Yeah, wasn't the checkpoint 15 mins before the first attack ? I'm honestly surprised that he didn't loop, considering the fact Emilia got kidnapped but he was dying by the end of the fight, so I guess he wouldn't mind either way.
He really impressed me in this arc! He didnt loop once for most of it, and that speech was great. Also him shutting his mouth in the meeting where they wanted to focus on Crush was gold.
And for me this is why it kind of hurts that subaru will lose his memories in arc 6 and effectively reset, finally after he becomes the person he always wanted to be. But I can see why it happened becayse it deffaintly spices things up
Hard agree, arc 5 is hella underrated. Subaru's big speech legit makes me tear up every time I read it. And there are just so many cool fight scenes that will really get a chance to shine in season 3.

I have always that issue deciding which i prefer between arc 3 and 5 . Arc 6 > Arc 4 >>> Arc 5 = Arc 3 > Arc 1/2 ( i bundle them together ). Arc 5 and 3 both have one of my favorite moment ( Subaru's speech in arc 5 and the second part of episode 15 in arc 3 ). Arc 4 has the best chapter in the whole serie , and my favorite moment ever : Choose me. Arc 6 has the most epic come back ever , i won't spoil it. It's a tough one , i really can't decide.

Arc 5 explores more of the psychology of Emilia Tan. Arc 4 explores the complexity of Echidna and Subaru relationship on the concept of Greed. Arc 5 is written to focus over the concept of notion of lust and envy. Arc 5 explores the greed concept and how the characters see the different perspectives of the characters. It goes to the concept of the idea of committing a human sin. While deconstructing the meaning of a cardinal sin and religious belief's.
Arc 5 is the best arc of all, Subaru and reinhardt teaming up ( Emilia too at points) (not to throw less Emilia but for chapter reason she has her own moments) was amazing! Subaru beat the 2nd strongest character literally by himself by out thinking him and finding out his weakness, even sticks his tongue out at him lmao subaru showed us in arc 5 that he had conquered all of his greed and sins (mostly) to be the average isekai hero ( usually in their respective arc 1 heroeness) but even Reinhard could not have beaten regulus without subaru finding out his weakness, but Emilia did help a super lot and though I don't want to take away from her, Subaru is the only one who was piecing everything together and even tappei said so but not In the way mention it lol it's so good of a arc! Everyone was so good. What was your favorite part of the arc? Mine was when julius, felix, Wilhelm and others recalled arc 3 and subarus achievements lol
There are so many amazing scenes in this arc but I especially love getting to see Priscilla actually fight, Emilia's scene with the wives, Subaru's speech, the whole of everything involved in fighting Capella, and Regulus' death as it was in the web novel (most crazy death of the series so far!).

I think the thing with Liliana is, even though she is really annoying, she's kind of intentionally annoying, and it doesn't feel like we're being forced to like her - all of the other characters find her annoying too. She also makes for an interesting way to present Priscilla's fight which is one of the coolest fights in the arc in my opinion - I guess they had to pair my best girl Priscilla up with the worst character just to give everyone else a chance! But I think the team up of Subaru, Reinhard and Emilia is something pretty special to see, as well. Plus, having Beatrice out of action for Subaru's fight (though still getting to do some cool stuff on her own later on) was good, to remind us that he's gotten stronger even without having Beako to work with. There are just so many awesome things in arc 5!

No, she doesn't no one pieced that together in time. Then she gets a staring main character role for 7 chapters when everyone else is 100x more interesting because we all know exactly what's going too happen.
I don't think that would be unreasonable compared with other anime. It's quite a lot shorter than arc 4 too so it will be interesting to see whether they go for less episodes or just cut nothing out (and maybe add in some of the stuff cut from arc 3...)
If season 3 gets made then season 4 is guaranteed, arc 5 has all the action most mainstream anime have. I've always liked arc 5 for its potential to make more hype for the anime.
Arc 5 is basically a shounen anime arc it's focused on action, But it's in re:zero which made it 10× better for me, Re:zero is well known for it's emotional torture on weebs but arc 5 is some breath of fresh air which balances things out, I'm not saying it's better than 6 or 4 but I think it will shine as anime. BTW I'm really curious what will happen in arc 7!

I love arc five, love it more than six. 1. Both Subaru and Emilia are great in this arc. 2. In retrospect Sirius is a great character, that I'm really excited to know more about. I don't believe the most popular theory about her, I think it's an even more spectacular reveal waiting to happen. 3. Ana and Echidna was such a twist. I remember how Anastasia introduces herself in season one as being a greedy gal. So good 4. Priscilla was also amazing, really turn my perception around about her. Sure she is still a bitch, but she is a bad bitch. That and all the other things you mentioned.
I agree with you about 1, 3 and 4 (especially 4 - I love Priscilla so much after arc 5), but for 2, I do agree she is a great character but I can't really think what else her identity could be other than the popular theory. I think the spectacular reveal will be there, but it will be more about how she became Sirius, than that her origin isn't the person most people think it is... I'd love to hear what you think it might be though - now I'm wondering if I'm just lacking imagination to go along with the usual theory!

