You guys are amazing. Thank you so much!!
OHHH YURRRRRR!!!
#metallica #reaction
Over in the guitar community, people are saying they don't like the solo. But that's fine..... for once, nobody's shitting on Lars, which is fucking great. For a shorter and more straightforward song like this, he played exactly what the song needed.
Yeah as a Guitar player I will say that solo is an absolute mess.
As a guitar player for 10 years, that solo is absolutely atrocious
Hammet: *pentatonics with whammy/slide abuse*
I like the solo. It’s not very technical at all, and it’s sloppy. But I have to compare it to HTSD and the solo is raw and angry sounding and fast. Great little solo to fill just a few measures in the middle of the song. Could it be better? Absolutely. But it really doesn’t sound bad at all. Sounds like a live solo but on an album which is cool to hear. And again, compared to HTSD, it’s great hearing Kirk play a solo like that again. It feels like he’s like FINALLY I can be released and just go wild with something. Not to mention, I really can’t fault Kirk for not being able to pioneer an iconic solo EVERY single song especially after SOOOO many songs they’ve made.
Kirk is recycling now.
People saying this is "pop" or "radio rock" are delusional. It's pure, old-school, British heavy metal. It's like an early Maiden, Motorhead, Diamond Head kind of sound.
Not delusional, most likely just comparing it to the standards of today. Had they made this song in the early eighties, it would be considered heavy as fuck.
@@Khazandar Yeah, it's like people are expecting Metallica to suddenly sound brutal. This song would be right at home on Kill Em All.
Well I haven't liked anything from Metallica in a long time but I definitely like this and that's saying a lot. I just hope the rest of the new album is good as this song or better.
Meh, people are going to bitch about this no matter what. Personally I thought it was great and if it turns a wider audience on to Metallica and the metal genres as a whole then surely that's a good thing.. right? I mean, it would be pretty inconsistent to spend all your time complaining about how the music you listen to is under appreciated and then start whining on social media when it gets huge amounts of airplay due to featuring in an enormously popular Netflix series. Surely no one would do that, right? 😏
Exactly. First thought was that it was old school.
Personally I think this is a very well crafted tribute to their old "mentors", like Judas Priest and Motorhead: it's easy to detect some similarities with songs like "Overkill" and "Rapid fire", but they were able to elaborate these former ingredients and mix them with their own style.. In addition to this I would like to underline the high quality of both mixing and production, the sound is astounding..
Thought the same
There's a lyrical nod to Diamond Head as well. Loving this track!
Told my buddy it sounds like a combo of overkill and their cover of the prince.
Said the exact same thing about the Overkill similarities on other reaction threads.
Good catch! I can imagine Lemmy singing to this track with his killer rickenbacker tone on bass 🤘
Did you not notice Lars playing his black album tour kit ?!?!?!?!? That’s so bad ass
It's the first thing I noticed ❤️
I don’t think it’s quite as big though. It looks like there’s only 3 cymbals, compared to at least 7 or 8 in the 90s
@@Milfcum6969 its the 1994-1995 kit
Always wondered would he have the kits in storage or something 🎉😊
Wasn't that the kit he used on AJFA?
The genuine smile you have says everything. I have been a fan for nearly 30 years and I was so happy when I heard this song and especially when I saw Lars playing the White kit with black hardware again. It brought back so many awesome memories.
I'm right there with you. I smiled the entire time and have been a fan for 30 years myself. Heck Lars is the reason I started playing the drums
@@schwanzmunster2503 Same here. I'll be a fan forever.
@@schwanzmunster2503 I too am a drummer because of Lars. I was in 3rd grade when the video debut of "One" hit MTV. Had to bug my parents for the next couple years to let me join the school band and learn to drum. Finally happened in 6th grade. Haven't stopped playing since!
@@schwanzmunster2503 Me too. People shit on Lars now, but the guy was an inspiration to so many up and coming drummers back in the day ... including me. There's so many better modern drummers out there, but most admit strong influence from Lars. This includes greats like Joey Jordison and my guy, the great Samus. Too boot, Lars's drum parts aren't always the easiest to learn! I remember many frustrating days trying to figure out his stuff. This was way before RUclips where you say, "Oh! That's how that fill goes." The previous generation presses the next to be better and that is a beautiful thing!
@@shakeykarma106 Exactly. I have an appreciation for Lars that many don't share. Of course there are many, many better drummers but, to your point, they all look at Lars as one of their influencers.
