    Cool project. The loop basically has a fixed pulse-width and frequency but will skip power pulses as needed based on the analog reading (bang-bang style). I have observed this phenomena on SMPS when no load to med load was introduced. I like the addition of the rare-earth magnets to stabilize the bolt. Figure ~13clk for the ADC, ~4clk for the if statement, and ~100clk for the digitalWrite = ~117 clock cycles roughly for this whole loop. Encasing the loop statements inside of a while loop inside the main loop will add more stability:
    loop()
    {
    while(1){
    analogRead;
    if(conditional) digitalWrite(pin, LOW);
    else digitalWrite(pin, HIGH);
    }
    }
    If an oscilloscope was used, say on the output of the hall sensor, you'd probably see something like a sawtooth at roughly 133kHz.

    This is an awesome project. I made a similar but smaller setup but using a solid core coil that repels the magnet as it tries to attract to the core. The ring keeps the magnet generally stable in the middle. This one looks extremely stable though and can hold some good weight.

      I would also like to make a similar project, is there a tutorial you followed or how did you make it work?

    • @Magneticitist
      @Magneticitist 3 года назад

      @@omrek001 There was a lot of trial and error. I ended up trying out different variations of this one, and the suspended magnet from an overhead coil, and ended up doing without the arduino once I found a combination of hall sensors and transistors which seemed to work, which were AH3503 sensors and TIP120 transistors. It's a little easier with the arduino because you can program a "set point" in the code and change it on the fly. This video here is a good tutorial on how to use the basic arduino code though.
      This basically involved monitoring what kind of voltage rise or drop I could get using those sensors and my magnets of choice, moving them around the distance I planned to suspend the magnet. This would cause the sensor to output a higher or lower voltage right around the ON voltage of the TIP120.
      I know I made a few levitator videos but can't recall what useful info I had in there if any. Here's one such video showing a few versions. ruclips.net/video/zpvZ0fD38qk/видео.html

    Would maybe an simple switching analog circuit work too?
    Setting up a circuit where the hall effect sensor output is driven directly to the transistor base, with some sort of setpoint adjuster, like a potentiometer.
    Undoubtedly a great project, a nice effect achieved in a simple way.
    I'll try to build one myself for sure xD

    I had to look up a hall effect sensor. That's cool. I was just watching some guy make a visual magnetism indicator. He poured yellow highlighter ink into mineral oil. Added iron filings into a small container. Like a hand sanitizer bottle. put it next to a field and you'd be able to see the field change.

    Better to use fish paper than clear tape for insulation. Also better to use iron core or even a nail for a core than air core as the current will quickly heat the wire where the enamel will melt with this design. Also there is a red fiberglass board that is available in even 1/16" that is much safer than using wood, as it is designed as an electrical insulator.

    So did you use a relay at all or no? I did my math and my electromagnet needs 1.1 amp at 12 volts because of the wire resistance. At 5 v it would be around 0.5 but arduino still won't be able to do anything. Secondly I tried making a single electromagnet with both polarities. To phrase that better I used two relays to make the electromagnet switch from attraction to repulsion and back to keep the magnet from flying sideways. I am still not done as the relays are drawing a lot if power from the board and then I feel like due to their quality their springs get stuck. I might be wrong. I might be right. But I can really use some ideas and suggestions.
    BTW I am a mechanical engineering student too just wanted to have a fun project and I got inspired by you.
