Hi and thank you very much for doing this video! I am another vintage trailer owner looking to see how to replace a broken arm on a Hehr jalousie window. This helped a lot. I am glad you showed how to do this with hand tools and not a compressor to a rivet gun.
@@burkefranklin1 Hi Burke, Thanks! Do you ever have any problem with extracting the plastic spacer that you used when re-riveting? Does it ever get stuck?
Thank you so much for making this video! Very informational and clear. I am replacing some jalousie window holders for my 1969 Aristrocrat camper. I found a good supply company for the rivets and rivet clincher - Vintage Trailer Supply located in Santa Fe. Again appreciate you making this video!
Thanks for the question. I think I will do a short video but for now... I start out with wd40 and grade 000 or 0000 steel wool depending on how bad it is. That alone will do a great job. Then Clean all the wd40 off once it looks good and rub on with a cotton cloth Mother’s mag & aluminum polish. Rub until the cloth turns black and then polish with a clean cotton rag/towel. I suggest no high speed tools, just arm power! Good luck
Hey Franklin, big question if you can hold (or anyone else here). I have an issue with these windows closing unevenly. I have a set of Hehr 1626 windows that I pulled off my camper shell, sanded, polished, replaced all the gaskets. They look sweet! When cranked (light, but firm) to close the window entirely, the side opposite from the gear has a 1/4" gap from touching the lower seal. I had toyed with adjustments (shims) with no luck.. When relieved of any pressure on the seal (open the window slightly) there is a 1/16" difference; the glass on the side with the gear is 1/16" lower than the other side. Inspected each side for warping, thinking maybe someone really cranked on the thing one night bending the glass holders.. No sign of being misshapen really, i.e, no kinks or warping. It's really bothersome as I am building this camper shell to be liveable, with limited insulation (limited space), having this 1/4" gap between 6 28" different panels ads up to about 1 1/2 ft² of open space. Any advice?
Hey Blake, a few questions before I try and answer. Are the pieces original and matching? What are you using for the pads between the windows and window clamps? Lastly, it sounds like you have the same issue with all windows? Thanks, Burke
@@burkefranklin1 Thanks for the response! 1.) Everything looks to be original. 2.) The pads (shims?) are the little circle discs by vintage trailer gaskets. Part #0114MA for Hehr 1626 jalousie windows. I can confirm from the handful of original shims installed in the window, they are virtually the same and are the correct width. 3.) Yes! I'm hoping this isn't a manufacturing error of some sort. The issue is identical on both window frames. I have attempted to close the window after removing all but one glass piece and each one will not allow the window to shut evenly.

Hey Rod, I am glad the video helped. I love videos that are done for the average person… enjoy that trailer and good luck with your project👍

I did not have that problem.

Thanks for the comment and glad it helped. Good luck with your fun project!!
Great video. Thank you! Exactly what I needed
What did you use to polish the frames? I heard mothers products, anything specific, and tools?