Even though I’d always always always always always always always always always always been looking…" -arc 5 chapter 25 Now, who is giving out witch factors, and naming people after stars from earth? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say it was Flugel. If it is true, then Sirius knew him personally, but when Pete absorbed Sloth he mentioned Flugel like he was already gone “I beg you forgive me, Flugel-sama.” - arc 4 chapter 118. These are two big assumptions, granted, but I conclude that Sirius became who she is before Pandora and Regulus invaded Elior forest. With the obvious exception of time travel, it's chronologically impossible for Sirius to be who most people assume she is. So, who is she? No idea. But I think that beneath those bandages lies the same face that Emilia and Satella share. All three of them being different people. Some hints: 1. Hair and eye color is an obvious reason. 2. Speech patterns when she isn't consumed by rage and psychopatic tendencies, she is clearly shy and introverted and has some very Emilia like lines "Gosh, honestly. Please excuse me, I’m very sorry" / "“Thank you. I really only need just a little bit of it, so please let me borrow your time.” / "- Alright! That’s enough!” / "However, thank you all for your attention. I’m very happy" / "I’m very sorry to take up everyone’s precious time. Sorry, and thank you" / "My head isn’t too good, [...] and I feel very guilty" - Arc 5 chapters 18,19. Also her yandere side is familiar [Sirius: “I’ve always been waiting for only you… my dear, dear Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti!” - arc 5 chapter 25] is very similar to [Satella: “You-only you-will I always, always be in love with.” -arc 4 chapter 77] Reason one is very flimsy, and reason two could be totally wrong due to how translating from Japanese to English loses a lot of meaning, or is polluted by translators who do not know what subtleties to look for. The last reason is one that gives me chills whenever I read or think about it... 3. Arc 5 Chapter 76: "Subaru stopped in his tracks due to an unpleasant sensation that grated against his skull just when they were about to reach the entrance [...] ――Just before leaving the room, he'd realised that [Sirius] was humming. / She was out of tune, her pitch and rhythm were both in a state of chaos. This dissonance didn't come to a stop there. [...] Her [song] was something more eerie, and distorted." ...Sirius is tone deaf
OK this is awesome and I love it. Maybe, if my Emilia is a clone theory is true, there have been other Satella clones Echidna created at the request of, idk, maybe Satella, maybe Flugel, and Sirius could have been one who went wrong after being given the witch factor of wrath. I'd literally just gone along with the 'she's Fortuna turned into Sirius by Pandora' theory, because that too would explain her similarities to Emilia (being her aunt) and her love for Petelgeuse. There's loads of crackpot stuff that can be done with this idea, too, like, maybe that's why Petelgeuse loved Satella - because he was actually in love with a clone of her, them perhaps having both been created at the same time, and that's why he took so much of an interest in child Emilia, in a strange way thinking of her as a kind of daughter of the woman he loved. Maybe there was never anything romantic between him and Fortuna at all, it was just what child Emilia, who wanted parents, chose to see, or maybe there was, but it was after Sirius had gone mad, and that is why Sirius keeps talking about 'that woman' and Emilia - she actually hates Fortuna. Idk, there's a lot of possibilities. I like this theory a lot!
I love arc 5 because I love all the other characters outside of the main cast so it was nice seeing them get some time and development. I hope arc 5 gets an announcement for mid or late 2021 but with the current pandemic i think that’s asking a lot.
This ARC is full of my favorite fights: Garfiel vs Kurgan, Wilhelm rematch with his wife, Subaru and Reinhard double team Greed and otto, felt and Beactrice fight off one of the gluttonys. Subaru's speech and his knowledge of stars helped take out greed. Greed time stop powers were lit.

*Arc 05: Stars that Engrave History* is personally my favorite Arc thus far. Sure, Arc 04 is the best and Arc 06 has a wonderful message that Tappei is trying to conceive. But what makes Arc 05 is special is that it's so different and it's a Far-cry from what the audience typically expects from Re:Zero. Which is genius way of subverting expectations from the *MADMAN* Tappei Nagatsuki. Asking the question *"What if... Subaru didn't die every 3 chapters?"* and this Arc solidifies what Satella told Subaru to *LOVE HIMSELF* and not rely on RBD. Instead, relying on those around him. That started from Otto's gamble against the odds from Arc 04. Seeing everyone work together towards a common goal, their different Perspectives that doesn't only focus on just the Emilia Camp. *More Wilhelm in my life is always a great thing* My most respected character in all of anime. Julius being more likable even though I know the reasons why he beat up Subaru in Arc 03 just to protect him. Seeing Priscilla in a new light along with Al. *AND MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!* Subaru being very humble and compassionate that other characters get annoyed or weirded out of. A huge change in character from the previous Arc's. And yes, I'm in the minority that *GENUINELY* likes Liliana as a character and I'm very excited to see her anime debut. (NOT SARCASM) People get annoyed from her but don't takes a closer look why she's acts that way. Her backstory made me even like her more and understand why she's like that. A shame that not a lot of people notice that.
my humble opinion is that if you as a person have siblings you get used to annoying people and find her adorable, while if you havent find her annoying. ;)
I think they'll have to add the Al ones - they can't keep anime onlies in the dark about him for another season! And I guess the Wilhelm one will either need to be done at the start of the season or just not done at all, since it's really foreshadowing for things in arc 5 that could be done without it being brought up beforehand like that...

@@NatalieXHunter I think the reason arc 5 isn’t talked about is because it’s right after arc 4 and before arc 6 and because we’ve had arc 6 for the pass 3 years now and because it wasn’t finished it took up a lot of speculation and arc 4 is right when the anime ended so it’s the starting point for a lot of fans. It also progressed the characters more than any arc before it. This isn’t to say arc 5 is bad but it does explain why it’s over looked

The thing about arc 5 that i think is going on is that it's a "moment" heavy arc. Like it has these amazing moments that get you excited more so than other arcs which makes them memorable, but the narrative thread is stronger in arcs 4 and 6. That's of course not to say that arc 5 is bad but after finishing arc 6 it falls just short of arc 4 & 6. Also I was thinking about this before in another video in that arc5 doesn't feel very re:zero-ey mainly because subaru doesn't die alot (which is not bad thematically , from lessons learned from arc4 ) but it does feel out of place and the type of arc that you'd see in a standard shounen anime.
Wrath,Greed,Lust, Gluttony All at the Same time Man Really Hoping this Arc Got Animated ( Personal Favorite) Can't Wait For the Reinhard vs Regulus Fight
Personally, I wouldn't even rank Arc 5 among the arcs because it deserves its own category all together since so many characters are being focused on. It's like trying to compare Infinity War & Endgame with individual movies of the MCU franchise. It's a different tone in a sense that it ended with lasting consequences: civilian casualties, Julius and a lot of others got their names or memories eaten, basically disable Crusch, Anastasia's body taken over, civilians got their bodies morphed and now in suspended animation and worst of all, the Astreas' fallout. Usually Subaru would die a certain number of times to achieve a very high payoff at the very end of an arc but Arc 5 really flipped that concept over its head. Although Subaru didn't die much (even though those 3 deaths were horrific), the arc ended in a melancholic nature rather than the usual satisfaction you'll get after all the suffering. I remember ending Arc 5 just depressed and fearful for the future. So yeah, Arc 5 deserves its own spot and shouldn't be compared with the others.
Yeah, some good points there. I suspect arc 7 might end up being a war arc, which could have a similar kind of structure, after the very internal, Subaru focused arc 6. Arcs 4 and 6 focused on major revelations and Subaru, whereas arc 5 is more about plot developments and the cast as a whole, so I think 7 might go in a similar direction and be very eventful for everybody concerned.
Subaru is clearly growing stronger I don't care what anyone says he didn't die so much and is action and decisions went very well can't wait till January for the 2nd half of season 2 so we get closer to ark 5 and maybe in a few years ark 7

Much as I hate her POV voice, the Priscilla stuff in arc 5 is so cool that I feel like it kinda works...

The other difference between Subaru and Roswall is that Roswall will actively arrange events to kill others, including people he cares about, to reach his goal. While I have more visceral disgust for what he does to Ram in Arc 4, Roswall knew that could be undone. In Oni sisters of the hidden village he knowingly sacrifices people close to him to reach a goal.
I didn't even read Arc 5 yet, but with the amount of fights in it, Arc 5 has the potential to be the best arc in the anime adaptation if it's animated right, atleast visually. just imagine arc 5 with the animation quality of ufotable for example... , but unfortunately that's not gonna happen.

