What a nice speech. People don’t talk about youth mental health and lifestyle enough. People don’t let people do what they want in high school, it’s either fit in the mold or get bullied for your interests.
Whenever I feel depressed or overthink I came here to listen to this masterpiece, It literally gives me hope... I just wanted to thank Rm and other BTS members like how they saved my life and me...They really helped me, Watching them being motivated gives me motivation..Hoping to see them one day and wanted tell them how they saved me.
*RM has officially wrecked my bias.* In all seriousness, I've never been one to suddenly change my perspective or feel differently about myself because an artist or group that I like made a heartfelt speech or said to in lyrics. I've been an army since FIRE came out and I just feel so moved by this. Their efforts to reach out to all of us out here struggling really resonates within me. It's not just a common theme in their songs; they made a whole album, collaboration with UNICEF, and use their platform whenever they can (by the way, for those who don't know, RM stands for Real Me). I was watching the light slowly fade from around me but I think I might just chase it. I think I might just try hearing my voice again. Thank you, BTS. Thanks everyone for reading this far.

Imagine a 24 year old boy making a speech of 99.9% 50 year old men in the entire universe... What a blessed man he is. His parents must be so proud of him. I am too
OMG! One of the greatest speeches I've heard!! BTS group is not just a k-pop boy band, BTS without a doubt is a phenomenal group that changes our lives . The world needs more BTS.
This becomes even more profound realizing that out of all the BTS members, RM has received the most backlash. He has always been sensitive for the comments discrediting his looks, his worth, his importance to the group as a whole. To see that he, and the members as a whole, have come so far not only as musicians and artists but as people who have come to peace with who they are is just truly inspiring. Namjoon, your words are inspiring and captivating, and I pray BTS will always continue to grow and receive love and support.
The people who judge his looks...are just plain jealous....NAMJOON IN THE CUTEST THING EVER (this is coming from a non RM bias) NAMJOON BAIS WRECKS ME EVERY SECOND
I'm speaking not as a fan, but as a youth of today's generation and his words hit me. What is my name now? And what does excites me? In all of my 20 years of life, I've come realize that the things that made me happy, are things that actually what people made me think it would. They say get good grades and you'll be happy, they say study in engineering and you'll be happy, they say don't do this but do that, THEN you'll be happy... I've listened to these voices and it only took me recently to realize that this is not my calling nor did it really made me happy. I was not happy taking the risks and failed, I was not happy when I got a good grade because I kept remembering the hardship rather than the final result... Now I realize, my passion and my life is still out there, waiting for me to find it and to start it soon. Thank you for asking those questions, RM. I will find my name, and I will speak for myself. And maybe one day... One day when I'm sure of what I am and found the me that I love and embraced, I will speak how your name, helped me find mine. Thank you, BTS. For now, my name is Eva Grace, I'm a 20 years old girl, who's from Southeast Asia and is just struggling to understand life. But I am me, and I will find my own voice soon.
@@myyuhhhe7543 ❤❤ I'm currently thinking about quitting from my course now and pursuing something that's uncommon in my family... It's scary but I'm really thinking about it. This speech really made me think about the path my life is taking so I would say that it could be a big turning point in my life 😂
Wtf this is me!! I cried for hours because of this realization. Im also an engineering graduate, currently preparing for my board exam. I am devastated because after 5 years in engineering school, Im still not happy with my life because this is what my parents want. I really dont like engineering but I still took it even if it means sacrificing my time and youth for the things that will make me excited everyday. Their lyrics are really powerful. Never heard from any American or Filipino artists. Their music feels like a friend that heals my inner pain. I love them so much. I cant even~
Kim Nam Joon... He is not just an idol or an artist. He is Art himself. 🙏 This speech attracted me towards him and his group, now their music has changed my life for better. I am a new strong person because of them. ❤
i can vote for them ...although i hate bts but i think that gay people should also have equal rights ....i like how UN invited a gay band's leader named RAP MONSTER (😩although he has a weird name😩) to give a speech
Yeah uhm, they arent gay. Just letting you know. RM, the leader, supports the LGBT (sorry if its called something else) community, but he or any of the other members are not gay.
