Imagine driving your wife, kids, and mother-in-law or grandmother in this @0:52. Everyone screaming for different reasons (wife is mad, mother-in-law scared, and kids having fun) LOL!!
I love wagons, I wish we had more of them in North America!
without a doubt THE best car made today
Thorough, informative review on an AWESOME rare car. Great job!
She's learning a lot about new cars as she grows up. I'm really proud of her and the way she can operate all of the tech features be herself.
Great review as always Steve. I'm always curious what type of mileage you put into your test cars, and where they are driven...perhaps that's something you could include in the video notes, or in the video itself when appropriate. Not for comparison's sake (ooh you only drove 50mi instead of 200 this time!) but to let us know if you drove freeway miles or city miles, etc. Cheers.
This wagon is an absolute monster. Gone are the days of the jalopy it would seem. Would love to see you take this for a track day! On a side note - there is about 30 seconds of dead space on the end of this video...looks like an empty timeline got rendered...
The transmission is not a traditional automated manual. It is essentially a 7 speed automatic, complete with planetary gear set found in traditional automatic. But the torque converter is replaced with a wet multi-plate clutch. Not the type found in a dual-clutch trans. I recall, there's 6 or 7 clutch plates stacked together.
My dream car. Instead of buying a sports car and an SUV, this one can do it all, and I think that's what makes it a good value even if it's 100,000. If you want a daily useable vehicle, with 550 horsepower, look no further. Much better than buying an x5 or Lexus and then a Porsche 911 or some other performance/weekend car. This can do it both! And I love it's sleeper image too, without the big brakes and the badging, nobody would suspect that this would be just as fast as a 911 from the same time period.
Hey Steve, you do great reviews but what car us your daily driver. We are looking at the honda pilot and the Acura mdx right now. What car would you buy?
Excellent point...with a start-up clutch that replaces the torque converter.
This is an amazing review, I really I like the time you took to speak to ensure a good understand. Camera angles are good, it really shows the everyday use of this E63 AMG Wagon. Good Job :)
PS: E350 has 3rd row seating, does this have it?
Hey, I love the CTS-V Wagon, too! But the Benz is BIGGER = more useful. It's also more practical overall and gets far better gas mileage. Plus it's a number of steps up on the prestige ladder. I wouldn't fault anyone for pocketing the cash and going with the Caddy but if you CAN get the E63 then you should.
How was the shift quality? At normal driving conditions with the trans. in the most comfy mode, does it do the herky-jerky or it feels like a regular torque converter auto? Like I could afford a AMG in my lifetime but it would be interesting how it drives in real world condition.
hey Steve not to be nit picky but the E63 doesnt have an automated manual its actually a torque converter auto with a wet start up clutch, understandably confusing though as Benz calls it "multi clutch tans"
0:52 That’s the best tire abuse shot I think I’ve seen on RUclips.
Yeah, we addressed that in a comment below. It's called a multi-clutch transmission with a start-up clutch in place of a torque converter. I guess I should have made that clearer.
Steve, when you say the cabin is loud, do you mean by Mercedes standards or just in general?
This thing is even more rare than a C63 Black or an SLS. Given it's similar mileage hwy to most v6 SUVs, if you have the money and space, this car is a no-brainer.
Much smoother than a standard dual-clutch transmission. None of that slipping/jerkiness you sometimes get. It feels like an automatic.
The din of road/tire noise is particularly high for a luxury car but would be noteworthy in any class.
Hope you're right! There seems to be a perceived "stigma" with wagons. There are fewer and fewer choices and more and more SUV's/CUV's. Let's hope for some additional offerings from the manufacturers in the future.
Interesting, I remember one of the car mags talking about it having a "way back" seat. Rear facing of course.
What a sweet sound. I love AMGs.
Does the Mercedes E63 come available in 4Matic?
The colour funtastic
i dont think any of those side sunshades are typically powered, the rear ones are though.
Indeed it is!
Daughter doesn't realize how lucky she is to get to see all these cars!
Why aren't the DRLs on in many shots? Isn't that the whole point of having them?
I checked Mercedes' site; if one wants AWD in this, you can get it in the E350 wagon. Albeit, it's down to a 300+ hp V-6, but hey, the AMG line is for enthusiasts.
I can't believe I actually saw one of these the other day. My heart stopped......
If I had big bucks I'd rock this car. Amg 550 hp wagon. Had the rear jump seats? A 7 passenger super wagon?.. Amg style. Much better than sitting up high in an suv (as cool as the ml/gl amgs and the Cherokee srt are). Cts-v wagon is almost as cool. Almost
Super cool video. I've watched it at least five Times
why was the smoke yellow?
Thank you! No 3rd row.
I LOVE THIS CAR
Quite a few in Australia, Amg's everywhere in general
I know, I know. I'm trying to get Ford to part with one. Hopefully soon.
because the pavement mustve had some kind of sealant on it, thats commonly the cause of yellow tire smoke
Special compound in the tyres
Brilliant car. Absolutely love it
Is the first scene at Thacher State Park?
Maybe 😏
No personal car, just testers. I'd buy this if I could.
Agreed.
this or CTS-V wagon?
it's true. this is even rarer than the SLS AMG.
totally different beasts.
5.5 bi-turbo in my opinion has a better sound but thats just me, and the E63 amg wagon is a lot faster than the CTS-V wagon by far, look it up on the RUclips. you would end up spending more on it but you get more out of it. glass roof, better interior and exterior quality than the CTS-V wagon, and better gas mileage. i would choose this if i were you.
E63 Wagon CTS-V Wagon
Did the designers at Caddy only have a ruler?
It really comes down to personal preference, but I say go CTS-V.
Agree! More wagon choices- but it won't happen in the U.S.
im finna cop that benz wagon
Nice, how do i get that job?
Pollen on the tarmac?
Audi RS6 Avant FTW!
I've never seen one on the road.
If you have 550Hp, you don't want to face the back end of the car... you get sick... ;)
I think i still like CTS-V wagon more
Jesus this car is beautiful, no 3rd row though?
Subtract the price about 40,000 and its worth it.
how many times we should ask for 2013 ford mustang review -_- ??
The maintenance maintenance is expensive
Porsche does them in the Panamera.
ill take a cts-v wagon
2:08. For $130,000 you should at least get a power sunshade.
Benz needs to straighten out their rear styling.... whoever is designing currently, really messed up a classic car.
hmm, gonna need afew more pennies in my piggy bank.
Cts-v wagon is a better value!
Quiero uno :'( sueño con tener uno de esos , pero se quedara en eso nada mas
en un sueño :C
me encanta kdscnksdv
الله يرزقني بوحدة زيها
CTS V for 40 grand less
No, only RWD
Negative.
this car is so fucking insane and ridiculous.
acura mdx
why the HELL would i ever buy a $100K car??????????? pff
