    Hello, thank you for all of your videos. I'm a video editor and you've extended the life of my Macbook Pro mid-2012 so many years! I have a question, would a Kingston 480GB A400 SATA 3 2.5" Internal SSD SA400S37/480G - HDD work in the data doubler?

    • @poweredbyowc

      Hey BortSimpson. Yes any 2.5" Internal SSD will work in our Data doubler without any problems.

    Hi! Installation went great!
    My 2nd SSD shows up on disk Utility but when I go to erase it says “erase process has failed.”
    Do you know how to fix this issue?

    Can I use this data doubler tray and install crucial CT250MX500SSD1 and use it as the only drive? (boot and data)? I believe the main sata of my 'MBP mid 2012' port is not working properly. (intermittently detecting the SSD drive.)

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  Год назад

      To the best of my knowledge, as long as you have an OS installed on that drive, you should be able to use any drive as a boot drive and for data. You may want to partition it so it has 2 separate volumes (one for OS, one for data storage) but otherwise, again I think you should be good there. :)

    Please, do you know if I can cannibalize the fully working keyboard and disc drive from a late 2011 18" Macbook pro, and put them in a late 2011 13 inch Macbook pro? I think the keyboard would almost for certain, but I'm wondering if the connections for the optical disk drive would match up? Surely the must have used the same components in the two different models. Thank you so much if you have any answers and the time to give them. I'm quite handy with computer guts, but I don't have the tools to make custom lead wires.

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  2 года назад +1

      Well in Theory that should work however sadly here at OWC we don't cover swapping of built in keyboards, However for the Optical drive i can confirm that shouldn't be an issue. If you ever have any other questions or concerns please let us know at support@owc.com!

    Hi. I installed a second ssd on my 13' 2011 MBP OS High Sierra. Not thinking at all the new SSD needed formatting. Took it out formatted it using a HD Dock thru usb. It showed I formatted it. Put it back in the casing and back into my MBP. Put it back together and turned it on. Still no second SSD. Any clue what I'm missing?

      Have you tried going into disk utility and doing a partition or delete the drive yet?

    • @BeastModeMuzik
      @BeastModeMuzik 4 года назад

      @@thisisamboarding Yes I can only see it when I take it out my MBP. insert it in my external HD dock. It shows up then Like an external drive.

      You should be able to see it in disk utility. Command space bar and the type in disk utility. If you don’t see it there just reformat it when you plug it in that way

      It's still doesn't work for some reason. I even bought A different HD tray still no luck. Craziest thing is One day I left my computer on and my battery ran down. When I turned it back on and plugged it up once it boot it told me that my computer was shut down inproperly and it show my drive once my desktop came up with the name I named it as. After I shut down and restarted it I didn't see it again

      @poweredbyowc  3 года назад

      Great question! No, you do not.
      Once installed, you can format the drive within Disk Utility. You can visit this link on how to format a drive depending on the OS you are running and the drive that you are installing. eshop.macsales.com/owcpages/tech_support/drive-formatting-tips.html

    What the maximal hard drive can I use I have 1 tb I recently install I need more storage can I add a 2tb or 4tb to the daily double without issues I have 8gb of memory

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  Год назад

      You can install any capacity drive in your MacBook we carry upto 4TB SSD. You can install 2 4TB one in the main bay and one in the Data doubler without an issue. Now we would recommend you upgrade the memory to 16GB so you have no speed issues.

      @@poweredbyowc I have a 2013 13 inch MacBook will it take 16 gb apple said 8 was the max also how will I get 2 4tb I understand the one in the data doubler which I purchase yesterday but how am I’m getting 2 4tb in the place of my main hard drive and will all this work in a 2013 MacBook without a issue is it proven or a therory according to apple it won’t work

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  Год назад

      If you have a 2013 MacBook Pro it physically can take 16GB if you would of purchased it that way when it was purchased from Apple. Starting in Late 2012 Apple has soldered the drives to the motherboard and is not customer upgradable unfortunately. Also in Late 2012 you can only upgrade the SSD in the MacBook Pro and not do a data doubler because you no longer have the optical drive to install the 2nd drive into. This is why its impossible because because all retina display machine can only take one drive until the prior 2012 Mac you can install 2 SSD.