I'm a little bit late, but I find the thing about Subaru making sacrifices really interesting The way I see it is that Subaru thinks that dying is losing everything, like, of course there's the possibility of RbD being time travel, in which case it becomes really unfair for people dying because of Sirius (the people in a comma and transformed into monsters aren't actually dead, and also Subaru has too many worries, like a possible butterfly effect killing even more people, or the save point being already updated, so I don't think it is that unfair, as they still have hope), but if RbD really is parallel universes (which Subaru can't completely rule out), then him dying is leaving everyone else behind to die, or worse, he knows that even if everything goes right and they still win, people like (specially) Betty will just be heartbroken by his death, and maybe she won't be able to carry on living, and there's a lot of people who will cry for him, and that is if things go right, because if not then he could very well be dooming the whole country, or even world (might be a bit extreme, but if the city of Priestella were to be inundated by the archbishops and Regulus were to be set loose... Well, Lugunica would most likely lose all of its candidates, and a whole lot of people would suffer even worst destinies than those in the bunkers), so as I see it, Subaru not killing himself for the people in the bunkers is more him being scared of causing even more pain and suffering than he would prevent, and also him accepting that he can't save everybody, specially he can't save everybody by condemning everyone that he wishes to save... Though that's just how I see it, I might be wrong, or misinterpreting things, but oh well, I really liked the video, thanks for bringing out the underappreciated Arc, as I really feel like Arc 5 needs more love :)
If season 3 gets announced and Otsuka makes a special illustration of all the featured characters in the arc I feel like he's gonna have a handful of characters to draw.
Regulus(Greed) powers are kinda like this. It's less akin to a cut or explosion and more him giving an object infinite inertia, or at least that's the best way I've heard it described. Inertia is the resistance an object has to its velocity changing. When Regulus makes a barrier by "stopping its time", the air around him basically just becomes completely unaffected by any outside force, it's velocity of zero never changing no matter how much force is applied. When Regulus throws air blades or rocks at people they basically continue to move forward at the same velocity no matter what force is applied to it, which is shown by even the reactant force of reinhard being unable to halt its velocity.
Arc 5 is the only arc that has no character development for Subaru , because it's main purpose is to show what he already has achieved. If arc 1-4 were lessons , arc 5 is an exam where Subaru goes all out and shows all of his growth
i think that arc5 gives us some very important information about rbd, since in this arc the checkpoint was set around 15 minutes in the past, meaning that there is a limit in the number of people that can be affected by it as well as the area of effect; while the area could be potentially larger than a city, the number seems to be related on how much time skip is possible fro the checkpoint to be made. In any other arc the checkpoint could go from hours to days before death, only in this one its a matter of minutes instead. We also see how the more subaru is under the effect of an authority in terms of time, the more he is able to be accostomed to it and resist it for more time, just like we read in the ln against petelgeuse possession (from 5sec to 2minutes). We also see an important advantage that there is when you fight an archbishop, since every one of them has behaviour based on their sin its possible to take advantage of it while fighting them, as we see with regulus.
I don't think it means that, personally. I think RBD takes Subaru back to the last 'safe' point in what he did, where he still has a chance to do something to avoid his own death. Satella only cares about saving Subaru, not about giving him the ability to save others - that's just how he chooses to use his powers. Subaru returns to the park 15 minutes before Sirius' attack because he was safe there, and could easily keep himself from being exposed to the threat of death by just not going to where he knows the incident will occur. It was made pretty clear in arc 4 that from the witch's perspective, Subaru wasn't given this ability to be a hero, just to keep himself alive, and the checkpoint in arc 5 really highlights how this can work against him when he actually does want to save people.
I don't think there is an area of effect for RBD - otherwise it would mean there were places that were literally days behind other places in the world. I think RBD affects the whole world.
Really!? Arc5 is one of my most favorite, if not the most favorite arc! I've read arc5 alone multiple times. Like you said it's not the most informative of them but it's the most exhilarating in my opinion, pure fun and enjoyment.
I'll consider it but I don't think we know *that* much about them really - i could explain what we do know I guess, but probably a lot of the stuff you feel like you don't understand about them is stuff we just don't know yet.
I am a light novel reader and I just finished reading the 14th vuloum of re zero and I can't wait for the other half to come out. I also can't wait to see arc 5 to be animated because I heard a few things that will happen in arc 5 plus I also can't wait for the light novels version of arc 5 so I can read it I can see a season 3 of re zero happening at least late 2021 or somewhere near 2022 since arc 5 is done for both web novels and light novels and once season 3 is done airing I won't be surprised that we will get a season 4 as well
I can see the Garfiel ship and it would make sense considering their heritage. Hopefully action is well animated. Also kind of sad what happened to Garfiel and his mom. I wonder if he will rectify their relationship in the future or if it will conclude as is. Also apparently Garfiel also crossdressses and is supposed to appear in arc 7 so it would be interesting if him and Subaru both dressed up lol
Its not that i hate this garfiel ship, but the fact tappei felt to include a back up for ram basically guarantees they wont be together in my opinion, which makes rams fate somewhat tied to roswaal, and considering he wasnt totally redeemed, he is just neutral now, and did some really questionable things for echidna, i think he will relapse into doing bad stuff. And when this happens Ram, particularly considering how we dont connect as deeply with her as an audience than emilia or Rem and she has the oni goddess thing going on, becomes a prime target for an unreversible sacrifice in the main cast , and i'm basically sure Rams days are numbered =(.
Greed's time stop ability was awesome, Greed may be insanely evil, but you have to admit that his powers are pretty cool! Turning ordinary water, gravel, blood, or even breath into a deadly weapon.