I don’t follow BTS.. heard them a few times and what not. This video randomly (I suspect not) appeared on my feed and at first I thought “this might be ridiculous..” well, I just finished the video and was impressed. I didn’t realize how much they mean to this younger generation. My hats off to them. Voting for BTS for world president!
*“No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, your gender identity, just speak yourself. Find your name and find your voice by speaking yourself.”* -Kim Namjoon, 2018
The speech is the most beautiful speech I had ever heard. Did RM wrote it himself? If he did..well done..WOW.. I am an English major so I know a beautiful speech when I see one, his words was careful, delicate yet strong to the point. And he deliver it with PERFECT intonation and emotion..even the pronunciation was PERFEC....So proud, so proud of you Namjoon RM... BTS rule !!! LOVE YOU BTS !!!
I’m pretty sure he did. He may have gotten it professionally translated to English but the original Korean words are so similar to the songs he has written like Reflection, Always, Adrift and pretty much the entirety of mono. The style is also very similar to his fan cafe letters: tender, moving, empathetic, understanding and hopeful all at once.
All the members shared what they wanted to address in the speech with the staff who later curated the whole points into an English speech...it was in a bangtan bomb video..
I showed this to my teacher because we were going to do speeches. After watching it, he said that "That was a really good speech! The message was really good, and he's a very powerful speaker and really convincing." and I was so happy afterwards fhgjshgjdhgdfhdfjfhd also he asked who Namjoon was, so I told my teacher and he complimented him (Namjoon) again.
I was a drug addict and lost everything in my life. I was randomly introduced to BTS at the start of Love Yourself series and the messages from your albums have helped me push through to get my life back on track. Maybe it's coincidence, maybe there was a reason, but for the first time in my life, I understand what it means to love myself. I have my family back, high on life, and a big part of it is because of BTS. Thank you.
I'm a 44 year old brazilian female teacher. In october 2013, i got to know BTS and they inspired me! Since them, i've been a dedicated fan and never regreted. I just get more and more proud of the young men and artists they are coming to be. I'm so grateful and I wish all my teenage students saw those sweet talented men as role models.
We had to watch this in my History class, and they had a girl crying :( the teacher asked her why, and she said "I don't know who this man is, but his words reached my heart, and I feel like it's beating just a little stronger than before"
Your speech hits directly to my heart.. I was worried that wht people think of me but after listening to this speech I came to love myself . I remembered that let your inner voice should not be be trapped by moulds of other people . This life is too short, live it for yourself and not for others . I will improve myself everyday to my best. I am Harshil Gandhi an ordinary boy from a Mumbai City in India
its honestly incomprehensible how much responsibility bts has. this is above fanwars; hell, it's above the pop industry altogether. namjoon's speaking at the united nations, a conference most people could only dream of attending, let alone speaking at. i have no words. it must be so hard, but... i am so glad they're them, and that they have this power. we deserve to have people as accepting and passionate as they are to be the voice for our generation, and i'm so glad they are up to the challenge of taking it. they are truly changing the world, and i'm glad i'm here to see them do it.
its so comforting to see him bloom and accept himself after struggling to find his identity and it makes me want to do that for myself too. he genuinely makes me want to be a better person.
He was so nervous but oh my God he was so AMAZING. Just imagine having to speak in front of the entire world trying to convey a message as beautiful as that and doing it on a language that isn’t even your first language. Namjoon is truly so inspiring, so courageous, so gifted, so humble, so kind, and just an amazing role model for youth not only in Korea but all over the world. I am so happy to exist at the same time as Kim Namjoon.
