clean the public toilet seat yourself… I feel Public bathroom is often more hygienic in Malaysia because either it is a squat toilet so I am not sitting where someone else sat to urinate (not sitting on anything at all and just wash myself & everything around with water after I am done), or if it is a Western style sit toilet at least someone else’s urine has not been left there, it has been washed off quickly, then I put down toilet paper before sitting for sanitary purposes. It can be a bit annoying that the bathroom floors are slippery from being wet, but at least our bodies and also the bathroom itself are more clean.

That's really new to me, and I will do this when i use it after I use the toilet. Public toilets were really dirty when I arrived in Malaysia a long time ago and they have improved a lot. Not everywhere but in many places, which is good. There was a time when it was said that Malaysia has the dirtiest toilets in the world, and I think that this is behind us. And you are right about the toilets in the West. While they look clean, they are not always clean. I never liked the toilets in the US but I am also happy to say that toilets in Germany are, generally, very clean. And get cleaned very often. Thank you again for your comment. i also use the jacket the same way, the reason is because its already become a trend, the wheather at Malaysia is unpredictable.. it could be rain /prevent sunburn

Humid, warm weather, bad odour from other vehicles goes to the front body first while riding n if use zipper in front it will be to hot for us. If use unzipped jacket infront of body to reduce hot weather , there will be many superman on the road. So we use jacket that way
Riding the motorbike in the city normally results in a dirty oily shirt. Especially if you're on the road for more than half an hour. The jacket functions to keep one's shirt clean at the end of the ride. Malaysian weather is consistently hot. Wearing the jacket fully buttoned/zipped is too hot, especially if you are riding under to hot blazing sun. Wearing the jacket backwards and open solves the polluted air and blazing hot sun problem.
This makes sense. When I came here and rode a bike, I closed the jacket from the front, and yes, it really hot. Sweaty and really uncomfortable. Thank you for sharing your insights. I appreciate it. 😄
proper way to wash dishes is to rinse all the sauces, oil and residue from them under running water. turn off the tap. then start washing. then rinse the soaped dishes one by one, putting another one below the running water before you drain the clean one out away from the sink. that way you will not waste running water. put all cutleries into a bowl or cup (if there are any in the sink) then rinse them together. you'll save a lot of water. also, clean and rinse the plastic ware first (usually separately). they tend to have oil residue even after rinse if the dish drop has been diluted or oily after washing for a while. however, big scale industrial washing will need different techniques.
Wow. I am impressed. Thank you for your detailed description. This should truly help those in need. One thing that i would add is the following. I would take the tissues used during eating and try to wipe off the sauces and oils to the best way possible. This way, they won't go into the rivers or elsewhere and keep polluting. Any thoughts about this?
@@asiaminddynamics yes that's what a lot of shops do, if used tissues are abundant on the table. then again, it's not very hygienic come to think about it. there could be phlegm or some other bodily discharges in there. own home maybe it's ok if you can be sure it's only for wiping the lips. most of the time leftovers are brushed into the bin with chopsticks or other used utensils before being put into the sink. most shops have a catchment tray after the sink tho. some even have oil separator installed. they then sell the used oil to biofuel collectors. using used tissues to wipe off residues is most practical on creamy stuff like cake on plates.