This is the arc were Subaru is actually a badass and does not rely on his authority to save everyone and in this arc that we can see the results of subaru's determination he vowed to be have in arc 4 to not rely on Return By Death too much And Garfiel, I cant begin to imagine the pain he went through in this arc, learning that his mother is survived the landslide, forgetting everything including Garfiel and the time she had in the sanctuary, found a new husband and have new kids which is Garfiel's Half Blood Siblings, confronting them all at once, even though every second passed he endured every pain in that moment, rather than lashing out he endured it and he still helps her mother's husband even though everytime he interacts with them, he feels pain but still continues to help them... If that is not manly to you, I dont know what is because for me that is the most Manliest thing that I ever seen

I find it really hard to think about Arc 5, because events are happening are a record pace, and they are presented in a fragmented arrangement so that each is progressing roughly simultaneously. Now this is how a more "traditional" story, like say the journey in Narnia "The Horse and his Boy", would be written, but it makes me confused because this is a serious departure from Re:Zero's normal progression pattern.
That's the thing - Re:Zero doesn't really have a normal progression pattern, and each arc from 3 onwards (1 and 2 have a similar 'Subaru must use RbD to solve mysteries and prevent something' structure, but together they are kind of an extended prologue) has its own identity and feel, in the way RbD is used, in who it focuses on, in the pacing, in really everything. Arc 5 is more traditional in some ways from an anime perspective (I could see all of the battles being set out across episodes switching between them in a similar way to in the battle part of the Soul Society arc of Bleach, perhaps), but we are used to Re:Zero being told in a way where Subaru is always present (except for in parts of arc 4 where it is Emilia's PoV instead) and we see things unfold mostly as he does. Arc 5 therefore has that feeling that everything has expanded out, but as i said in the video, it does keep the same feel of learning things alongside Subaru because it only shows us the PoV of Subaru's allies, so the things we find out happened are all things he would be told about. It doesn't switch to what the sin archbishops are thinking or doing, so we ultimately don't end the arc with too much consequential information that Subaru doesn't have, therefore keeping the general integrity of the way the mysteries are being told.

I liked the: *spoilers, ofc* Subaru's speech Reinhard, Subaru and Emilia defeating Regulus (by using Subaru's deductions) Kurgan vs Garfiel Thereasis vs Whilhelm (and her baclstory, and als the family reunion) RBD used only thrice
My ranking of the arcs would be 6, 4, 2, 5, 3, 1. And then I love even arc 1. ^_^ Skating E+S in arc 5 is so rewarding: Twirl, twirl! Also quite weird that I place 3 so low, even though it contains some of my favorite moments.. This series is just so great!
Arc 5 is probably my least favorite but watching this video actually made me appreciate it more. Also after taking a look at the changes made in the LN version I’ll probably like it more.
(Havent watched the video yet) but here's my thoughts on arc 5. It is amazing, but the awesomeness will be saved for the animation. It's a spectacle, unlike arc 6 and 4 whuch are more dialogue/story driven. That's why arc 4 and 6 are godlike in the web novel while arc 5 has the potential to be a masterpiece animated, it sort if reminds me of the battle against white whale in that respect
Arc 5 was the least frustrating, as ART I don't know if it was quite so intricate a masterpiece, but Arc 5 was just so delicious and easily "consumable" for a fan.
arc 4 is considered the "best" of the arcs we have till now and arc 6 jumped up there with its perfect 2nd half.....that said ,arc 5 is the most "consistant" arc we have!if arc 4 starts at 10/10 then drops at 7/10 and quiqly goes to 9/10 for the most part to end with a 10/10......arc 6 starts at 6/10 and slowly goes up to reach 9/10 at the half point to get that 10/10 at the "stand up!" moment and keeps it till the end! arc 5 is a 9/10 from beging to end (with alot...and i mean a lot,of 10/10 "moments") it manages to show us that every side character can be the mc in his/hers own story and imo tepeis writing its at its peak thru out the arc!i think that the only reason ppl mention the other arcs more often is cause arc 5 doesnt give us huge questions like the others... ps arc 5 needs more than 24 eps!!!it needs at least 36 eps and more if they can fully flesh out every event/character!
I was wondering whether the Liliana POV stuff was in the LN, since everyone tends to hate reading it and Tappei said writing her chapters made him feel like he was getting dumber haha! I was thinking it would be better in the anime either way, because her POV could be shown without reading her voice, but I did wonder if he'd take them out altogether. I think all of the weird POV chapters in arc 4 weren't in the LN (which is a shame, I thought it was cool to have the chapter from the POV of the Guiltylow!). I have only read the web novel though, and of course, arc 5 in the LN isn't available officially in English so most people here have only read the WN for arc 5.
I just finished reading Arc 5 of the LN. It was a great Arc for sure. But with all the action it might better work as a Anime. What I would like to know is the state of Subaraus right leg. Is it still cursed by the dragon blood? He seems to have no trouble walking tough.
Ahhhhh, no, that's not what is going on here - I wouldn't spoil something like Subaru and Emilia getting married in a thumbnail! We do get to see Emilia fighting in a wedding dress, but it's not part of the romance plot!

I was honestly a bit confused over that Subaru didn't right away go and tried to commit suicide the moment Emilia got taken away. Though it has been a while since arc 4 and I don't know if Subaru did decide on not redoing things then when he was meeting the witches or something like that.
If I would rank the arcs it would be (spoilers for each arc) 6: arc 1 (Subaru's first deaths, we learn the characters and got some nice battles with Elsa. But subaru was extremely annoying and somewhat dumb.) 5: arc 2 (still awesome, especially subaru suicide death, but the other arcs are way to good) 4: arc 6 (I know, Subaru's amnesia was good for his character development, but he was arc 1 subaru all over again. This basically destroyed my opinion of the arc especially after the awesome Julius vs Reid moment or a deeper look into meilis character) 3: arc 5 (Just like you said in this video, arc 5 is underrated. Subaru speech was one of the top 3 re zero moments and the spotlight on best boy Wilhelm and Garfiel are awesome. But fight scenes in a novel. I don't think fight scenes in light/web novels are really God. You can't see them and must imagine them. Based on how the anime will adapt this arc, this arc will be ranked higher) 2: arc 3 (subaru stopped being a a**hole and got put down at his place. Especially after he got arrogant because of his accomplishments. We learn to know new characters with the royal election and we see subaru being a human and overcome his insanity. Betelgeuse was one of the best villains giving the reader/watcher fear everytime he shows up) 1: arc 4 (witches, awesome character development for subaru and Emilia, beako leaving the library and Elsa as a antagonist.)
I rank them 4, 5, 6, 3, 1, 2, but sometimes the top 3 change around depending on what plotlines I'm most interested in at the time haha. But, I do tend to be someone that always likes the beginning of stories less than the parts when some of the mysteries start to pay off and we're deep into things, so it's not really that 1 and 2 aren't good - I can't really think of many things where I like the prologue better than the story!

