"I'm honored to have had one of my songs recorded by Ms Etta James. She recorded 'I Sing The Blues' (Earl Thomas - Philip C Wootton/Conton Music-Third Story Music-BMI) in 1994 on her 'Right Time' cd. She called me on the phone one afternoon and told me that she liked my song and my singing style. At that point in my career, I didn't even know I had a style but she liked it just the same and said to me, and I quote, 'With a voice like that you outta be singing one of my songs!' So I chose 'Rather Go Blind' and I sincerely hope she appreciates my version of it as much as I appreciate her version of my song! RIP lovely lady. And thank you. Earl thomas sings etta james sang clarence carter... that's what the title should read. For those of you who don't know clarence carter did many of the first versions that etta james covered. For example tell mama/daddy