As a Malaysian,i know crossing the street in malaysia Is quite dangerous. Sometimes we have to always be careful when crossing, there might be some cars or motorcycles passing through. I know,this is the bad reality of living in malaysia. And I know it's especially frightening for for foreigners who first came to Malaysia just to find the bad reality here.for me, it really sucks to live here. But at least what we can hope for is to start educating our Malaysian students from primary school.
Oh I get you. You describe exactly how I felt upon my arrival. It is something that tourists or visitors from overseas should learn before they come. It takes some getting used to, but became part of my life. And now, it is funny, when I go back to visit Germany, and also wave my hand to stop cars, haha. - The 'traffic-hand' hand thing: Is it really unique to just Malaysia? huh... - The toilets: No excuses there. But we are getting better. 20 years ago the public toilet here is soooo much worse. Ugh, let's not elaborate on that. Let's just agree than as of current, there are still lots of room for improvement. Anyway, on the air blower. No, it's not to drive away the smell outside. Haha. I believe it's to 'dry out' the toilets faster. Due to the humidity here, sometimes toilet floors can remain wet 24/7 (especially if its actively being used), which can lead to badness all around. So this extra assist is needed to let the floor dry out, especially after a round of cleaning. - On Malaysian traffic, which relate to weaving across the lanes: I haven't made any actual experiment on this, but a lot of time it seems the fast lane is actually the slowest moving lane during heavy traffic. Which is very very frustrating sometimes. And in these situations, when one moves to a seemingly faster-moving lane, the moment one completes the switch, that lane seemed to slow down and the original lane speed up. Even thinking of it makes me feel stressed. haha. - On the rice: Who cooks rice just enough for a person for one meal? It's madness. haha. If you're using proper size rice cooker (not those mini ones), the minimum amount of rice one cook is usually 2 'cups'. Anything less and you're operating the rice-cooker way below the required specs...i think. So if you're really cooking for one, learn to cook rice manual-style, or use those mini rice-cooker.

2:35 The reversed motorcyclist jacket: The jacket is more for protection against the exhaust fumes and rain rather than body protection. The kind of jacket they wear wont protect the skin, but you can avoid from smelling like an exhaust gas. Also for the rain, you will get wet from rain anyway, but wearign it like you'll still be 80 percent dry, good enough. Why not wear it like a sane person? Easy to take off. Why not wear proper ridign jacket? Too expensive and hard to store.

My family and I was in Kuala Lumpur about three years ago and I almost had a heart attack when the "Grab" driver 's car had no seatbelts whatsoever in his car and he was driving quite fast ,weaving through the traffic.From where I came from, it would be a serious offence! Also,the toilets at the airport,a really weird toilet ,a hole on the concrete floor,had to wait for a proper toilet,I nearly passed out here as well, quite an expereience.You learn as you go along,I guess!!
Haha, thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, traffic is an adventure here, and could be marketedas adventure tourism, right? It takes some getting used to it, but after a while, it becomes normal and quite heartwarming. People here are nice, and relaxed, most of the time. Friendly, respectful and helpful. That's at least my experience. And I hope that my video can help some tourists get over their shock a bit faster, to feel better more quickly 🤗
It's an offence in Malaysia too. If the driver got stopped, that's easily a few hundred's worth of fines. But our traffic police mostly just patrol for people driving dangerously and are 'VERY lenient towards some offences. I've seen a grandpa who rode a motorcycle without helmet at an intersection being greeted by a traffic police saying, "Uncle, I see you're going bald today." to which that grandpa sheepishly wore his helmet. If you happen to come across something like that again though, it would be best to make a report to grab. Us locals don't normally make such reports. Because you see, we either give 5 stars or 1 star, 5 stars if we're okay with the driver, 1 star if we really hate the driver.

If you wear the jacket the opposite way so that the wind won't make your jacket bloated if you zip it or flying if you unzipped it and also if raining, the rain would sip into the jacket thru the zip because rain here is pouring even if you wear water repellent jacket it won't stop the water to sip in
so opposite way, is much convenient.

Wearing the jacket opposite side reduce air friction, or reduce rain water sipping into the jacket zipper. And the back is cooler when riding the bike. It is hot and sweaty if you wear a complete normal method.

I remember a German friend who came to Penang for the first time, to join a German firm as an Executive. He arrived in Penang well passed midnight and was brought to an ongoing Company function. He was very hungry as he not eaten since he left Germany. When the function was over about 3.00 a.m., they all went to a Mamak restaurant to grab a bite. My friend had his first Nasi Kandar with the multiple gravies, with Chicken and Mutton, and ever since his favourite meal has been Nasi Kandar.
That's a great introduction to Malaysia and I believe from that point on, he was in love with the country!
I asked my brother about this. He said, when waiting at the traffic lights the sun gonna seared your arms. Bc the arms is the exposed part of the body right? N no place to hide them from the sun. So that's where the jacket helps.
2nd reason they wear the jacket like this at night too. Its to prevent your chest becomes too cold bc of the wind.
3rd reason why they wear it backwards, not the proper, normal way. Its bc if they zip it up, it'll become too hot inside. So that's why its backwards n opened at the back so it won't be too hot or too cold. Balanced 😅

The blower in toilet is to help drying up the floor much quicker actually and thus prevent anybody fell from slippery.

