Definitely would like to see more of these videos. It is amazing just how much hard work goes into building these rides. I don't think people appreciate just how much needs doing.
Love this! I am from Lancashire Thornton-Cleveleys. I'm nearly 50 now but "Shaws" and "Silcocks" Have always come to us. Fabulous memories in the 80s for me! Still love it now 😆🤣

Spent 5 years of my life travelling with rembelances waltzer, greatest time of my life without a doubt.
Never winched cars out, just lifted them out by hand and the girders also.

I'm from a small town in Iowa and me and my brother absolutely loved watching ride builds at our Corn Festival every year... !!!
We ended up being Musicians which basically involved setup , teardown and a show... my brother eventually had a mini donut stand on midways. .

Hopefully when people watch vlogs like this it will spurn them on to support there local funfairs.
brill what a refreshing take on things before the fair starts and with it being up early people will know to visit, pull downs are great watched hull fair one last year amazing

I used to work at a swedish traveling funfair, going around scandinavia. I can tell you, it's a tough job! Some of the hardest work I've done in my life, but really fun and rewarding - except the money-part. Pays shit.

In the eighties a group of us friends would help set the travelling fairs up. I used to help put the Waltzers and the Octopus up. We all got unlimited fair rides for helping. The Octopus was the same type of Carters one. I feel old now. Good video Dave.

Excellent footage Dave do enjoy a pull on and build up. I was watching the Silcocks lads building the freak out up the other week took them 2 hrs just to level the machine out.

Some interesting footage in this video, especially the behind the scenes Ghost Train walkthrough, which is fascinating to see being a more traditional design, rather than the Roller Ghoster type, so almost everything has to be placed or built. Hopefully, videos like this will help the average person that visits a fair get to appreciate the clever design and engineering that allows most rides these days to fold up on a trailer, but also the massive amount of work involved behind the scenes building up & pulling down the rides for us to enjoy.

Love this video slothys, shows how the lads and the showmen build up the rides, very hard work! but very rewarding and fun. I've had a go myself about 20 years ago. Parts are heavy and awkward to shift, we built up a maxwell speedway, I miss that ride. All that work has to be done in a day or so, older wooden flat rides take longer to build up, modern metal flat rides pull out (most with hydraulic rams) and fold up and only need a few bits bolted together. Most twist cars are made up of 2 bits I believe, the seat and the front section and bars are bolted together to save space on the lorries in transit. That hotel of terror truck is an ERF "E Series", most showmen used ERF and Foden lorries. I miss the smell and sound of the Gardner engines on the fair that powered the rides. Would love to see more build up videos, hopefully a better season for the showmen in 2021
I have done a few build up's and pull downs with A&R, it's true what you said that a lot of people don't realise the hard work that goes into building the rides up, great fun tho, just subscribed to your channel :-)

about 3 years ago I when to the Carters Steam fair while they were setting up, little that I knew that one of the workers was one of my dad's mates and boy what a great day out for me!
I imagine being a kid getting to hang out there must be unbelievably cool

Slothy, just found your channel a few days ago after discovering your friend's channel (UK Theme Parks). I love your content but this build up video is one of the most interesting. I used to visit carnivals as they were being set up and more times then not, the staff would get irritated that someone was watching and photographing them. You seem to get on much better with the staff which is really priceless. I really liked the ghost train walk through. Years ago I was friendly with a traveling ghost train operator and I got to walk though it and trouble shoot miss-firing tricks which was really fun. I'm also really impressed with how you have a whole crew of impressive friends who love carnivals as much as you do. In America no one cares about carnivals in this way and you won't find another person who likes them this much. A big problem with the USA is that its so spread out, in the UK everything is compact so traveling and meeting like minded people is likely far easier.

I used to do all that a few year's back done it for Jame's Roger's & Jame's Miller's For Funderworld Also Burt Holland & Few Other's used to build all the big ride's so know how that feel's as soon as the fair shut's the pull down start's in all weather as need to get to the next location :)
Pulled downs alot quicker but still hard i know ive help pull down the waltzer when i was in my 20's fair mad then now im quite happy watching your vlogs as dont have the stomach any more😭
They work hard fair people in all kinds of weather. The ghost train was interesting to see during the day. I got a behind the scenes tour of alien wars years ago.

The twister has been built by PWS rides the sizzler has been built by wisdom ride and the scrambler has been built by Eli bridge

I have just come back from a weekend In Chiswick. Working then Pulling Down the Waltzer, Dodgems, Twister, Inflatables Twice the Size Of this one. And there was only 6 of Us. And I am 61 In 2019.

You should ask them about the history etc... origin of the rides, and stats for the rides...etc It is definitely interesting seeing a couple of guys put a roller coaster together by hand! Seems all a lot of hard work... How many locations do they do a year etc? How many in their whole crew etc...

the show I worked for the owner was a great man and boss I wish I could have worked longer for him we became good friends in a professional standpoint

I once helped build the ark that belongs to Terry Storey and I was never paid for the few days of hard graft and I’m not blaming the owners for that!, respect to the lads who are building the fair, just don’t fall for the trick that I did. It wasn’t fun and it definitely wasn’t fair but I still got taken for a ride? I think that you have got a good hobby but it’s not as good as the row of hobbies that are behind the rides, top showmen always have a good white and blue hobby to live in

This is a awsome blog, i have always wanted to see a fair been built, hats of to the guys that but there hard-working into building them rides, it would be great if you could get some footage of the ride operating system, i. E the cabin to show us how they can adjust the ride cycles, also if you could get the operator to show you and a small interview on how they decide what cycle to run, i got told that after a certain time at night they speed up the cycles, do you know if that is fact, also i got told that on the walsers, if you pull down the bar, it lifts a brake, so you get more spin, mybe on opening day you could ask some questions for us fair enthusiasts😁 and how do they learn to put tge rides together, bet they don't cone with instructions lol do you know how much the rides cost to buy? , great blogs always look forward to your blogs to start my day, keep up the good work 👍
