Young John Watson - Highway 60 78 on my Philips 303 UFO portable turntable

Classy blues with Johnny Guitar Watson released in 1953. At the time he was playing piano but would switch to guitar in a year or two. The tasty guitar on this track is played by Wayne Bennett who later would play on many of Bobby Blue Blands’ sides for Duke. Hope you enjoy this early side by the fabulous Watson!

Wow! Philips portable and a Federal 78! Those were the days! As for the recording I think he sounds a lot like Amos Milburn and his ‘Bad,bad whiskey’

tune 1953 is early rock-n-roll.
Watson and others like him laid down the foundation of rock-n-roll for others who followed,to build on. In just a few more years rock-n-roll would be a phenomena
