Oh man, I love the end to this horrid storyline! Leanne and Dennis are honestly my favorite "couple", Denis is so sweetly devoted to her! And finally Doug came out to his parents. Relieved this storyline is over though.
I'm so sad to see all the hatred towards Ste and Doug. They are a sweet couple going through real problems. Even though it was disguised as a fake wedding plot, it was really about acceptance. How hard it is for children to break out of their 'roles', and to break out with their own identity. Not being accepted by your own family is torture. And more than just a 'gay' problem. Ste stood up for Doug as a good person. That was an important story to tell. It's not all about the sex people!
I really hope this episode is the last we EVER see of Doug's parents. I hope our Doug stays on Hollyoaks forever - him , Ste , Brendan , Cheryl , and Joel are the ones I hope never get killed off or leave the show.
I'm not sure about doug's dad, I think we have to remember we're see doug's and his dad relationship at it best,from everything doug said it looks like this is the most attention he have ever gotten from his parents,and found the conversation between doug and his dad strange for a different reason, it almost sounded like he knew what was going on between doug and ste but telling him it was best he end it now and married his girlfriend.
yea i think they are just hurt at the moment especially his mom given she really wanted a grandchild. it was about the money at first but it change after Doug really wanted it more to make them happy.
So, Ste pushes Doug into coming out, take 2. Only this time it felt more like Doug's decision. I'm glad the conclusion was sweet with Doug's declaration of love for Ste, and Dennis and Leanne getting married, except don't you have to get a marriage license first? Call it anticlimactic, but the blowup with Doug's parents I thought was *mercifully* understated. The more the writers torture Ste & Doug the more I like them and hate the writers. Bravo to all the actors. Well done!
Spoiler Alert: They do get married when she is on her death bed:(. never cared for the characters but damn was it the most emotional wedding i ever seen.
Why feel sad for Leanne? She gorged on the attention for seemingly centuries, quite insensitively at Doug & Ste's emotional expense and in the end got married to someone who loves her.
Just because Doug's dad didn't have a problem with Ste being gay doesn't mean he doesn't have a problem with Doug being gay. And just because he says he's upset about the lies about Leanne and the baby and the scam for $20,000 doesn't mean he's not also upset that his son is gay. I think it's just as likely that Doug's dad is the sort of homophobe who prides himself on not being a homophobe, but don't let it hit too close to home.
I don't think it was ever about the money for Doug, first it was about pleasing Ste then he was it as a win win situation he could be with Ste and stay in the closet, Ste eventually realized this that was why he no longer liked the plan.

ok lets face facts here.In my soap magizine it says doug has to make a life changing decision with his and ste and brendans passed. I think brendan will die or be badly hurt in the explosion in hollyoaks later ste will feel sad and be upset and if brendan dies (which i think he will) so ste goes to the funeral and doug has to accept that or leave
if doug gets mad over an eventual brendan's funeral then he's really selfish, immature and insensitive. regardless the fact that ste may or may not still love brendan he would go to the funeral to support his friend cheryl. so I would find stupid if doug's in strop because of that. anyway he won't die imo
I stopped watching Hollyoaks ages ago (I can't be dealing with all the drama they put in around gay couples on soaps) and I see this video pop up about a wedding? I am so confused.
Awww-even though I'll always be Team Stendan, I'm glad the way things worked out. Thought it was a stupid storyline that made no sense, so it's over. I'm not invested Stug & don't really find them interesting, so it will be interesting to see if they get any storyline (non-Silas, LOL) or become the background-like the ugly sofa.. Hope they find a cute, interesting Guy for Brendan, so we have some real excitement., instead of stupid drug stuff-his personal life. Dennis & Leanne-so sweet.
