its awesome .. thanks a lot.. is there any way to attach an object between 2 edges of another object while the latter is in motion, just like rivet system in maya.. please help
Hi PXOL DA, Sorry to hear you are having trouble accessing our free Houdini Core Essentials course. We've just tested both the registration and the course access for logged in users and it seems to be working fine now. This is the link to register for it if you'd like to give it another go: www.hipflask.how/houdini-core-essentials-registration If you're still having trouble, just drop us a line at support@hipflask.how and we'll help you get up and running.
Hi Mike, the match transform buttons might be what you're looking for. We have a video on them here: ruclips.net/video/awWW4KU7rSs/видео.html You can take this full course for free at www.hipflask.how where we cover many more snapping, alignment and transforming techniques in Houdini. Hope this helps!
Hi Carlos, the align state and orientation picking tool works in exactly the same way at the geometry level. Use it in combination with a transform, edit, or primitive generator node to snap and align whole pieces of geometry or selected components.
@@ripvangu Yes, use the axis handles in combination with snapping. We have a number of videos that cover snapping in case you're not already familiar with it.
@@hipflask4921 kindly share a link, just to be clear, currently if i press the semicolon,i enter orientation picking mode,if i then press ctrl and click to a point,my handle is moved to that point,in xyz,i would want an option where it can be moved only in one axis, for example if i want three objects on a straight line,id want them to be alighned in the x axis, but not have their z axis affected, (otherwise instead of being in a line, they would be on top of each other)
@@ripvangu The orientation picking tool doesn't allow you to constrain the movement to a single axis. You would need to use a more traditional snapping technique which would be common to most 3D apps. The process in houdini would be something like this: Enable Point Snapping. Tap the ' key to detach the handle. Snap the handle to the extent of the object that you want to move in a specific axis. Tap the ' key to reattach the handle, Drag on an axis handle to move the object and drag over the point of the object that you want to snap to. These are easily overlooked functions that can be huge time-savers. Thanks for sharing it, its well explained and very helpful.
Oh man, have I looked for something like this. Thanks for this tip. ; is now my friend.
Thank you! Great tut! Coming from modo, I'm right at home with this, and after having learned this works on the sop level, I'm excited!
Thanks dude, awesome tutorial!
I really needed this!, thank you.
Having a pivot and a handle is confusing me...(maya user learning h), but your tutorials are really great! thanks!

@@hipflask4921 Thank you for the reply. I definitely try again. Thank you for making this course free.
Thx :)
Gotta rebind ; hotkey to something easier.
I wish we could do that procedurally (we can using custom solution but I mean a true toolset from SideFX)
Houdini somehow manages to over complicate even the most simple of actions.

How align one object to other? not point or components
