Outstanding information Ben. I think you have talked me into the proof Mercury set for my next adventure. My bank account will thank you when it’s over.
I’ve got the bell clicked (and have for years now) and RUclips NEVER gives me any notifications. Love all your videos, Ben. Good luck in Long Beach. Hoping there will be a live evening video from the show/hotel.
A little bit more variety with the thumbnails for the vids. It's just sometimes I think it's the same vid over and over. PS: the breadth of topics covered and the nuanced take on every one of the topics touched upon make this the sort of really good episode that im glad I didnt assume I already saw. Great stuff, Ben. Keep em coming, and thank you!
I always put my slabs in little baggies that are sized to fit them to try to prevent scratching. I also don't play with my coins to roughly. I just take them out every once in a while to look at them. 😊
I like those Franklin halves (mint state) you had the other day. I like the proofs best but I noticed a mint state that was very nice and very reasonably priced. Your presentation also was 100 percent excellent
Oh, I love that question... what would you recommend for $300 So, here's what I would want to know... what coins would you give as gifts to non collectors or beginning collectors? And you can't use birth year cuz I'm already hunting for those! Also, around $100 budget! Have a great holiday weekend 🦉
To me personally it wouldn't matter much if there were circulating 'modern' comemoratives because undoubtably they would then be struck on clad or cupronickle planchets, so essentially just another Sacajawea/state quarter type issue. Perhaps some new interesting designs, but no precious metals content. Even if 40% silver was feasable/tried, I think they would just be hoarded and not really circulated. The economics wont allow for it. It was an idea that had it's place at a particular point in time. I think that ship has sailed sadly.
To elaborate further on Ben’s response to the uncirculated question: If someone is being a massive stickler over that term “uncirculated” then almost no business strike coins would be Unc and moreover there would be no way of knowing if a coin from 200 years ago got spent on one loaf of bread and then never again. It becomes a pointless and moreover impossible distinction. Additionally many many unc morgans are referred to as “two beer dollars” (if I remember the phrase correctly.) because they circulated very briefly, often for only a day or so, got spent on 2 beers, and then ended up right back at the bank never to be used again. They’re still near perfect, bright unc coins, even though they technically “circulated” for a day or two
The Orient was also packed solid with counterfeits and still is. I won't even buy tea from China anymore. Besides, Orange and Lemon Pekoes originated in Taiwan and they still have the best.
Hey just a fyi Ben ngc will cross anacs coins just have to sign a wavier so they can crack it out of it makes grade or they send it back in holder you still get charged tho
Hey Ben! You are my new most favorite RUclips coin channel! You were number two for a long time but I cancelled the other one because he was kinda rude and disrespectful to me!
I love the state quarters, I still reference the Old Man of the Mountain with a touch of melancholy. I get the point about the unrealistic nature of coin denominators but a Gold Buffalo has a $50 face value. Even a 1964 Kennedy half is 50 cents. No one is selling those at face value. You overlook the ridiculous coin values with a lot of coin collecting.
modern commemoratives are a waste of the mint's time. they could produce a lot of better coins if they truly wanted to. congress should kill the program and let the mint and their council provide better recommendations. these coins are bullion. I see no numismatic long-term value.
Where is the Orient ? Is it somewhat close to where the Asians live; where the day dawns and the Sun rises ? Ben, “The Coin Geek”🤓 seems rather young to use such an anachronistic term which fell out of favor more than six decades ago. 🤔 😲😳😬 🤣😂🤣
TheCoinGeek, I subscribed because your videos are super cool!

Hi Ben, happy memorial day as we honor the fallen they sacrifice their life for our freedom God bless America.
Good listen as always, thanks Ben.

Really looking forward to your reporting at the east coast show!

HI Ben, have a great Memorial Day everyone.
Hi Ben. When will we start seeing the OPC Owl Stickers?

Would absolutely buy one.

They exchanged silver dollars in the Orient for opium also.
Hi Ben, just subscribed to your channel today. Your content is interesting and you put out great information for beginners

Thanks Ben, love the insight. Where the heck can I get one of those coin geek shirts ?
I’d like to see you take your loupe to some modern bullion, specifically Pressburg & Germania mints.
I feel a double crossover video coming: ANACS to PCGS to CACG. Video title: How To Succeed In Crossovers Without Really Trying.

Morgan dollars are currently too overpriced caused by the mint's issue of Morgan dollar commemoratives.
I was in the shop and one wall had coins in flips that looked like a silent auction.
Can you touch on that a little?
Looked like a local club thing.
They have products to make foggy headlights crystal clear. Don't they?
Can't find the "Itzabelle" anywhere!

I cracked out a black PCGS 1826 XF45 50C. I conserved it with EZest, sent it back to PCGS and got AU55.

All modern, post-'64 U.S. coins are boring and soulless.
What about the Kennedy half dollars?
@@667hodge type1 '64 silver are beautiful, right?
@@667hodge ok I thought of a cool post-'64 U.S. coin: 2008-P $1 Bald Eagle (Regular Strike). Love the reverse w/ the Great Seal!

Peak Creative Culture happened in 1970s- 1980s, since then people are unable to think of anything new.
