I’m currently reading David Simon’s book Homicide and this scene is line for line taken directly from a barroom conversation between two murder detectives Simon witnessed
Not for me. Bunk is a terrible friend to McNulty. In Season 1 he frequently puts JM down and in Season 4, when finally he's reformed, Bunk is trying to coax Jimmy back into his old habits. Even goes as far as to say he's a faker in episode 3. All because he wants his drinking buddy back. Grade A prick.
@@DarrenH001 nope you're analysing too much, if you know anything about bromance and getting high together its the most quality time, we're more open which guys usually aren't. I like the guy but he’s no saint and somewhat an hypocrite. Sometimes he’s a bit too sanctimonious on Jimmy, Even though he encouraged his excesses… right up the time that Jimmy falls back to his demons and then Bunk is biting his ankle like a dog. Nobody beats Lester for me. He had the drive of Jimmy but a larger skillset than Jimmy and Bunk put together AND cool as a cucumber. Did I mention he’s selfless and empathetic too ? The barroom conversations between Bunk and McNulty throughout the series are gems. This one in particular comes to mind because Bunk is more tipsy than usual and 1). his slurred, "Yeah, rum 'em together like that." and, 2). his pursed lip impersonation of how McNulty is going to have to suck up to Rawls. Very candid and very amusing.
I just started watching The Wire for the first time on MAX and this scene had me laughing so hard I was crying. I want to know how many takes it took to get through that scence without those two cracking up. "I knew it was your first time, I wanted to make that shit special"
this conversation really happened. well i mean basically the same. i dont remember the exact words. read David Simons book "Homicide - Life on the killing streets". thats his biographical account of a year with Baltimore Homicide. you can see where he got all this content for the show. thats why it feels so gritty and real. a lot of it is. that book is just as good as the show.
@@wades9327 Woke shit? In the 80's? With Gibson and Glover? Come on man don't give me that crap, it's 80's buddy buddy classic. Sure Wire goes deeper and more realistic, but that's the point, it's a tv show with all the room to do it.
@@stevem2323 No it's fake woke Hollywood bullshit. With all the saxophone dressing and joint quote bullshittery you get from fakes in LA. Hollywood was woke long before the rest of society. @@wades9327 I don't see woke in a movie with two non bullshit guys like Gibson and Glover. It was an action movie, blockbuster, they can't go deep like Wire.
I just started watching this show. Jesus, it's so complex and intricate. So many characters and each one feels fleshed out and real. And I'm not even through season 1!
Partly yes. It's also about how Bunk is trying to tell him to actually kiss some ass to get over screwing Rawls and McNulty is basically saying you're screwing me over by telling me that.
The bar scenes with Jimmy and bunk were always great jimmy" you were gentle " bunk " i knew it was your first time I wanted that S*"T to be special "jimmy drunk as S**T " it was it F*****G was " i still LMAO 😂🤣
What makes this scene- in my mind- are these: 1) We know Jimmy and Bunk are the two biggest womanizers in the show. 2) The dead seriousness of both as they talk about having sex with each other. This is classic.
This comment isn't meant to be homophobic in the least. But how is it that on a show that had like 8 different gay characters, the gayest scene in the entire show occurs between these two?!
It wasn't gay. It was a sexual innuendo. They're not talking about actually fucking. Their talking about being fucked in the station with one of the cases. This scene is actually one of my favorites. I wonder how many takes it took with them keeping a straight face. It's just hilarious. Bunk and McNulty always had some of the best dialogue.
well there IS more David Simon has done. The Corner, which is similar thematically and kind of a precursor to the wire, but he's done more series: the deuce, treme etc!
"It's not because you're good police because y'know fuck that right?"
that line..so legendary
Jacob Kim "yeah fuck that"
“I knew it was your first time.” 😂

Between this and the "fuck" crime scene episode, Bunk & McNulty should go down as one of the best duos on a TV show of all time!

exactly, lots of these interactions are better than entire series
Also McNulty calling Bunk an "old whore" when he wants to pay for drinks.
These two are so fucking funny together.
Oh the bromance after 3 am... We all been there at some point :D
Just started watching this series. Saw this and was like "welp, this is how grown men drink and talk"
the wire has legit real conversations, this is how 2 close mates would fuck around, banter - they could've easily been the new lethal weapon duo
Bunk and McNulty. Still a better love story than Twilight.
that's a pretty low bar :)
Bunks facial expressions and responses are Priceless 😆😆
"Its about sympathy..and it's about givin a guy a break."
Flawless delivery of the line "rub 'em together like that"
i will miss this show so much. i still think about it almost daily. i wish it wasnt over.
Love this two. Their banter is always the best.
"..its not because when i came to homicide you taught me all kinds of cool shit about...*pause*...well i dont know, whatever"

For real SAME
The harmonica coming in at the end of their conversation is just fucking PERFECT!!!
McNulty and Bunk got drunk in the detective squadroom on the first night. One of the best shows ever.
American cinema classic.