Eeeek, well, 5 and 6 are both a lot shorter than 4, and personally I think it would be possible to cover both in a 2 cour season, buuuut I tend not to say this too often because most people would *prefer* that each arc got its own season and so could be adapted in as much detail as possible.
By underrated I just mean that it's talked about a lot less than arcs 4 and 6 - I don't think there are many people who don't like arc 5, it just gets overshadowed a lot in discussions!
I personally don't believe Arc 5 is underrated as the people I know who love Re: Zero like me thouroughly enjoy Arc 5 and it being my 2nd favorite Arc where Arc 4 and 6 contesting for 1st place.
It's been a year and still no season 3 announcement, only rumors. I'm sad😔 For web novel readers : Should I check arc 5 in the web novel? I read arc 4 after the anime but considering season 3 seems far off right now I was thinking about reading it. Some people tho told me arc 5 has a streach of chapters that they literally didn't have the mental capacity to read because of how bad they were told so I'm a little scared about that.
Those chapters are in the web novel, they were changed in the light novels - I'm not sure how far into arc 5 the English translations of the light novels are though, as I've only read the WN myself. They're not that bad that they should put you off reading it though, they're just told in the voice of a character that most people find a bit annoying.

The anime adapts the light novels, not the web novel, and arc 4 of the web novel was changed a lot more than the other arcs for the light novels (because it was insanely long in the WN). The anime did skip some important stuff even from the LNs, but if you've only read the WN it will seem like whole loops were cut or merged together. I would say if you're just interested in what happens next, you can go straight for arc 5. I didn't read arcs 1-3 myself until after reading 4 and 5 (it was before season 2 came out), and it wasn't really a problem - there are lots of subtle differences but the one you really need to know about to follow arc 5 is just the Al one.
The fact that Subaru died only 3 times and he did so much to save everyone this is probably the coolest arc
Yeah, wasn't the checkpoint 15 mins before the first attack ? I'm honestly surprised that he didn't loop, considering the fact Emilia got kidnapped but he was dying by the end of the fight, so I guess he wouldn't mind either way.

He really impressed me in this arc! He didnt loop once for most of it, and that speech was great. Also him shutting his mouth in the meeting where they wanted to focus on Crush was gold.
And for me this is why it kind of hurts that subaru will lose his memories in arc 6 and effectively reset, finally after he becomes the person he always wanted to be. But I can see why it happened becayse it deffaintly spices things up
Hard agree, arc 5 is hella underrated. Subaru's big speech legit makes me tear up every time I read it. And there are just so many cool fight scenes that will really get a chance to shine in season 3.

I have always that issue deciding which i prefer between arc 3 and 5 .
Arc 6 > Arc 4 >>> Arc 5 = Arc 3 > Arc 1/2 ( i bundle them together ).
Arc 5 and 3 both have one of my favorite moment ( Subaru's speech in arc 5 and the second part of episode 15 in arc 3 ).
Arc 4 has the best chapter in the whole serie , and my favorite moment ever : Choose me.
Arc 6 has the most epic come back ever , i won't spoil it.
It's a tough one , i really can't decide.
I haven't read Arc 6, but I know its incredible, My personal order would be Arc 1/2

Arc 5 explores more of the psychology of Emilia Tan.
Arc 4 explores the complexity of Echidna and Subaru relationship on the concept of Greed.
Arc 5 is written to focus over the concept of notion of lust and envy.
Arc 5 explores the greed concept and how the characters see the different perspectives of the characters.
It goes to the concept of the idea of committing a human sin.
While deconstructing the meaning of a cardinal sin and religious belief's.
Arc 5 is the best arc of all, Subaru and reinhardt teaming up ( Emilia too at points) (not to throw less Emilia but for chapter reason she has her own moments) was amazing! Subaru beat the 2nd strongest character literally by himself by out thinking him and finding out his weakness, even sticks his tongue out at him lmao subaru showed us in arc 5 that he had conquered all of his greed and sins (mostly) to be the average isekai hero ( usually in their respective arc 1 heroeness) but even Reinhard could not have beaten regulus without subaru finding out his weakness, but Emilia did help a super lot and though I don't want to take away from her, Subaru is the only one who was piecing everything together and even tappei said so but not In the way mention it lol it's so good of a arc! Everyone was so good. What was your favorite part of the arc? Mine was when julius, felix, Wilhelm and others recalled arc 3 and subarus achievements lol
There are so many amazing scenes in this arc but I especially love getting to see Priscilla actually fight, Emilia's scene with the wives, Subaru's speech, the whole of everything involved in fighting Capella, and Regulus' death as it was in the web novel (most crazy death of the series so far!).

I think the thing with Liliana is, even though she is really annoying, she's kind of intentionally annoying, and it doesn't feel like we're being forced to like her - all of the other characters find her annoying too. She also makes for an interesting way to present Priscilla's fight which is one of the coolest fights in the arc in my opinion - I guess they had to pair my best girl Priscilla up with the worst character just to give everyone else a chance! But I think the team up of Subaru, Reinhard and Emilia is something pretty special to see, as well. Plus, having Beatrice out of action for Subaru's fight (though still getting to do some cool stuff on her own later on) was good, to remind us that he's gotten stronger even without having Beako to work with. There are just so many awesome things in arc 5!

I don't think that would be unreasonable compared with other anime. It's quite a lot shorter than arc 4 too so it will be interesting to see whether they go for less episodes or just cut nothing out (and maybe add in some of the stuff cut from arc 3...)

If season 3 gets made then season 4 is guaranteed, arc 5 has all the action most mainstream anime have. I've always liked arc 5 for its potential to make more hype for the anime.

Arc 5 is basically a shounen anime arc it's focused on action, But it's in re:zero which made it 10× better for me, Re:zero is well known for it's emotional torture on weebs but arc 5 is some breath of fresh air which balances things out, I'm not saying it's better than 6 or 4 but I think it will shine as anime.

I love arc five, love it more than six.
1. Both Subaru and Emilia are great in this arc.
2. In retrospect Sirius is a great character, that I'm really excited to know more about. I don't believe the most popular theory about her, I think it's an even more spectacular reveal waiting to happen.
3. Ana and Echidna was such a twist. I remember how Anastasia introduces herself in season one as being a greedy gal. So good
4. Priscilla was also amazing, really turn my perception around about her. Sure she is still a bitch, but she is a bad bitch.

I agree with you about 1, 3 and 4 (especially 4 - I love Priscilla so much after arc 5), but for 2, I do agree she is a great character but I can't really think what else her identity could be other than the popular theory. Now, who is giving out witch factors, and naming people after stars from earth? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say it was Flugel. If it is true, then Sirius knew him personally, but when Pete absorbed Sloth he mentioned Flugel like he was already gone “I beg you forgive me, Flugel-sama.”

