hi! its me - grace, otherwise known as lipsticks and lattes! if you're new here, I am in my third and final year of law school. Being a law student is a lot of work - but it isn't impossible to do more than just law school. I make a lot of law school day in my life videos, week in my life videos, work related videos, and some beauty and fashion tip videos. So, I know it may sound crazy but I also have a 9-6 job and what I did for the bar was early mornings. I started early and did about 4 daily hours. I would be way too tired at end of work to study on top of that. Also, your mind is clearer in the morning so that's a plus.
How early are we walking? 4 am? Lol asking for a friend 👀
As a non morning person, my mind is definitely not clearer early in the morning 😅😅 i wish!!
@@lifeafterlawschoolwithmari8627 yes, I did 4am so I could start at 4:30. It’s a sacrifice as anything related to bar study would be but it’s over before you know it.

Watching this as a break between my extended bar prep videos! I’m a 3L and taking the extended course to try and get prepared. You have really inspired me and I’m grateful for you sharing your bar journey with us because it shows me that I want to persevere and that even the smartest people might not succeed the first time. It’s helping me a little with my anxiety about the exam and I’m really grateful because I know it was not easy to share! I’m excited to see your second bar prep journey! Even if it’s just study montages 🤷🏻♀️ haha sorry for the long comment... have been at a computer all day for zoom school of law

I’m not sure if you’ve done this already or not, but can you do a video about your work wardrobe? Like how to build a professional wardrobe while still being stylish and age appropriate. I just started a new job that requires a more business like attire and I’m used to wearing jeans and t shirt everyday lol any tips on staple pieces etc would be great! Love your vlogs and Peach 😊
Start with neutral colors because it can get expensive and trying stuff on is hard with fitting Rooms closed.
Black slacks (fit of your choice, skinny, tapered, straight, wide legs) I prefer a skinny ankle). Tan slacks, dark jeans with no holes for Friday’s if you can.
Gray slacks.
Get a few cute jackets or sweaters you can pair with them. For shirts without jackets I definitely stick to a classic silhouette and you can start with neutral colors you can wear with the pants you have. Tops are the place where you can get colorful if you want.
For shoes low heel or flats or cute boots. You don’t want your feet to hurt.

Hi grace. I’m a little confused 🤣 whenever I research law firms it’s always this 60 - 80 hour work week, with crazy schedules and lack of work/life balance. Some Law firms have regular 40-50 hour work weeks ? Or do you work within a business/company?
Some law firms do have regular 40-50 hour work weeks. I work for a law firm and my schedule is 9-5 with a 1 hour lunch break. Some nights I stay until 6 as necessary, so it can be about 40-50 hours including lunch. The firms that require 60-80 hours of work are either over working their people, and/or paying salaries in the 150-180,000 range. Just my two cents, hope it helps.
I agree with Hannah's response. When I worked for small law firms, the hours were more like 9 to 5:30 or 6:30pm. Of course, I got paid a lot less than what the big law associates working til 10pm made.
My husband does the same thing when I text him a grocery list 🤦🏼♀️

ummm yeah, I work 45-60hr weeks and am studying for professional exams for I think is equivalent to your internal medicine residency program. It's hard and you lose your personal life, live with fatigue for months!

In my state (Virginia) we have required safety inspections every year to get a new windshield sticker to indicate a passing inspection. I know not all states have those though

Not trying to be negative, but my advice if you want to have a chance to pass the bar you should go on a loa or otherwise quit and spend every moment preparing for it. If you don't feel up to it, defer it to summer. Don't try to work and study.

Hey Grace, dermatologists recommend using a makeup remover oil or cream over the wipes! You were probably super tired so maybe that’s why you used the wipes but just something to look into:)

On one hand, it’s kinda cute seeing a 3L and hearing what they envision, on the other, knowing the reality, you just have to sigh. Sucks that the 80s/90s fairytale still lives on. Guess is that you’ll baby-lawyer for a few years, maybe maintain your relationship and have a kid or two, but burnout will be there be around 3-5 years. You’ll maybe make some changes and postpone the decline. By year 7, divorce is happening or likely. You’ll get the kids because that’s the way it works, but you’ll refuse to stop the grind. There will be a string of short, unfulfilling relationships and strife with kids and ex will be constant. By 12 years out, you’ll wonder what the hell you were thinking, maybe chuck it all and go small time solo or partner with a pseudo female friend as a way to say your still in the game. By 15 years out, your miserable and drinking at least 3 glasses a day just to get by and wishing your kid or kids would just leave you alone, and a cat or two has replaced any hope of a relationship. And by year 20, kid or kids barely speak to you, you operate on autopilot most of the time, and the narcissistic personality disorder is in full swing with no prospects of any kind of relationships. Welcome to wine and cats and the precipitous decline. Not a pleasant ride at all. But, good luck with that. Maybe you’ll lotto out early.