"And maybe I made a mistake yesterday. Yesterday's me is still me. Today, I am who I am with all of my faults and my mistakes. Tomorrow, I might be a tiny bit wiser and that'd be me too. so proud of them for going beyond the K-POP images and carry out positive messages to the youth in the world....in order to love others and treat other right, we have to learn to love our self and treat our self right
Team Champion I saw on Twitter about what you mentioned on here but it’s not BTS who’s doing this. Keep sending the messages to BigHit directly on Twitter so they understand the severity of what their staffs are doing. Making remarks like this doesn’t help send a message you want to achieve. BigHit need to retrain their staffs again. The securities are like the third party they hired at every venues/concerts they booked I think. Maybe these particular staffs they hired there screwed up big time. Report it to BigHit and keep complaining directly to them.
Every time I’m feeling down, every time I cry because I can’t with the problems in my life… I return here. To me safe place. Because this speech gives me the courage I need to embrace myself and continue. Every single time. So thank you so much Kim Namjoon, and thank you bts. For never giving up upon the dark moments… Your words really shine my path in my darkest moments.
I listen to this speech every morning and night, each time I watch it, it gets better and better. This speech has changed my aspects on life in all thanks to Namjoon.
Namjoon admitted later he was so nervous that his hand holding the paper kept shaking, but you can't even tell. I'm so proud of him, he wrote everything himself and represented us Asians so well on a global stage. And he's so articulate, humble and classy for only being 24 yrs old, displaying more grace and knowledge than many politicians in the world today.
He is the best man !!! Never have I ever heard such a powerful speech with so much convection. RM has no idea he is inspiring so many people with just his words. You are amazing NAMJOON !!!
Bro I felt like he was talking to me. Like when he was saying “What’s your name? Speak yourself..” I got emotional as heck. I have depression and anxiety and when I have a bad day I swear I put in BTS right away and I feel more calm and happy
I just recently made the decision to go off my antidepressants (with my doctor's help) after 7 years, and it's been a really hard first month. But I tell you what, I swear listening to BTS and diving into their message of loving yourself, is what has gotten me through this difficult time. I love them so much! 💜💜💜
RM is such a very good speaker . The BTS group were the pioneer of the KPOP world. The BTS was the bridge for all the Korean artists to be loved and admired by millions of followers worldwide and the rest is history .💜💜💜💜💜
he said he watched them all with korean subtitles then english subtitles then no subtitles so try that choose a few kdramas that your willing to rewatch over and over-preferably one that has a lot of day to day stuff. then try to notice the linking of words and actions/gestures e.g they keep saying hjkhikasda whenever they receive stuff maybe that means thank you or you notice that a particular word comes up whenever they point at/offer a certain food or whatever maybe that word means that object etc.
okok this speech is really well done... every time I thought he was going off topic he tied it back in to their message and it just made the whole speech so interesting and I genuinely wanted to hear the next parts... Kim Namjoon is SUCH an inspiration and IM SO PROUD OF ALL OF BTS
people upset that RM was speaking about himself lmaoo yet that was the WHOLE POINT OF HIS SPEECH was to SPEAK YOURSELF, he spoke about himself and his thoughts, and then urged us to SPEAK OURSELVES so we can share our voice too, he was setting an example and encouraging the youth that we can do the same...
I sent this link to my 11 year old daughter to hear. You have to understand that for a 24 year old to deliver this message before the UN is incredible. But he believed in his message, and that's the energy he took before the leaders of the world.
No one would guess this from : The boy who was once called 'poison mushroom' for being too naughty. The rebellious teen who decided to be a rapper even though he was one of the top student in South Korea. The son whose Mother broke his computer & mic because he didn't want to concentrate on his study. The young rapper who was told he was a sell out for being an Idol. The young man who was once told to leave BTS because haters says he was ugly. The young performer who had a sudden breakdown that he had to cancel his performance & disrupt their concert. Now he stands tall & proud. Among his brothers. Among other leaders. Maybe a little scared, still as passionate and a tiny bit wiser.