7:57 It is certainly a waste of water and I don't like wasting water, that's why I don't do that, as a Malaysian. First I open the tap, let water run to wet the dishes, and then close the tap, wash the dishes with soap, and only after that I open the tap again to clean the dishes thoroughly

The smallest pack of rice is 5kg, not all pre-prepared Malaysian food are served cold, some of the Chinese mix rice stores have hot/warm water underneath the dishes to keep them warm. It all depends on which restaurant you go to. Main reason why we still drive when the distance is so short is because of the hot weather and sometimes unpredictable weather.

Yep the dishes usually cold,but we don't mind it becouse the rice is still warm. The only thing served hot is masakan panas like nasi goreng,mee goreng etc. Usually 3pm onwards.

I am a motorcyclist, the reason we wear jacket backward
i. it is easier to wear and taking it off
ii. the back is not as important because the wind and rain come from the front when riding
iii. it makes the jacket longer that can cover the legs and things/bag in the basket

The motorcyclists are often so helpful during accidents or breakdowns. They would stop and help especially when the victims are women and children. When my car had punctured tyre around midnight at a long dark stretch at rural kelantan, the motorcyclists all budak2 kampung were so helpful and even called a local mechanic to come out n open his shop to repair the tyre. Amazing. Syukur alhamdulillah.

That's nice. Malaysians are considerate, and very helpful in many situations. It is something that needs to be celebrated and appreciated. Take care of your mum. My mum just turned 99 yesterday, and she celebrated with my sister and brother and their kids, while I attended via Facetime. It is important to spend time with the parents 🤗
I'm a woman and wearing jacket or sweater at the front help cover my chest from being visible during rides. My head scarf gets blown away by strong wind so it's not functional on rides. Plus it's very hot here so I don't want to cover my back with thick material. My thin scarf already cover my back and it's very hot during stops with all the layers. Women need to wear undergarments underneath shirt, shirt, scarf and adding jacket is overkill.😂
Edit: The sun here isn't like the West. Must cover arms so they don't get burnt. I once made that mistake and suffered for quite a while. My arms sting for some time and after it dried, it shed like reptile skin. I suffered but the experience did amuse me. I even scared my sister by pulling the shed skin in front of her.😂😂

I understand about the sunburn. When I rode my bike from KL to Pangkor Island, I just wore a T-Shirt...... that was when I was new to the country. You can image how badly burned I was, and I could hardly move my fingers for quite a while. So yeah, I get it :-)

No, many Malaysian don't eat rice all day. Rice "campur" only taken once normally for lunch, roti bakar, roti canai & kuih for breakfast, noodle, western food or burger ramly for dinner. 😊👍
Not every Malaysian eat rice every single time of the day. I get it. But that was my impression when I came to Malaysia and worked at the Prime Minister's Department, haha. I was amazed.

Wet toilet - especially muslim, plain water is the best medium to clean ourselves. Thats the teaching of islam
I get it and I know it. I use water as well, and it was one of my great learnings of being here. But what I do is, I wipe the toilet seat dry after I use the water. At least, that part is dry. Does that make sense to you? 🙏🏽

The hand to cross the road. Foreigner often confused the meaning of it. The purpose not about stopping a car. It's just letting the driver know "I'm crossing the road now ,it is not a mistake."
Because sometimes people crossing the road is a mistake and they are not aware of it which could lead to a road accident.
So the driver aware someone is crossing and slow the car down; if not, the driver will think you are accidentally crossing the road without knowing the cars are running, and the driver will slow down but would honk to alert you.
I had to learn this the hard way as I was learning to cross the roads in Malaysia. Nowadays, when I raise or wave my hand in Germany, drivers wonder what's "wrong" with that guy, haha. Different culture, different ways of doing thing. It always amazes me and I enjoy. This is the cultural richness of our world. Thank you for your great explanation :-)

Walking distances especially when you are well dressed can cause you to sweat. For ladies the make up would disappear under the hot Sun. That is why you would see them appear in the open after the Sun goes down.

