This one was so much fun! Huge THANK YOU to Ryan Hall for joining me in this fitness challenge. You can find Ryan on Instagram @RyanHall3. Also, I started another RUclips channel! Sorry but it drives me nuts when you rest in the down position on crunches, just like when you rested between reps on the pushups when you did the Army one.
Loved the way the interview was edited into the duration of the 3-mile. Took the meat of the less interesting part out while still making it feel like I was watching the race. Props to whoever edits these!

I thought he was joking.I thought now Nick would pop up and say "gotha!" he is not Ryan, Ryan is right here, where we would be presented with the Ryan we knew some years ago.
Always cool to see that y'all are friends, I still remember watching both of you as inspiration when I was in HS, now I get to watch you on youtube. What a trip.
@Brian Todd The rule is that your shoulder blades must touch the ground, your elbows must touch your legs, and your arms cant leave your chest. You can get your arms closer to your legs by holding closer to your elbows. Also holding onto someone like the video you posted allows for a lot more explosive crunches, which allows you to do them much faster, than what the guys did in this video.
That was awesome guys! And Ryan Hall! What a transformation!! At age 57 I can't believe I used to be able to run alongside you guys in my youth, lol...nice job!
Ryan was real inspirational for me as a kid growing up running, and he still is. Totally recommend his book "Running for Joy", shows his love for running and his love for Christ in a super cool way. Awesome seeing he's still kicking butt in what he loves to do!
That was great to watch you two battle it out and have fun with it. You guys both take me back to my favorite decade of distance running and I truly appreciate this video, Nick.
fun to watch and a blast from the past. before I got out in 2009, on the scoring chart back then, I managed 20 pullups/100 crunches/18:27 for the run, for 297 loved this vid
Love the video Nick! I'd really love to see this as a $100 group challenge! Highest points gets the $100. Someone who's ripped at 50 years old could beat a 25 year old....
I never though I would be better at something than these guys. They were in their prime when I was in college. I suppose I should be pretty OK at the Marine Corps physical fitness test after 8 years in the Marines. Great job branching out guys!
Even though Ryan is vastly bigger than his marathon guys, he still has a beautiful stride. It feels so odd to see someone his size move like that since I'm used to bigger guys being very clunky runners
I'm a Marine and my last PFT was 271, you guys should do the CFT next, It is an 880yd run, max ammo can lifts in 2 minutes, and a maneuver under fire course. I got a 291 on that one.
I cannot believe the level of base fitness Nick has. As a retired athlete of his caliber obviously he’s going to be in shape, along with his gym shark training he’s been showing us. BUT IT IS ASTONISHING how well he does. Pull-ups have always been my strong suit and yet at an official competition (run gum and all) I only got 29...that and his rounded athleticism. Nick if you see this your mental strength baffles me. I raced my first 5k of the season today and I ran 50 seconds slow on the middle mile...care to share some of that will power?
USMC infantry veteran here. Never ran track. My personal best was a 297 my low was a 292. The run was my Achilles. You guys did great tho for being in your 30’s! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 The most ‘fun exercising’ IMO, is a paddle sport called Pickleball. The oldest woman in our community is 90 years old, so it’s something you can do for ‘fun exercise’ at any age!
The scoring chart must have changed. I went into the Marines in 2008-2013 and it was 20pullups, 100crunches and 18:00 3mile for a perfect score! And it was less than that depending on how old you were . Y’all did GREAT!!!
You have to be really dedicated to be able to do a lot of pullups. You have to do them every day basically, and work on negatives and isometrics to build up the specific musculature you need.
Awesome video. I go the Big Bear High School and run cross country and track, so Ryan Hall is a super hero to me. Really cool to see him in one of your videos :)
Have you ever considered creating your own competition? Like some sort of distance race every year and donate the proceeds to charity? Since you love the competition! Love the videos my man 🏴
My best is 11 pull ups, 122 crunches, and an 18:04 run time that I ran in boot camp, my score is slightly lower than Ryan's and is only that high because the crunches and run time carried my score.
Amazing to see how a really athletic, physically lean person can turn into a heavy, cumbersome bulked-up beast. I mean, sure, it’s his body and he can do whatever he wants. But still!
You should try the USMC CFT next. It's done in boots and trousers. It's an 800 meter run, 2 minutes of 30 lbs ammo can lifts, and the "maneuver under fire" which is a shuttle run involving crawling, carrying a buddy, and a few other things. It sucks.
The more pft's you do, the more you learn to cut corners. Lift your chin up on pull ups to get your chin barely above the bar, repeat, extend your elbows on crunches, etc
Lol I wish I could've cued you in Nick, the way to tackle the sit-ups in military fitness tests as a runner is put it all in the quad muscles. Those sit-ups are hard! And I could never score max points until I learned how to squeeze my legs
If you're browsing the comment section, I'd high key suggest trying that trial pack of run gum! When I ordered I got to try it out and got one of those head bands which was sick! Still subscribed to receiving a monthly box and would recommend it to anyone (and already have to some friends on my cross country team)

I think u were going a lot farther than you need to for crunches, those looked more like sit-ups
Was thinking the same lol
In reality he also when a lot higher for pull ups as well. He just needed chin above the bar but he pulled up to his chest.
Brian Todd watched the vid u sent and it looked like Ryan did that but Nick seemed to go farther but maybe I’m wrong
Brian Todd also kipping isn’t allowed either

Yeah one will turn into two then three and so on. Every little thing will help when it comes to pull ups. You got it
