    " traditional dutch shoes"
no, traditional dutch workers shoes. probably the first mass produced safety foot wear in history. regularly worn by farmers, builders, fishers and artisans to protect their feet from things like.
fish hooks, falling stones or boulders, foot operated machinery. blacksmithing as well as farmers making sure the cows they are milking don't turn their feet into a mushy mess when the animal steps on it.
also people thinking these are uncomfortable to wear. probably don't know you wear them while also wearing thick wool socks. you could wear blocks of concrete comfortably if you wear socks made from sheep wool.

ive been told the shoes actually are compy for the people that have walked them in, the longer u own a pair the better it will walk over time as the wood reacts to the foot pressing down and the moisture makes it not dry out and harden completely or something like that.

Yes, this is true. Whenever I get a new pair, because the old ones are too worn down, they feel somewhat clumsy. However stepping in the old ones again, it feels like putting on a pair of socks. In my place clogs are mostly worn around the house, the local streets and the pub. When we travel further, go shopping etc, in general people will put on shoes. They are also ideal wearing at festivals to prevent people stepping on your toes.

In the Achterhoek, one of the most rural parts of the Netherlands, we have a saying that translates to "throwing the clogs backwards" (De klompen achteruit gooien / De klomp'n achteruut gooi'n) to say someone died. The idea is when you fall flat on your face, you kick off your (wooden) shoes in the process, launching them backwards. So when someone who speaks Achterhoeks asks what happened to someone and you wanna say they died, it's very much understood if you say: "Hi-j hef de klomp'n achteruut egooid"

The yellow clog is decorative not for wearing intended. But a well made clog can be comfortable and surprisingly warm. Actually this is the man's style clog. The womans clog has a bigger hole and there is a leather strap that keeps the clog on you feet. Usualy you also wear thick socks to soften the rim of the shoe. I have worn them for a whole weekend, i had them on lone, otherwise i would have worn them more often.

They are not only for working the land, aka the mud, but also great protection when working with cattle. No use in wearing sneakers when a cow steps on your foot. And they last a very long time as well, it takes years to wear them down. People would have Sunday shoes for church, weddings and funerals, but clogs would be their everyday shoes. I used to wear them as a child, they were considered good for foot development - but I somehow doubt that. 😉

Even though I don't know all the words yet, I got three of them. The last one for sure. I wonder what Dutch people who aren't fluent in English think when we Americans talk about putting something on our bucket list, or taking a dirt nap? Or why we Americans immediately think of Hannibal Lecter when we hear the simple question, "Koken jullie ze?" I went down that rabbit hole when I first was learning the verb koken. I translated it as "Are you cooking her?" Even later, when I correctly translated it as "Are you cooking them?" I still thought people. It didn't occur to me that "Ze" could be vissen of bless of groenten.
So, yeah, I wonder if Dutch people think dirt nap is some kind of American Spa treatment? Or, that we carry a bucket around and keep a list in it because we're so forgetful?
The Dutch one that had me guessing, "Schreeuwen uit de keel" I never would have guessed. I guessed it was some kind of Dutch Metal Band vocal technique. I never thought that it was what it is. I am not telling. Fellow Dutch students see if you can figure out what what it means....

    Goedemorgen meneer de Pau.
Ik heb veel gelachen met deze filmpje. Dit is zo grappig. Deze studenten hebben originele en goede ideeën. Ik kan deze dingen niet denken. I understood you perfectly when you said that the last proverb means "total relaxation". I don't know how it took so long for them to get it. It was very obvious. The best ones were the two boys who were relating it to sex. How could they? Which kind of connection did they see with having sex? What stroke me is that they believed that Dutch farmers make love with their "klompen" on and they took them off after sex. That was hilarious. Then they changed and they said that they're taken off to indicate that it's time for sex. 🤣😂 Now I'd like to have a Dutch boyfriend so that I can make their fantasy true. I would ask him to wear klompen for sex because it should be sexy somehow. 😅😜 Oh, I think that they related it to sex due to be relaxed. OK, I get their point.
Good video as always. Groeten. 🤗

Do these people ever read a article, book or news paper. Do they ever look up a word? Maybe use a dictionary and make an note every now and than.