Such a classic speed metal vibe to it. Totally agree that they still have it. If the rest of the album has this same level of energy, it'll be fantastic.
Yea OK kid 👌
@@Annihilation_0f_The_Wicked9066 it does have a similar vibe, but it's production is what I think sets it more to radio rock that classic speed metal.
This is the cleanest Lars' drumming has sounded since Garage Inc.
Lars is practising every single day.
@@MegaTeostyle he'd have to be
on the hardwired album it's better
Fuck yeah!! I think his sons also have showed him some new things and shit!! 😁👌
Studio *magic*.
I really like and admire what a positive person you are. It was fun to listen to that with you.
thank you Robert!!
Agreed, not to name names but a lot of RUclipsrs are hating on the song seconds in and not even giving it a chance
@@BobRocksGuitar I didn't like the song the first time I listened to it, but "watching with Samus" really brought a lot of positivity and fun. I guess it is good to see such a cool guy happy and who wants to ruin that, right?
@@vicenteneto8430 For sure. When I first heard the song I wasn't all that into it, either. However, I gave it another chance and really got into it
This sounds a lot like the older albums. Feel a bit send back in time. Love it.
It really doesn't....
Garage Days.... revisited ... and Kill em All..revisited
Unfortunately ... They did nothing new with this song. It sounds like when they're started in 1982...
@@egcozinon which is exactly what those delusional boomers want, yet they complain.
Yep... as soon as I heard the opening riffs/song structure... it reminded me of the way they wrote back on Kill Em All (only a bit slower). This style of songwriting definitely has that 80's metal/hard rock sound to it. The production value obviously sounds current, especially the hints of the tuned chorus vocals, but that's all to be expected with modern studio techniques.
The overall recording sounds really good, it's really well produced. The actual track is awesome, tons of energy, the drums sound phat, and James sounds really good too. I'm super excited for this album (surprise). Just bought tickets to see them in Germany in 2 years!
do you already have a copy ?
He’s talking about the song y’a know? It’s pretty a given that the whole album production goes the same way.
Fucking love Metallica. Takes me back to high school days. They still got it. Enjoy them while we have them folks. They’re legends. Gonna miss them when they’re gone.
Love it. ‘Bout time for a new album🤘🏻. Pumped to hear some more
*Thank you for just listening to the song and liking it for what it is.. a good new Metallica song. I am so sick of some ppl saying "well it's alright but it's not the Master of Puppets or And Justice For All albums." No it's not 30+ years ago and anyone who's still waiting for that remake/redo/recreation should just get over it already. They moved on and so has their true fans. This song doesn't give me goosebumps and just blow me away, but it doesn't have to either. They've already done that 100 times over. They're 60 yrs old, still shredding out quality music and that's good enough for me. I don't need every song to be a rehash of my teenage years to still appreciate, recognize, and respect their ongoing musical talent. Oh and congrats to your boner again!* 🤣🤣🤣
The issue I've seen with some comments is that what you mentioned or "Nothing new". So in the end its really annoying as it seems there's no way out of it. So its either shitty because its not old metallica enough or shitty because its not new.
@@Fermonx Maybe they're two separate groups of people ;-) You can never satisfy everyone.
@@Fermonx That's it isn't it? "Krik's solo is trash." No, Kirk's solo fit the song. I thought it had character. It wasn't just 1000 pentatonics crammed into 9 seconds of music. And then they bitch about Lars. "He's so "sloppy". But on this song everyone is complaining "It's too clean". It's not him. It's a drum machine, he can't do those kicks live". Yes, playing live is different than in the studio. Live is a frikkin' marathon. In the studio you get multiple takes of the same parts, with breaks when needed. Endurance isn't a factor. What do they want? One take drum tracks that sound like shit, and then they can say "he sucks". Everyone is a critic yet 100% of them can't do what they do. That sounds more like jealousy, than objective opinions.
If you like this and your a Metallica fan you should know this is fucking trash
Well said Stephanie 😎🤘🏻
I like the subtle nods to other bands/albums in the lyrics. The Diamond Head/Lightning to the Nations got my attention immediately.
Lars was actually doing a couple gallops over the course of the song, ending the long kick parts with a gallop to cymbal. Simple little thing but was cool to hear Lars do something different for him anyway. :)

Oooooo I see. Thanks man
😂
0:05 Missed a prime opportunity to say "And nothing else matters"
But daddy Rexx, I like to set aside
I love the fact that Lars resurrected the old Granstar kit for this video. It's a representation of "the old Metallica" IMHO.
