I have just stumbled across your channel, I like your approachable manner. My hope is in a few years retiring to Italy, but for now it's just a dream. We have visited twice, the first time just my wife and I for our 15th anniversary and the second time with kids, my sister and mother in law. First trip we rented a Fiat Panda and drove that thing all around northern Tuscany and had a blast. It had been a while since I drove a manual and I loved it. The car might have been underpowered for some of the hills but if fit anywhere we wanted to go.
The second trip we rented an AUDI A6. Hated every minute in that car. Way to large for Italian roads. Parking was a pain, Actually drove down a road that became too narrow and had to back out for a quarter mile before I could turn around. Thankfully we had help from some locals. Lesson learned so when we retire there if we buy a car it will be a small runabout like a Panda.

The Fiat Panda you have is mild hybrid. Pand is the best car for city (parks almost everywhere)

I love my fiat panda, I have the cross version and it’s cheap to run and repair. It’s a little underpowered at times but I can live with that as I mostly use it for town driving. It does cruise on the motorway ok but I won’t be getting a speeding ticket anytime soon 😁. The panda is a massively underrated city car, it also absorbs potholes with ease which other more expensive cars I’ve owned don’t. Plus James May loves it.Best wishes from the UK 👍.

Yes we love it. It’s such an easy car. Especially here in Italy where the roads are so narrow. Thank you so much for your comment. 😊

What should I expect to pay for a gently used car like this one? Also what interest rate and term did you get, and is your loan payment denominated in euro?

You can find a panda like this anywhere from 13k and below. It all depends on how many kilometers it has and other variables. The interest rate could also varied. You could buy cars private or through dealership. Yes is in euros. The biggest issue is the driver license. We did that part first because it’s a nightmare and right now they are giving 5000 euro tickets to anyone driving on a US license if they’ve been in Italy for over a year. We have a video explaining the process of the DL.

@@360cynandscott Thanks for the info and for the great content. Is it easier to get a motorcycle or a vespa or something like that? I am considering moving to Italy and would rather not have a car, and was wondering what the options are if we don't live within walking distance of a train station.
Also did you guys move to Belgium or is that just a vacation?

Buying a Vespa or any kind of moped you still require an AM class license.
Buying is not the issue. You will be able to buy something but you will only able to drive it or ride it for a year. We didn't have a vehicle for the first 2 years living there and we were about 30 minute walk from the train station (10 min bike ride). We used bicycles and buses. But after 2 years I decided to get my license to get a car because the weather gets pretty uncomfortable when you have to walk or wait for a bus.
We moved to Belgium to see what northern Europe has to offer. Let us know if you have any more questions. We are happy to help.