These are two big assumptions, granted, but I conclude that Sirius became who she is before Pandora and Regulus invaded Elior forest. With the obvious exception of time travel, it's chronologically impossible for Sirius to be who most people assume she is.
So, who is she? No idea. But I think that beneath those bandages lies the same face that Emilia and Satella share. All three of them being different people.
Some hints:
1. Hair and eye color is an obvious reason.
2. Speech patterns when she isn't consumed by rage and psychopatic tendencies, she is clearly shy and introverted and has some very Emilia like lines "Gosh, honestly. Please excuse me, I’m very sorry" / "“Thank you. I really only need just a little bit of it, so please let me borrow your time.” / "- Alright! That’s enough!” / "However, thank you all for your attention. I’m very happy" / "I’m very sorry to take up everyone’s precious time. Sorry, and thank you" / "My head isn’t too good, [...] and I feel very guilty" - Arc 5 chapters 18,19. Also her yandere side is familiar [Sirius: “I’ve always been waiting for only you… my dear, dear Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti!” - arc 5 chapter 25] is very similar to [Satella: “You-only you-will I always, always be in love with.” -arc 4 chapter 77]
Reason one is very flimsy, and reason two could be totally wrong due to how translating from Japanese to English loses a lot of meaning, or is polluted by translators who do not know what subtleties to look for. The last reason is one that gives me chills whenever I read or think about it...
3. Arc 5 Chapter 76: "Subaru stopped in his tracks due to an unpleasant sensation that grated against his skull just when they were about to reach the entrance [...] ――Just before leaving the room, he'd realised that [Sirius] was humming. / She was out of tune, her pitch and rhythm were both in a state of chaos. This dissonance didn't come to a stop there. [...] Her [song] was something more eerie, and distorted."

OK this is awesome and I love it. Maybe, if my Emilia is a clone theory is true, there have been other Satella clones Echidna created at the request of, idk, maybe Satella, maybe Flugel, and Sirius could have been one who went wrong after being given the witch factor of wrath. I'd literally just gone along with the 'she's Fortuna turned into Sirius by Pandora' theory, because that too would explain her similarities to Emilia (being her aunt) and her love for Petelgeuse. There's loads of crackpot stuff that can be done with this idea, too, like, maybe that's why Petelgeuse loved Satella - because he was actually in love with a clone of her, them perhaps having both been created at the same time, and that's why he took so much of an interest in child Emilia, in a strange way thinking of her as a kind of daughter of the woman he loved. Maybe there was never anything romantic between him and Fortuna at all, it was just what child Emilia, who wanted parents, chose to see, or maybe there was, but it was after Sirius had gone mad, and that is why Sirius keeps talking about 'that woman' and Emilia - she actually hates Fortuna. Idk, there's a lot of possibilities. I like this theory a lot!

This ARC is full of my favorite fights: Garfiel vs Kurgan, Wilhelm rematch with his wife, Subaru and Reinhard double team Greed and otto, felt and Beactrice fight off one of the gluttonys. Subaru's speech and his knowledge of stars helped take out greed. Greed time stop powers were lit.
Subaru's speech got me jumping around while yelling, "LET'S GOOOO THAT'S WHAT WE LIKE TO SEE BUAYBYYYY"

Sure, Arc 04 is the best and Arc 06 has a wonderful message that Tappei is trying to conceive. But what makes Arc 05 is special is that it's so different and it's a Far-cry from what the audience typically expects from Re:Zero.
Which is genius way of subverting expectations from the *MADMAN* Tappei Nagatsuki.
Asking the question *"What if... Subaru didn't die every 3 chapters?"* and this Arc solidifies what Satella told Subaru to *LOVE HIMSELF* and not rely on RBD. Instead, relying on those around him. That started from Otto's gamble against the odds from Arc 04.
Seeing everyone work together towards a common goal, their different Perspectives that doesn't only focus on just the Emilia Camp. *More Wilhelm in my life is always a great thing* My most respected character in all of anime. Julius being more likable even though I know the reasons why he beat up Subaru in Arc 03 just to protect him. Seeing Priscilla in a new light along with Al.
*AND MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!* Subaru being very humble and compassionate that other characters get annoyed or weirded out of. A huge change in character from the previous Arc's.
And yes, I'm in the minority that *GENUINELY* likes Liliana as a character and I'm very excited to see her anime debut. (NOT SARCASM) People get annoyed from her but don't takes a closer look why she's acts that way. Her backstory made me even like her more and understand why she's like that. A shame that not a lot of people notice that.
my humble opinion is that if you as a person have siblings you get used to annoying people and find her adorable, while if you havent find her annoying. ;)

@@NatalieXHunter I think the reason arc 5 isn’t talked about is because it’s right after arc 4 and before arc 6 and because we’ve had arc 6 for the pass 3 years now and because it wasn’t finished it took up a lot of speculation and arc 4 is right when the anime ended so it’s the starting point for a lot of fans. It also progressed the characters more than any arc before it. This isn’t to say arc 5 is bad but it does explain why it’s over looked

The thing about arc 5 that i think is going on is that it's a "moment" heavy arc. Like it has these amazing moments that get you excited more so than other arcs which makes them memorable, but the narrative thread is stronger in arcs 4 and 6. That's of course not to say that arc 5 is bad but after finishing arc 6 it falls just short of arc 4 & 6. Also I was thinking about this before in another video in that arc5 doesn't feel very re:zero-ey mainly because subaru doesn't die alot (which is not bad thematically , from lessons learned from arc4 ) but it does feel out of place and the type of arc that you'd see in a standard shounen anime.

Personally, I wouldn't even rank Arc 5 among the arcs because it deserves its own category all together since so many characters are being focused on. It's like trying to compare Infinity War & Endgame with individual movies of the MCU franchise. It's a different tone in a sense that it ended with lasting consequences: civilian casualties, Julius and a lot of others got their names or memories eaten, basically disable Crusch, Anastasia's body taken over, civilians got their bodies morphed and now in suspended animation and worst of all, the Astreas' fallout. Usually Subaru would die a certain number of times to achieve a very high payoff at the very end of an arc but Arc 5 really flipped that concept over its head. Although Subaru didn't die much (even though those 3 deaths were horrific), the arc ended in a melancholic nature rather than the usual satisfaction you'll get after all the suffering. I remember ending Arc 5 just depressed and fearful for the future.
So yeah, Arc 5 deserves its own spot and shouldn't be compared with the others.
Yeah, some good points there. I suspect arc 7 might end up being a war arc, which could have a similar kind of structure, after the very internal, Subaru focused arc 6. Arcs 4 and 6 focused on major revelations and Subaru, whereas arc 5 is more about plot developments and the cast as a whole, so I think 7 might go in a similar direction and be very eventful for everybody concerned.

The other difference between Subaru and Roswall is that Roswall will actively arrange events to kill others, including people he cares about, to reach his goal. While I have more visceral disgust for what he does to Ram in Arc 4, Roswall knew that could be undone. In Oni sisters of the hidden village he knowingly sacrifices people close to him to reach a goal.
I didn't even read Arc 5 yet, but with the amount of fights in it, Arc 5 has the potential to be the best arc in the anime adaptation if it's animated right, atleast visually.

