뒷다리를 구부려 웅크리고 앉아있는 모습, 크고 동그랗게 뜬 눈에 철화 안료로 표현된 눈동자, 낮게 숙이고 있는 귀, 등에 올려붙인 꼬리.
매우 친근감 있는 모습의 이 문화재는 청자 사자 장식 향로입니다.
이 향로는 뚜껑 위에 사자가 올라가 있고, 향을 피우는 몸체에는 세 개의 다리가 붙어 있습니다. 따라서 몸체에서 향을 피우면 뚜껑에 장식된 사자의 입을 통해 향이 나올 수 있도록 만들어진 것입니다.
이와 같은 상형 청자는 고려청자의 전성기였던 12세기에 제작되어 두드러진 특색을 이루는데, 고려청자 특유의 아름다운 비색과 더불어 세련된 조형으로서 당시 고려 공예의 높은 솜씨를 엿보게 합니다.

Celadon Lion Shaped Incense Burner
Crouching down with its rear legs bended over, wide opened big eyes which are decorated in ferrous pigment, low-set ears with a tail stick to its back. This friendly looking lion sitting on the incense burner is one of the national treasures.
The lion is placed on the top of the lid, and the main body of the burner has three legs. It is designed when the user put the incent inside of this main body, the incense’s scent comes out of the lion’s mouth.
This kinds of hieroglyphic celadon was created in 12th century when Goryeo celadon’s prime time, and it offers a chance to appreciate for the audience how Goryeo’s craft was well developed specifically presenting its specialized and sophisticated its celadon green.
