Kashi's cage needed a partial clean out and I also decided to change up the layout again. She had been in the Avatar cage theme for about 5 or so months and before that, it was a Savannah Grasslands / Desert theme. I decided to set up her Rainforest theme again, which is similar to how she had it in past but a bit more simplified. The reason I decided on this theme again is because my time was limited and it was faster to set up a previous layout rather than come up with something totally new. (Also, both Kashi and I really liked the Rainforest, I have to admit! 😊 🌿) In this video I will talk a bit about the changes and also show footage of Kashi doing what she does best....exploring and looking cute! If you don’t already, I would highly recommend getting a shop vac and using that for bedding removal. I have done that for years in my custom 2’ by 4’ hamster cages and it is amazing! I take out all the hides and put the temporary cage with my hamster in is in another room and he does just fine and the vacuum works amazingly!!
Happy Hammys what hamster will you get? And if you can’t afford a cage like hopping hammy’s, you should go to target ( or Walmart ) and get a large bin, cut ho,es in the top and you have a gigantic hamster cage that cost at most $20!

My favourite videos are of cute hammies going about their day. Kashi looks as gorgeous as ever. I say this every time but her fur is so beautiful and thick. Her cage looks amazing, as always. Six and a half hours of cleaning one cage sounds exhausting. I can imagine Kashi tantruming about that in her temporary cage. I've had a few hams who tantrum in a temporary cage during cage cleaning. I can't bear them being unhappy, however temporary, and rush to get everything cleaned. They are always so excited to be back in their clean cages. Kashi looks so happy exploring her lovely home. I love it when she got dirty, I think it looks cute. She looked super cute playing on her little swing. Her face coming right up to the camera was adorable. I just think everything hamsters do is the cutest thing ever. Such a lovely video. I hope you and your family have a very happy Easter.
She's so pretty 💖 I love how she keeps looking at you, it just shows the bond that you have with her. I too, love the rainforest theme, and I kind of think, that when there home is completely changed too often, it's not a good thing. They would never make such drastic changes in the wild, and could make them feel displaced. But she is clearly very happy with her lovely home. You're so lucky to be able to have the space for such a large home for her. I haven't been able to get another hamster since my Benny McMonkey passed away on 4th of July last year... Thank you so much Animal Love Fest! 😊 Yes, she is happy and seems to do well with a change-up about every 5-6 months. My experience with changing cages up has been dependent upon the hamster's personality and the size of the cage. For some hamsters, it certainly can cause stress if they are the type that is nervous or that likes a steady routine. However for other hamsters, it can be beneficial as they have new things to explore and it keeps their mind busy. (A bored hamster is not a happy hamster, as we know! 🐹 ) As far as comparing to how things are in the wild, it's kind of tricky because our cages will never be able to provide what the wild does in terms of space and area. Hamsters can choose to go anywhere they want to, which is similar to having a new area to explore. They might even change the location of their burrow to be somewhere completely new. For this reason, I don't feel that changing a cage is as harmful as some might make it out to be. But again, it does depend on the hamster and it's important to know their preferences. Hopefully this helps to explain a little! 💕 I'm very sorry about your loss of Benny McMonkey. That's such a cute name for a hamster and he must have had a great personality too. It looks all so fresh and new and Kashi looks so hapy. Yes it is a rainforresttheme again but it is also different and absolutely stunning and lovely to watch. It is almost impossible with such a big project to change it completely every time and there is also no need too. If you should do a rainforresttheme every time and only change a few little things it would be still soooo nice to watch. Xxx
Watched your video twice because I enjoyed it so much. The bird singing background sounds was very soothing. I love watching Kashi explore and found the part where she attempts to get on the sand bath bridge by the side and failing was cute. Hehe! She's so funny when I put her in a smaller tank. She genuinely throws a tantrum every time. Like she will be flipped on her back, upside down, chewing at her hideout and banging it against the glass. She also shoves the bedding out of the corners and sits and sulks there. 😂

Sometimes we can say things that we regret later or didn't really mean at the time. Honestly I think the best thing to do is just apologize and tell her you're sorry for what was said. Just a simple apology without excuses. I know it's hard to do, but you can maybe type an email or write a letter if it's too difficult to do in person. I promise you'll feel much better and it will give a chance to mend the relationship. What is that stuff in the dish Kashi sat in, in the beginning of the video? Never seen that before. I love how it looks, its more simple, and simple means its easier to change things around when needed. It looks very nice! I wish i could give my Syrian hamsters a cage like this. But that would mean that i have to get rid of my couch hahaha. Im not 100% sure if id ever want a syrian hamster again. Maybe 1, after these 2 are gone. But its too much for me sometimes, the time out of the cage every day, im not so good at that. Maybe when im feeling better soon and have more room in my head for new things. I got 3 jugsaw puzzles for my birthday. One is a gradient puzzle, the other is a double sided puzzle with dalmatian dogs on it. And the other one is the completely white puzzle that i wanted. maybe if you make a spring/garden theme you could use natural bird houses as hideouts. I don't know where you would hang it but you could add a bird ladder leading up to it. maybe even buy some non toxic paint and draw a design! just an idea, love your cage, I'm sure Kashi loves it too! I copied your idea for the fishbowl filled with sand and I thought it was weird my hamster uses it as a bathroom and food storage. But I'm glad it's normal if Kashi does it, too. Lol I just can't stand how cute she is! You get the best footage of her. Maybe someday you could do a Lord of the Rings theme like Hobbiton or Rivendell. That's my absolute favorite movie so I would be such a fangirl over it lol
Hello! Yes, it's definitely common for a hamster to use it as a potty or pantry. In fact, it's often recommended to use a jar to intentionally potty train them to go in that area. It sure makes cage cleaning much easier if they use it! Thank you for your suggestions too and I absolutely want to do something that is LOTR related in future, I just didn't have time to do that now. :)