I'm a little bit late, but I find the thing about Subaru making sacrifices really interesting
The way I see it is that Subaru thinks that dying is losing everything, like, of course there's the possibility of RbD being time travel, in which case it becomes really unfair for people dying because of Sirius (the people in a comma and transformed into monsters aren't actually dead, and also Subaru has too many worries, like a possible butterfly effect killing even more people, or the save point being already updated, so I don't think it is that unfair, as they still have hope), but if RbD really is parallel universes (which Subaru can't completely rule out), then him dying is leaving everyone else behind to die, or worse, he knows that even if everything goes right and they still win, people like (specially) Betty will just be heartbroken by his death, and maybe she won't be able to carry on living, and there's a lot of people who will cry for him, and that is if things go right, because if not then he could very well be dooming the whole country, or even world (might be a bit extreme, but if the city of Priestella were to be inundated by the archbishops and Regulus were to be set loose... Well, Lugunica would most likely lose all of its candidates, and a whole lot of people would suffer even worst destinies than those in the bunkers), so as I see it, Subaru not killing himself for the people in the bunkers is more him being scared of causing even more pain and suffering than he would prevent, and also him accepting that he can't save everybody, specially he can't save everybody by condemning everyone that he wishes to save... Though that's just how I see it, I might be wrong, or misinterpreting things, but oh well, I really liked the video, thanks for bringing out the underappreciated Arc, as I really feel like Arc 5 needs more love :)

Regulus(Greed) powers are kinda like this.
It's less akin to a cut or explosion and more him giving an object infinite inertia, or at least that's the best way I've heard it described.
Inertia is the resistance an object has to its velocity changing. When Regulus makes a barrier by "stopping its time", the air around him basically just becomes completely unaffected by any outside force, it's velocity of zero never changing no matter how much force is applied.
When Regulus throws air blades or rocks at people they basically continue to move forward at the same velocity no matter what force is applied to it, which is shown by even the reactant force of reinhard being unable to halt its velocity.
I think it also sets the stage for future events too for arc 6-7 so that’s important with all the changes that happened and need to be fixed
Arc 5 is the only arc that has no character development for Subaru , because it's main purpose is to show what he already has achieved. If arc 1-4 were lessons , arc 5 is an exam where Subaru goes all out and shows all of his growth

i think that arc5 gives us some very important information about rbd, since in this arc the checkpoint was set around 15 minutes in the past, meaning that there is a limit in the number of people that can be affected by it as well as the area of effect; while the area could be potentially larger than a city, the number seems to be related on how much time skip is possible fro the checkpoint to be made. In any other arc the checkpoint could go from hours to days before death, only in this one its a matter of minutes instead. We also see how the more subaru is under the effect of an authority in terms of time, the more he is able to be accostomed to it and resist it for more time, just like we read in the ln against petelgeuse possession (from 5sec to 2minutes). We also see an important advantage that there is when you fight an archbishop, since every one of them has behaviour based on their sin its possible to take advantage of it while fighting them, as we see with regulus.
I don't think it means that, personally. I think RBD takes Subaru back to the last 'safe' point in what he did, where he still has a chance to do something to avoid his own death. Satella only cares about saving Subaru, not about giving him the ability to save others - that's just how he chooses to use his powers. Subaru returns to the park 15 minutes before Sirius' attack because he was safe there, and could easily keep himself from being exposed to the threat of death by just not going to where he knows the incident will occur. It was made pretty clear in arc 4 that from the witch's perspective, Subaru wasn't given this ability to be a hero, just to keep himself alive, and the checkpoint in arc 5 really highlights how this can work against him when he actually does want to save people.
I don't think there is an area of effect for RBD - otherwise it would mean there were places that were literally days behind other places in the world. I think RBD affects the whole world.

I am a light novel reader and I just finished reading the 14th vuloum of re zero and I can't wait for the other half to come out. I also can't wait to see arc 5 to be animated because I heard a few things that will happen in arc 5 plus I also can't wait for the light novels version of arc 5 so I can read it I can see a season 3 of re zero happening at least late 2021 or somewhere near 2022 since arc 5 is done for both web novels and light novels and once season 3 is done airing I won't be surprised that we will get a season 4 as well

I can see the Garfiel ship and it would make sense considering their heritage. Hopefully action is well animated. Also kind of sad what happened to Garfiel and his mom. I wonder if he will rectify their relationship in the future or if it will conclude as is. Also apparently Garfiel also crossdressses and is supposed to appear in arc 7 so it would be interesting if him and Subaru both dressed up lol
Its not that i hate this garfiel ship, but the fact tappei felt to include a back up for ram basically guarantees they wont be together in my opinion, which makes rams fate somewhat tied to roswaal, and considering he wasnt totally redeemed, he is just neutral now, and did some really questionable things for echidna, i think he will relapse into doing bad stuff.
And when this happens Ram, particularly considering how we dont connect as deeply with her as an audience than emilia or Rem and she has the oni goddess thing going on, becomes a prime target for an unreversible sacrifice in the main cast , and i'm basically sure Rams days are numbered =(.
Greed's time stop ability was awesome, Greed may be insanely evil, but you have to admit that his powers are pretty cool! Turning ordinary water, gravel, blood, or even breath into a deadly weapon.

I loved arc 5 as well, current 3rd on my top 4 rezero arcs, however the liliana chapters were incredibly painful to read through
I mean I wish he had died just a bit more during that arc but oh well, I mean I feel like there were too many deaths in arc 6 so it kinda evens out.
arc 6 has that one chapter where he dies like 20 times, so yeah, I guess it does balance itself out!

And Garfiel, I cant begin to imagine the pain he went through in this arc, learning that his mother is survived the landslide, forgetting everything including Garfiel and the time she had in the sanctuary, found a new husband and have new kids which is Garfiel's Half Blood Siblings, confronting them all at once, even though every second passed he endured every pain in that moment, rather than lashing out he endured it and he still helps her mother's husband even though everytime he interacts with them, he feels pain but still continues to help them...

