Artistry beyond compare. The genious of the author is complimented by the honest compassionate emotion of the narrator. Finest work I've ever experenced.

Absolutely admire the reader. I have tried to read the book many times but kept stopping as it is too thick and some French, Russian names. Listening to this, I am challenging to overcome my difficulties

Reader is Alexander Scourby. He originally recorded the book for the organization for books on tape for the blind. Libraries would lend the special phonograph player and the records to the library patrons who were blind. Scourby, reading “War and Peace” caused many, MANY, people to act blind, get phony documents saying they were blind and flailing through libraries waving white sticks. They were hell bent on hearing this man read this book. And if they had to be blind to get it, blind they’d be! (Pretend, of course.)
I agree, it was worth anything to get. Perfect match: Scourby & Tolstoy.
Scourby was a New York actor. Some of his acting work is here on RUclips. But he’s better as a reader. He’s a treasure.

I agree completely. Such a small number of views makes no sense. This is a great reading of possibly the greatest novel ever written.