Hi, i’am a bikers. One of the reason wearing jacket like that because to beat the heat. If you riding in hot day or afternoon, can be very hot & uncomfortable. So, wearing like this can reduce the heat & at the same time protect yourself frm the front wind & light rain.

The motorcycle riding with children and wife is mainly due to economic reasons.. Parents can't afford a car to take their kids out so have to make it with a single motorcycle.. Especially in rural areas.. In kl you will see a few but not as much.

Beras usually came in 5 or 10kg. But there are still loose you can buy in kg in some kedai runcit. Mixing all kind of food in one meal seems more likely they can afford it kind of style. Not really for regular people like me. It also came with a risk though. Gout we only knew in last 20 years.

Haha, yes, it is possible to buy smaller portions of rice nowadays. But there was no Speedmart in 1993, and I was very limited in my choices. What did I do? I started to eat outside, which was so much easier, especially since I really can't cook well 😅. I learned that hot water washes off the oily stuff from the dishes faster and more thoroughly. Am I right or wrong? I am not sure, but I get your point that cold water is sufficient for hot weather :-).

8:40 the blower is to dry the floor. We don't care about it though, I find the blowers loud. In the tropics, it's always wet and what is wet will dry very fast too. Also it's something from the past, our shower room is outdoor and built around water well. That's where we take our bath. Our toilet is also outdoor behidn our house. And it's goign to be wet everywhere, and we dont find it a problem. Not like the water is going to freeze. And it's not in the top floor of a 2 storey house with wooden floor.

I've just watched your vid for a minute and half and immediately found a few mistakes 😂
Firstly, the only zebras in Malaysia are in zoos, and I'm pretty sure they don't cross. Those things are better known in Malaysia as pedestrian crossings, and they're strictly for aesthetics only. Whether you're a pedestrian or actually a zebra, we don't use pedestrian crossings. We just cross. We use the power of the hand to stop cars, sure, but they don't work on the footpaths (or sidewalk, if you prefer). The power of the hand only works while you're actually on the road. So, essentially, here are the steps to cross the road in Malaysia:
1. Be on the side of the road where you want to cross. Being on a predetermined crossing area is absolutely optional.
2. Start walking.
3. Put out your hand towards oncoming traffic.
3a. If you see a car accelerating towards you, stop right there in the middle of the lane, stare at the driver, while keeping your hands up. You have to trust in the power of the hand.
4. Continue your journey across the road.

About the blower in the toilet, it's mostly to push out the moist air. Why they don't just make a ceiling blower? They do. But because of the use of bidet, malaysian toilets are always wet and that overhead moisture blower can't keep up. So they have the floor blower to help out with that. Once the floor's wetness becomes atmospheric moisture, it gets mixed with the drier outside air and keeps the floor more or less dry.

People in Malaysia normally would wear jacket like that I think because they want to protect their skin from the sun light (having bright skin is a thing in Malaysia) but at the same time they don't wanna get too hot if they had their whole body covered because they weather in this part of the world could be extremely hot. The whole family on a motorcycle isn't actually unique. Some families just couldn't afford a car. Great video though!
I learned so much about this by just asking the question. It's great, and yes, you provided one of the reasons why people wear the jacket in front. It is sad when families have limited options to transport their family, but nice, when others take care of them while driving.

1. Yeah. The hand works, otherwise, you're invisible to Malaysian drivers.
2. Sad but true. I find most motorcyclist a menace as they often ride dangerously without caring for their lives and the property of others. Not all, but many.
3. Probably to reduce drag resistance. If put on the conventional way, imagine a parachute attached to you
4. Usually in rural areas, you'll find families like these. Maybe due to poor family planning. Having kids without the means to offer them safe upbringing and transportation.
5. Can't deny this fact, especially on the highways. Cars switching lanes dangerously just to get to their destination a minute earlier.
6. I'm guessing probably due to the hit weather. In some countries I've lived in, walking 10km a day is no problem. But even 500m in Malaysia, I will be sweating and overheating.
7. Rice is a staple in most Asian countries. And there are 1kg rice bags at Publika grocery, where you took those pictures!
8. I barely eat at mamak to comment on this. But I think for mixed rice and nasi kandar, the more the merrier.
9. Cold food probably means that it has been out on display for several hours and not fresh. Avoid if you can.
10. My kitchen and bathrooms have hot and cold water outlets. Most of the houses in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur have these features because this town is catered towards expats.
11. Malaysian toilets are known to always be WET. As a Malaysian, I still don't know why. My wife always complains about how public toilets here are disgusting and wet all the time. It's happening all over the country and it's disgusting.