Perhaps I am, but there are always people who don't seem to understand that or who put a lot of pressure. I also try to explain, as best as possible, my reasons for doing things so that everyone can learn and get a better sense of my decisions for Kashi and how they benefit her. :) Being on a public platform like YT can cause a lot of people to jump in and say, "You're doing this wrong! You're doing that wrong!" without even understanding, so I try my best to explain...and yes, be honest during times that I'm not up to being all fancy with my videos lol. 💗 😂 Thank you very much!
I know this an old post & Kashi is no longer with us but can I ask about her wheel? The Carolina Storm comes in 3.8 & 5 inch running surfaces with 10.2 & 10.5 in inside diameters. Which one would be better?
Can you make a video of setting up a cage theme the next time you do it? It’s always so fascinating to see how some bedding and supplies can come to life the way you make it. It would be amazing if you would consider this. And lastly I just want to say that I admire you a lot for doing this for you beloved pets. They couldn’t have had a better owner. 🤗
Hi Kaylie! So far I haven't been able to film the full process of setting a cage up for quite a few reasons. The first is that the cage is too big to fit into one frame for video. In order to do so, I have to squish the camera up against my desk and there isn't a whole lot of room for the tripod, etc. Another reason is because cage changes normally take me hours upon hours, sometimes days, so my camera card wouldn't be able to record that much footage in one go. The last reason is because I'd have to keep my filming lights on and they get too hot. It's honestly just a lot of hassle and time, but maybe one day in future I'll try to document some of the process for you to watch. 🤗

Sure! I use children's play sand from Home Depot. I have always found it very clean and dust free, so I don't do anything to sanitize it. (In fact I believe it's already sanitized, since it's meant for children's sand boxes to play in.)
Hi can you do a video on all the substrates you used in Kashi's cage here? I want to add a few more substrate into my hammy cage but I'm not sure which substrates are safe.
I love these natural habitats, but does anyone have one and know how to keep all the wooden things clean? I imagine the hamster goes to the bathroom while exploring and even though the bedding can be changed out, how is all of the moss, grasses, wood, etc ever cleaned? Is it all replaced all the time?

No, it really doesn't smell because she only pees in her glass jar or on her wheel, both of which are cleaned out every night. :) Occasionally she might pee in her sand box, but I also scoop that out as needed. She's quite tidy and I don't notice odor from her cage.

Hello! Yes, it's definitely common for a hamster to use it as a potty or pantry. In fact, it's often recommended to use a jar to intentionally potty train them to go in that area. It sure makes cage cleaning much easier if they use it! Thank you for your suggestions too and I absolutely want to do something that is LOTR related in future, I just didn't have time to do that now. :)

Perhaps I am, but there are always people who don't seem to understand that or who put a lot of pressure. I also try to explain, as best as possible, my reasons for doing things so that everyone can learn and get a better sense of my decisions for Kashi and how they benefit her. :) Being on a public platform like YT can cause a lot of people to jump in and say, "You're doing this wrong! You're doing that wrong!" without even understanding, so I try my best to explain...and yes, be honest during times that I'm not up to being all fancy with my videos lol. 💗 😂 Thank you very much!
I know this an old post & Kashi is no longer with us but can I ask about her wheel? The Carolina Storm comes in 3.8 & 5 inch running surfaces with 10.2 & 10.5 in inside diameters. Which one would be better?
Can you make a video of setting up a cage theme the next time you do it? It’s always so fascinating to see how some bedding and supplies can come to life the way you make it. Hi Kaylie! So far I haven't been able to film the full process of setting a cage up for quite a few reasons. The first is that the cage is too big to fit into one frame for video. In order to do so, I have to squish the camera up against my desk and there isn't a whole lot of room for the tripod, etc. Another reason is because cage changes normally take me hours upon hours, sometimes days, so my camera card wouldn't be able to record that much footage in one go. The last reason is because I'd have to keep my filming lights on and they get too hot. It's honestly just a lot of hassle and time, but maybe one day in future I'll try to document some of the process for you to watch. 🤗

Sure! I use children's play sand from Home Depot. I have always found it very clean and dust free, so I don't do anything to sanitize it. (In fact I believe it's already sanitized, since it's meant for children's sand boxes to play in.)

I love these natural habitats, but does anyone have one and know how to keep all the wooden things clean? I imagine the hamster goes to the bathroom while exploring and even though the bedding can be changed out, how is all of the moss, grasses, wood, etc ever cleaned? Is it all replaced all the time?

Does Kashi’s cage smell bad after a few months?
No, it really doesn't smell because she only pees in her glass jar or on her wheel, both of which are cleaned out every night. :) Occasionally she might pee in her sand box, but I also scoop that out as needed. She's quite tidy and I don't notice odor from her cage.