Oh wow , I dont know that so many people hate Lilliana , I don't dislike her nor like her either , she's there that all . It's Doesnt change the fact that how cool Subaru is in this arc , that speech tho .
I find it really hard to think about Arc 5, because events are happening are a record pace, and they are presented in a fragmented arrangement so that each is progressing roughly simultaneously. Now this is how a more "traditional" story, like say the journey in Narnia "The Horse and his Boy", would be written, but it makes me confused because this is a serious departure from Re:Zero's normal progression pattern.
That's the thing - Re:Zero doesn't really have a normal progression pattern, and each arc from 3 onwards (1 and 2 have a similar 'Subaru must use RbD to solve mysteries and prevent something' structure, but together they are kind of an extended prologue) has its own identity and feel, in the way RbD is used, in who it focuses on, in the pacing, in really everything. Arc 5 is more traditional in some ways from an anime perspective (I could see all of the battles being set out across episodes switching between them in a similar way to in the battle part of the Soul Society arc of Bleach, perhaps), but we are used to Re:Zero being told in a way where Subaru is always present (except for in parts of arc 4 where it is Emilia's PoV instead) and we see things unfold mostly as he does. Arc 5 therefore has that feeling that everything has expanded out, but as i said in the video, it does keep the same feel of learning things alongside Subaru because it only shows us the PoV of Subaru's allies, so the things we find out happened are all things he would be told about. It doesn't switch to what the sin archbishops are thinking or doing, so we ultimately don't end the arc with too much consequential information that Subaru doesn't have, therefore keeping the general integrity of the way the mysteries are being told.
My favourite part of this arc so far is when Subaru starts to touch the wounds of Crusch. I don't know why, but this part is so lovely for me

(Havent watched the video yet) but here's my thoughts on arc 5. It is amazing, but the awesomeness will be saved for the animation. It's a spectacle, unlike arc 6 and 4 whuch are more dialogue/story driven. That's why arc 4 and 6 are godlike in the web novel while arc 5 has the potential to be a masterpiece animated, it sort if reminds me of the battle against white whale in that respect

Arc 5 was the least frustrating, as ART I don't know if it was quite so intricate a masterpiece, but Arc 5 was just so delicious and easily "consumable" for a fan.
arc 4 is considered the "best" of the arcs we have till now and arc 6 jumped up there with its perfect 2nd half.....that said ,arc 5 is the most "consistant" arc we have!if arc 4 starts at 10/10 then drops at 7/10 and quiqly goes to 9/10 for the most part to end with a 10/10......arc 6 starts at 6/10 and slowly goes up to reach 9/10 at the half point to get that 10/10 at the "stand up!" moment and keeps it till the end!
arc 5 is a 9/10 from beging to end (with alot...and i mean a lot,of 10/10 "moments")
it manages to show us that every side character can be the mc in his/hers own story and imo tepeis writing its at its peak thru out the arc!i think that the only reason ppl mention the other arcs more often is cause arc 5 doesnt give us huge questions like the others...
ps arc 5 needs more than 24 eps!!!it needs at least 36 eps and more if they can fully flesh out every event/character!

I was wondering whether the Liliana POV stuff was in the LN, since everyone tends to hate reading it and Tappei said writing her chapters made him feel like he was getting dumber haha! I was thinking it would be better in the anime either way, because her POV could be shown without reading her voice, but I did wonder if he'd take them out altogether. I think all of the weird POV chapters in arc 4 weren't in the LN (which is a shame, I thought it was cool to have the chapter from the POV of the Guiltylow!). I have only read the web novel though, and of course, arc 5 in the LN isn't available officially in English so most people here have only read the WN for arc 5.
I just finished reading Arc 5 of the LN. It was a great Arc for sure. But with all the action it might better work as a Anime. What I would like to know is the state of Subaraus right leg. Is it still cursed by the dragon blood? He seems to have no trouble walking tough.

I was honestly a bit confused over that Subaru didn't right away go and tried to commit suicide the moment Emilia got taken away. Though it has been a while since arc 4 and I don't know if Subaru did decide on not redoing things then when he was meeting the witches or something like that.
If I would rank the arcs it would be

6: arc 1 (Subaru's first deaths, we learn the characters and got some nice battles with Elsa. But subaru was extremely annoying and somewhat dumb.)
5: arc 2 (still awesome, especially subaru suicide death, but the other arcs are way to good)
4: arc 6 (I know, Subaru's amnesia was good for his character development, but he was arc 1 subaru all over again. This basically destroyed my opinion of the arc especially after the awesome Julius vs Reid moment or a deeper look into meilis character)
3: arc 5 (Just like you said in this video, arc 5 is underrated. Subaru speech was one of the top 3 re zero moments and the spotlight on best boy Wilhelm and Garfiel are awesome. But fight scenes in a novel. I don't think fight scenes in light/web novels are really God. You can't see them and must imagine them. Based on how the anime will adapt this arc, this arc will be ranked higher)
2: arc 3 (subaru stopped being a a**hole and got put down at his place. Especially after he got arrogant because of his accomplishments. We learn to know new characters with the royal election and we see subaru being a human and overcome his insanity. Betelgeuse was one of the best villains giving the reader/watcher fear everytime he shows up)
1: arc 4 (witches, awesome character development for subaru and Emilia, beako leaving the library and Elsa as a antagonist.)
I rank them 4, 5, 6, 3, 1, 2, but sometimes the top 3 change around depending on what plotlines I'm most interested in at the time haha. But, I do tend to be someone that always likes the beginning of stories less than the parts when some of the mysteries start to pay off and we're deep into things, so it's not really that 1 and 2 aren't good - I can't really think of many things where I like the prologue better than the story!
ngl i kinda think ships take away from a story cause it distracts people from whats really going on, for instance how most people started hating subaru after he rejected rem even though that was such a good character moment for rem and subaru too bro, and thats why i think shipping is dumb, it brings more harm than good

Eeeek, well, 5 and 6 are both a lot shorter than 4, and personally I think it would be possible to cover both in a 2 cour season, buuuut I tend not to say this too often because most people would *prefer* that each arc got its own season and so could be adapted in as much detail as possible.

I read arc 4 after the anime but considering season 3 seems far off right now I was thinking about reading it.
Some people tho told me arc 5 has a streach of chapters that they literally didn't have the mental capacity to read because of how bad they were told so I'm a little scared about that.
Those chapters are in the web novel, they were changed in the light novels - I'm not sure how far into arc 5 the English translations of the light novels are though, as I've only read the WN myself. They're not that bad that they should put you off reading it though, they're just told in the voice of a character that most people find a bit annoying.

Should I read arc 1-3 or not?
Reading arc 4 I noticed a lot of things got cut or abridged in the anime.
Was the same true for season 1?
The only thing I know for sure the anime skipped was Al being like Subaru.
The anime adapts the light novels, not the web novel, and arc 4 of the web novel was changed a lot more than the other arcs for the light novels (because it was insanely long in the WN). The anime did skip some important stuff even from the LNs, but if you've only read the WN it will seem like whole loops were cut or merged together. I would say if you're just interested in what happens next, you can go straight for arc 5. I didn't read arcs 1-3 myself until after reading 4 and 5 (it was before season 2 came out), and it wasn't really a problem - there are lots of subtle differences but the one you really need to know about to follow arc 5 is just the Al one.