Toilets in Malaysia are wet because after using the toilet, everyone will wash themself and wash the toilet with water, in order to clean both the body and make sure toilet itself is cleaned with water too.
In my experience the bathrooms are typically relatively clean, but just wet.
Honestly, to me I feel like the toilet is more clean if it has been hosed down with water after each use like is typical in Malaysia (especially if it is a sit down toilet), versus what I would often experience in the USA growing up which was often in public bathrooms the sit-down toilets had someone else’s pee splashed on the seat… then you need to either find a different stall that is less dirty to put down toilet paper on the seat so you can use it… either that or go get some paper towels, cover them in soap, clean the public toilet seat yourself…
I feel Public bathroom is often more hygienic in Malaysia because either it is a squat toilet so I am not sitting where someone else sat to urinate (not sitting on anything at all and just wash myself & everything around with water after I am done), or if it is a Western style sit toilet at least someone else’s urine has not been left there, it has been washed off quickly, then I put down toilet paper before sitting for sanitary purposes.
It can be a bit annoying that the bathroom floors are slippery from being wet, but at least our bodies and also the bathroom itself are more clean.

That's really new to me, and I will do this when i use it after I use the toilet. Public toilets were really dirty when I arrived in Malaysia a long time ago and they have improved a lot. Not everywhere but in many places, which is good. There was a time when it was said that Malaysia has the dirtiest toilets in the world, and I think that this is behind us.
And you are right about the toilets in the West. While they look clean, they are not always clean. I never liked the toilets in the US but I am also happy to say that toilets in Germany are, generally, very clean. And get cleaned very often.

Humid, warm weather, bad odour from other vehicles goes to the front body first while riding n if use zipper in front it will be to hot for us. If use unzipped jacket infront of body to reduce hot weather , there will be many superman on the road. So we use jacket that way

Riding the motorbike in the city normally results in a dirty oily shirt. Especially if you're on the road for more than half an hour. The jacket functions to keep one's shirt clean at the end of the ride.
Malaysian weather is consistently hot. Wearing the jacket fully buttoned/zipped is too hot, especially if you are riding under to hot blazing sun. Wearing the jacket backwards and open solves the polluted air and blazing hot sun problem.

proper way to wash dishes is to rinse all the sauces, oil and residue from them under running water. turn off the tap. then start washing. then rinse the soaped dishes one by one, putting another one below the running water before you drain the clean one out away from the sink. that way you will not waste running water. put all cutleries into a bowl or cup (if there are any in the sink) then rinse them together. you'll save a lot of water. also, clean and rinse the plastic ware first (usually separately). they tend to have oil residue even after rinse if the dish drop has been diluted or oily after washing for a while.
however, big scale industrial washing will need different techniques.

I would take the tissues used during eating and try to wipe off the sauces and oils to the best way possible. This way, they won't go into the rivers or elsewhere and keep polluting. Any thoughts about this?
@@asiaminddynamics yes that's what a lot of shops do, if used tissues are abundant on the table. then again, it's not very hygienic come to think about it. there could be phlegm or some other bodily discharges in there. own home maybe it's ok if you can be sure it's only for wiping the lips. most of the time leftovers are brushed into the bin with chopsticks or other used utensils before being put into the sink. most shops have a catchment tray after the sink tho. some even have oil separator installed. they then sell the used oil to biofuel collectors.
using used tissues to wipe off residues is most practical on creamy stuff like cake on plates.

As a Malaysian,i know crossing the street in malaysia Is quite dangerous. Sometimes we have to always be careful when crossing, there might be some cars or motorcycles passing through. I know,this is the bad reality of living in malaysia. And I know it's especially frightening for for foreigners who first came to Malaysia just to find the bad reality here.for me, it really sucks to live here. But at least what we can hope for is to start educating our Malaysian students from primary school.