You gotta note the TAMA Artstar ii Lars is playing
There is nothing wrong with being happy about new Metallica. The song is fast, has an awesome riff, the drums drive the song along, and the theme is surprisingly upbeat.
They seem to be enjoying themselves playing and we should all be happy for and with them.
The drum line honestly gives out "The devil went down to Georgia" vibes, the Steve Ouimette version. it's so kick ass.
True lover of Metallica. You explaining it makes the song stand out better thanks
The thing that gets me most about the song, the thing that /really/ has me screaming is James' vocals like I am SHAKEN and I need to sing along 🎤
This is what I've been wanting to hear from Metallica for a while. Pure balls out thrash. 🤘🎸
finally found someone who mentioned Metal Militia ! as a listener and as a musician, this is a great review dude ! keep ‘em coming !
You can here that Lars is inspired of ex drummer Philthy Animal from Motorhead :)
It's amazing how these guys still play this well at age 60 and has a 2 years tour ready,
I mean love double bass drums from lars , but yeah this does has the kind of feeling
of an oldschool Metallica, I must say but i'm loving the journey and the ways they're
so different, from other bands "trying to play" .. they've always been their own,
and luckiely they succes :)
as a drummer i love playing stuff like this, simple warm up type stuff but with a fun jump to it and quick transitions and changes to keep your head in play
The main reason I love this song is because it’s finally something new after 6 FREAKING YEARS!!!
This reminds me of the stuff they did on the "side" around the black album. Garage dayz revisited, the Queen cover, etc
All the live stuff I'm been seeing from 2022 tells me that Metallica has never sounded better. GOATS.
3:11
Samus: This f*cking rules.
James: Yeah!
you don't know how happy it makes me to see you getting the viewership you deserve. I've been here since before you made the move to full time youtube and i love the vids!! oh yurrrrrr
thank you so much!!
BONUS VIDEO!! 66SAMUS Covering this track! Bring back the kill'em all vibes!!!!
This is the first song they've done in years that i like... 😎Oldschool dude here fan since ride the lightning. Met em all.. Including cliff.. rip
New Wave of British Heavy Metal and it sounds amazing. Lots of style from Motorhead to Merciful Fate, etc
Already have my tickets for the tour when they come to Edmonton. Can't wait! They still kick ass!
Love your reaction! I was excited, too! Killer song! Long live Metallica!
Phenomenal song. Kill ‘em all meets Motörhead and Priest. James sounds great too
Clip in the style of visualizations of the Winamp player. Great styling. The guys and their team did a great job. Returned to my 2000s.
Classic Heavy Metal vibes and I love it. The name of the album literally tells you they going oldschool with this new album.
I LOVE this new track! So excited to have them doing this at this level in 2022.
Now we need a drum cover for this song Mr. Samus... Do it!!!!
A TOTAL MASTERPIECE ALREADY!!! LOVE THIS BAND!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW RECORD!!! THIS SONG KICKS MAJOR ASS!!! KILLER VIDEO!!!🎼🤘🎸🥁🔥👍🍻😎
Ever heard of Annihilator?
Great song. Got my tickets for both show in Montreal, cant wait!!!
i recently bought this album these guys age like fine wine rockin bad ass record
It's great to hear that the production isn't brickwalled to hell and back. To be honest, the only weak part of the song is the chorus. Aside from that, it's a straight ahead, rocking tune. Can't wait to hear more. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
I love how you just enjoy the new music, not over analysing it like many other react video... (some even decide to hate it before hearing it)
Awesome 😎 love Metallica can’t wait for the new album my favourite band of all time🤟
I also got a big smile on my face when I heard the beginning of this song! Even the oldest most jaded Metallica fans gotta enjoy this one at least a bit.
It has a Breadfan-feel in parts. Pre- chorus. Sounds good!
This song really rips and I hope that Lars rocking the white drumkit isn't just for the video.
He changes the kit every album. What I’m hoping for is it wasn’t some lighting trick to make it look white when it’s actually yellow like the album haha
@@DillyDilly13 Oh, yeah... That could really be the case.
But Lars going back to the iconic white kit with black hardware would be sweet. Especially with the whole stage theme of Metallica being very much white over the last years.
