Glad you are doing well after surgery. Go ahead and make sizes down as you go then when you put it on you’ll smile at your progress. Well wishes and enjoy your vacation ❤️
I love making bags in the summer. You can never have too many bags. Use them to carry your shopping, you can work up some gift bags for some special people in your life. Plus, as I'm sure you know, kids love having a special bag to carry toys etc. I remember the days of needing regular breaks from being someone's mom all the time. I have 4 kids ages 17, 14, 8, and 5. The 3 youngest are all boys. My daughter is the first born and she helps me out in so many ways. This past school year was the first time in 17 years that I didn't have a young child at home with me during the school day. It was wonderful. I love all my children and I treasure my time with each one. However, I didn't realize that I just didn't ever make time for myself to be alone or at least give myself a little time where I was not caring for children. At the same time, I am constantly reminded that I am going through a lot of "first" for the last time. My youngest just lost his first baby tooth. Even though I have experienced this 3 times before, this time was completely different and amazing.
Hi Rachel I’ve been watching you for a while now and love to hear you talk about yarn, cracks me up the way you smell it and squish it against your face like many of us do. I am so inspired by your journey I am thickish but I’ve never had surgery and wish you all the best. Don’t feel bad about not posting so much as you get busy because there are so many great past posts I can watch and re-watch to keep me entertained. You are amazing ❤thank you for all you do. I have too many projects going to list right now but I mostly make baby blankets and beanies since my three-month-old son passed away it has been my coping mechanism and brings me joy. Keep calm and yarn on 🤘
Hi Sharon! Nice to meet you and thank you for your encouraging words. ❤️ I was feeling rather down today because I want to get back to more Yarny things, but just don't have the time right now. 😢 BUT, I am thankful for the journey I am on and hopeful for what comes next! And I am so very sorry for your loss. 💔 Crochet and yarn crafts can be wonderfully healing. Praying for your peace tonight! ❤️❤️❤️
@@YarnatPlay Thank you for your reply that is so incredibly sweet! My loss was many years ago and I know he’s in a good place but I have oodles of yarn & in between knit crochet knitting machines circular needles looming and all the patterns and great RUclips tutorials I have found a happy place. What does a girl do with all this yarn she can’t stop buying? Donate items which brings even more joy so I challenge all your watchers to pick a charity each year and give from the heart. Love to all
Hi Rachel. Wow enjoy the UP. I’m in Southgate Michigan and go to the UP often and love it. My car travel projects are kitchen cotton dishcloths, kitchen scrubbies, and I like building up my stash of winter projects for my grandkids. I love the kids Delaney hat and kids keyhole scarf and knit slippers for my grandkids. So nice to see you again honey. I always look forward to seeing you stay positive and happy that’s what life is all about. Good luck with your Bariatric surgery. My niece had it done and is doing fabulous and loves the results and is so much happier
Your garment will be so nice! 😊 Granny squares are so fun AND popular right now! On vacation maybe it would be fun to make a set of small baskets or a set of ornaments or some amigurumi 😊😊😊 Thanks for posting! I'm following your bariatric journey too!
Bag O Day has a. couple of sun hat patterns that use cotton and 4 weight yarn. Also Steele's the show&chef has a Granny Square bucket hat that's uses cotton. Just a few suggestions. I've made a couple of bags that I can use for groceries and stuff instead of plastic. I enjoy watching your videos! So glad you're here! A vacation in the UP sounds so very nice! Enjoy! Take care and stay safe!
What about a nice large beach bag? My go to, is usually a shawl when I don't know what to make. A bucket hat need not be made from stiff yarn, which may be more suitable for your hands. Good luck for your bariatric surgery. Will pray everything goes well for you and that you can achieve the goal you want to. 🙏🙏🌺🌺
Love your project already. My go to summer project is the one I’m currently making. I make what makes me happy. I’ve not made the same pattern multiple times as I like to keep learning new stitches, projects and challenges. Enjoy your vacation.
You should make a bucket hat! You can use something stiff but not as scratchy as hemp. I'm using lion brand jean. It works well because of the chainette style of yarn. Also a summer shawl would be awesome 😎
I make knitted hair scrunchies during the summer, and summer cardi's for babies. Keeps me busy. I look forward to getting home from work so I can knit.
I am making soap sacks for the shower and bath poufs, and face wash rounds for gifts. I am trying different soap sack patterns trying to find a pattern I think is perfect.. It’s fun! Next I am making a long duster for a gift . I also bought some beautiful Yarn art Flowers yarn for a beautiful airy shawl that I have the pattern picked out for. Have a great summer! Congrats on your weight loss surgery. That takes real grit. I should think about it too. But I know I won’t. Have a great summer.
I never thought I would go for surgery either, but it is definitely the best choice for me right now. 😊 Soap sacks sounds like a fun project! I should probably do that for vacation. Might make traveling easier.
I am hoping to make a lot of blankets for Christmas gifts, so working on them right now...not summer projects. I did crochet some cotton and bamboo seat covers for my beater truck last week, because my bright husband thought duct tape was the way to fix a rip in the seat. Not a great idea in Arizona sun.....took me forever to get all of that melted tape goo off!! Anyway triple strands of cotton blends made super durable seat covers with enough stretch to get them on snuggly. I like to crochet table runners with cotton and bamboo in the summer too. Your vacation sounds perfect, relax and enjoy !!
My go to project for summer is making tank tops and summer shirts and cardigans. I know that probably doesn’t help, but those are mine. Thanks for sharing!!! Have a great day!!!
Hi Rachel, I thought I would try thread crochet again after many years. I am 79 with some vision issues as well as a small hand tremor. It was just a challenge to myself. I not only found out I can still do it and I enjoy it too. Makers gotta make.
Hi Rachel. Good luck on your journey. I hope it goes well for you. It's not an easy one to take. I see, not stalking lol, that you are from Michigan. We are having a meet up tomorrow at Mich Fine Yarns if you would like to join us. June 3rd at 1pm EST. Holly from the Proper Pineapple and Dee from Dee's Creative Hands crochet will be there also. It would be lovely to meet you if you can make it.
Ugh! That sounds like so much fun Jen! I am in GR and will have all my kids and Livonia and too big of a trek for me and the whole crew. 😢 If you do another meet up, let me know so I can get a babysitter. 😊 My email is racheldegraff.crochet@gmail.com
I am doing well. Thanks for checking in! I went through weight loss surgery in September and things have been going well. It is just a big life adjustment and I have been giving myself time to get through that process. I have been working on projects and I have a list of things to film to get back into things after the new year. 😊
Glad you are doing well after surgery. Go ahead and make sizes down as you go then when you put it on you’ll smile at your progress. Well wishes and enjoy your vacation ❤️
Thanks, but I haven't had surgery quite yet. Hopefully I will be having my surgery in July or early August. 😊❤️
Oh, well I hope you do well. I must have had the volume to low. When the air comes on I can’t hear it as well 😉 🥰❤️

Hi Donna!! Good to hear from you! I absolutely love the UP. It has very strong emotional connections for me. Going up north feels like going home. 😊❤️

Anytime I have yarn in hand is the best part of my day. 😊

That’s cool and a great idea.
Have a great getaway
Thanks Bonnie!
I’m making the Japanese bags they are so fun.
Is that a crochet or knit pattern?

Good for you! My hands go numb so fast when I use light weight yarns! 😭
I’ve been thinking about you for a while now. I hope you and the family are doing well. 😘🙏🏼