But he is not ugly at all. He doesn't have a classical look but he is very charming and endearing. I think his looks are charming too. I love looking at him and admiring him. I think when I get back to sketching he is one on my to-do list to draw.
For those who are doubtful about RM 's capabilities as a writer well he is considered a lyrical genius in Seoul. He haa an IQ of 148, considered a literal genius. He is one of the top 1.3% students in South Korea, having scored a whooping 900 at the Korean preparatory for University(country known to have one of the highest standard in education system) . RM's interests include philosophy and enjoys writing prose and poetry.
my results are within the top 3% of my country and I don't think only educational qualities prove someone genius, just good at studies . I'm just saying your perception is wrong ,not denying that rm is a person of high intelect and wisdom.
@열재 The girlgroup was Glam which was formerly in BigHit agency. Kim Namjoon wrote the lyrics for their song Party and it is about supporting LGBT community.
I don't care where you are from, the color of your skin, your sexual orientation, rich or poor, you can relate to Namjoon's speech. He is talking of dreams, equality, making the right choices, being a decent human being and giving everyone a place to have a voice. So proud of Namjoon and BTS but even if you aren't a fan, you can still respect him for his conviction. I am proud of them for ushering hope and change.
Will Speak Yourself gonna be their new Theme?I would surely support it.A lot of people are oppressed by so many negative elements and Speaking up is the Answer for it.
Johnny Yes, you were definitely here when the speech was written so you probably know who wrote the speech right? I don' t know why it's hard to believe an artist can't write their own speech. They're SINGERS. They work with words all the time
Namjoon always speaks from the heart & always has something inspirational to say. It’s easy to make up something & make it out to help others or aspire others but to mean it is hard yet he always manages to do that. He was so nervous for this but hit this out of the park.
BTS is so inspiring. This is why they are so popular, not because they are just good looking, not only because of their musical abilities. But also because they encourage everyone to love themselves and that’s why they are standing up there. They deserve it, they deserve everything good coming their way
I was 13 when I first discovered them and their music in 2015. I was plagued by the fact that I didn’t know why I functioned the way I did and why everyone thought I was weird and avoided being with me. I knew there was something different about me, and it made me worry a lot about the way other people percieved me. Around the age of 10 I started developing depression because of my differences, and at age 14 I was diagnosed with asperger’s syndrome. It was extremely hard for me to cope with the fact that I could never be like my peers. My depression got worse and my anxiety made me stop talking and made me self-conscious to the point where I could’t walk around school alone because I thought that everyone would judge the way I walked, was. I managed to develope an eating disorder which I’m yet to recover from, I was diagnosed with OCD and I started hurting myself in various ways, I wasn’t allowed to go full days in school anymore and my social life went downhill. Through all of these bad experiences I kept myself from completely destroying everything by watching and listening to BTS. They helped me to pick myself up after bad experiences and inspired me to keep on going. I’m still a long way to go before I’m completely recovered from my illnesses, but I’m relieved to know that I’ll still have some company through this long journey of recovery. BTS are my inspirations and role models and I don’t know what would have happened to me if I never found out about them.

You can feel his nervousness, and it's quite touching to hear him fight those nerves and speak these words, not in his native language. He handled it with a lot of maturity. I admire the responsibility and respect these boys have shown!
This is more than just about their music....this is a voice of a generation. BTS makes me proud in ways that I will never be able to fully describe in words. As for this man called Kim Namjoon aka RM, he has one of the most beautiful minds ever...he has a way with his words. The future holds great things for BTS...I hope I will be alive to see every single one of them.

In all seriousness, I've never been one to suddenly change my perspective or feel differently about myself because an artist or group that I like made a heartfelt speech or said to in lyrics.

He did write it himself. They showed him practicing until he got to America.

I saw on Twitter about what you mentioned on here but it’s not BTS who’s doing this.

No one would guess this from :
The boy who was once called 'poison mushroom' for being too naughty.