It takes some getting used to, but became part of my life. And now, it is funny, when I go back to visit Germany, and also wave my hand to stop cars, haha. - The toilets: No excuses there. But we are getting better. 20 years ago the public toilet here is soooo much worse. Ugh, let's not elaborate on that. Let's just agree than as of current, there are still lots of room for improvement. Anyway, on the air blower. No, it's not to drive away the smell outside. Haha. I believe it's to 'dry out' the toilets faster. Due to the humidity here, sometimes toilet floors can remain wet 24/7 (especially if its actively being used), which can lead to badness all around. So this extra assist is needed to let the floor dry out, especially after a round of cleaning.
- On Malaysian traffic, which relate to weaving across the lanes: I haven't made any actual experiment on this, but a lot of time it seems the fast lane is actually the slowest moving lane during heavy traffic. Which is very very frustrating sometimes. And in these situations, when one moves to a seemingly faster-moving lane, the moment one completes the switch, that lane seemed to slow down and the original lane speed up. Even thinking of it makes me feel stressed. haha.
- On the rice: Who cooks rice just enough for a person for one meal? It's madness. haha. If you're using proper size rice cooker (not those mini ones), the minimum amount of rice one cook is usually 2 'cups'. Anything less and you're operating the rice-cooker way below the required specs...i think. So if you're really cooking for one, learn to cook rice manual-style, or use those mini rice-cooker.

We use running water to wash plates with hand because Malaysian has no dish washer. It is optional and a luxurious. We can't afford that.

2:35 The reversed motorcyclist jacket: The jacket is more for protection against the exhaust fumes and rain rather than body protection. The kind of jacket they wear wont protect the skin, but you can avoid from smelling like an exhaust gas. Also for the rain, you will get wet from rain anyway, but wearign it like you'll still be 80 percent dry, good enough. Why not wear it like a sane person? Easy to take off. Why not wear proper ridign jacket? Too expensive and hard to store.

Yes! The car manners is very worst. I saw an old woman crossing the road in Penang. The driver was pressing the petal faster. I got the shock of my life even I am a Malaysian. It was a long time ago, I can still recalled.

Saya setuju tandas malaysia agak berbau dan kotor. Satu lagi basah lecun. lps membuang bukan pandai nk lap demi keselesaan bersama. Kalau nk harap org lap bekas kita sampai bila kita nk selesai.

My family and I was in Kuala Lumpur about three years ago and I almost had a heart attack when the "Grab" driver 's car had no seatbelts whatsoever in his car and he was driving quite fast ,weaving through the traffic.From where I came from, it would be a serious offence! Also,the toilets at the airport,a really weird toilet ,a hole on the concrete floor,had to wait for a proper toilet,I nearly passed out here as well, quite an expereience.You learn as you go along,I guess!!
Haha, thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, traffic is an adventure here, and could be marketedas adventure tourism, right? It takes some getting used to it, but after a while, it becomes normal and quite heartwarming. People here are nice, and relaxed, most of the time. Friendly, respectful and helpful. That's at least my experience.
And I hope that my video can help some tourists get over their shock a bit faster, to feel better more quickly 🤗
It's an offence in Malaysia too. If the driver got stopped, that's easily a few hundred's worth of fines. But our traffic police mostly just patrol for people driving dangerously and are 'VERY lenient towards some offences. I've seen a grandpa who rode a motorcycle without helmet at an intersection being greeted by a traffic police saying, "Uncle, I see you're going bald today." to which that grandpa sheepishly wore his helmet. If you happen to come across something like that again though, it would be best to make a report to grab. Us locals don't normally make such reports. Because you see, we either give 5 stars or 1 star, 5 stars if we're okay with the driver, 1 star if we really hate the driver.

Actually the smallest pack of rice in Malaysia is 1kg which usually are Basmathi rice.
Thank you! I really don't know if this size existed when I arrived, and for sure, I couldn't find it in the places I looked. By now, haha, I am so used to rice that a 1 kg package would be too small :-)

Malaysian drivers are relax driving. If anyone wants to jump queue, we let it be. We are sure there is a reason they need to rush