@@irrsinnrainer I’m 99% sure it’s white but yeah haha
I absolutely loved the song when it first came out a few days ago, the Kill ‘Em All-esque is fucking awesome. I’m actually learning this song for my final guitar masterclass at college and I’m definitely stoked to jam on it. Definitely looking forward to the rest of album, gonna be awesome
first thought i had was that it has the feel of a kill em all ride the lightning feel mixed with their modern sound
Would love to see a straight blast beat through through whole song.
¨They've still got it man. They've still f*ckin' got it¨.
Period!
Samus i dont know if you saw it but the drum set has the same color and hardware as the white kit from the black album and i would love to see a reaction of it cause i feel like metallica is going back to the roots of when they first started, the beginning kinda sounded like overkill by motorhead as well, hope you heard and saw the same stuff as i did love the vids man keep it up
Hell yeah! Fresh new old-school metal! My first time listening to this, i was alone in my car laughing, shouting, singing, emotional.
Cant wait for the epic ones!!
Just got my tickets for Detroit next year first first time seeing the boys 🤟🏼
0:23 I knew he was going to Have that reaction after lars added the double bass lol
Love the old school vibe
I love your excitement. Great video!
Love your reaction videos.... you´re the man... greetings from Bolivia
Lars kept it simple on the recorded track because he's going to be riffing a brand- new version of it each time it's played live!
Love it! Sounds like kill ‘em all album sort of!
I like where he says double bass my favorite
If lars added like another unique double bass groove to the song and a couple more decent fills then this would be an amazing song for drums.
The Lux Æternaaaaaaaa vocal part reminds me of their Sabbra Cadabra cover a bit.. n ofcrse the Overkill inspired drum parts.
Did you see the new (old) drum set Lars has, ITS THE BLACK ALBUM KIT!!!
"He did a fill!" I lol'ed
I like it, one thing I noticed immediately was that the double bass for most of the track sounds very similar to Overkill by Motorhead which makes sense considering metallica's respect for Motorhead.
Anything they release that gives us a Kill’em All vibe, I’ll take it.
This track gives me "Kill Em All" vibes. I love it!
the vocals are pruddy nicely rendered
Bit of Motley Crue Livewire in that main riff
The Kings of metal just proved why they are number 1 !!!
sound like the drums of killing time from the cover the made of sweet savage jejeje, for what they've written lately, this is really good, and grad to hear kirk without wah, guitar riffs sound sort of kill em all with modern sounding
Love the "Hit The Lights" reference at 2:18!!
Nice catch on the metal militia riff...I didn't notice that the first listen through...I probably got distracted...
As someone who hasn't liked a lot of Metallica's recent discography, i fucking love this song.
How in the fuck are yall not coming to D.C now I have to travel to soldier field. I still love you guys
This whole song is fire!
Best song I heard for a long time from Metallica, it ROCKS!!
Fucking LOVED this
The drumbeat is very similar to Motörhead’s Overkill. Still awesome though. Surprised Samus didn’t notice Lars using his old school black and white Tama Granstar kit too.
we've got new metallica,that means everything else gets aside. that's epic,bro 😎🤘🏽🤘🏽
Diamond Head running trougt their veins.... and that´s GREEEAT!
I cant fukn wait to go them this is fantastic
Metallica nos surpreende a cada álbum 👏👏👏
Strong Kill 'Em All/Diamond Head vibes in this song. I'd say Motorhead also. Best in a long time...
Got the time tickin in my head
loved the song, but defiently think it was missing a classic metallica bridge section before the solo, just to chnge up the tempo a bit but overall really liked it, got a kill em all vibe and also made me think alot of their merciful fate song
That was awesome
Reminds me of a cross between Motörhead’s Overkill and Stone Cold Crazy. Agreed it was better than I expected out of them
Classic Drumkit , Double Bass . That massively hyped me .
Imagine Lars played it not on a Crash but on a Ride Cymbal .
I really miss the Ride . When did he cancel it ? Justice ? Or earlier ?
I only remember it on Horsemen .
I like the ol Tama Granstar II kit!!
Now, set the song to 1.25 to experience slightly how it will sound live. Wish RUclips had a 1.10 or 1.15 x speed option.
It’s like kill ‘em all with higher production quality
01:57 "- Solo?! Holy sh1t!" )
Can't remember the last time Metallica did a 3 minute song (was it Motorbreath?). It's refreshing :)
Solid song, maybe not so fancy, but still good.
