My father was an engineer for Chevy way back when and I remember when they were working on the prototype Corvette in 1952. My dad would bring fibreglass samples home and tell me to hit it with a hammer to show how well it took and impact.
Over the next few years my dad would bring me Corvette emblems and I had them all around the outside of my wagon.

Perhaps the most significant achievement of the C8 is that it successfully captured not only the mechanical and aesthetic traits of a Ferrari, but also the kind of inherent je ne sais quoi Italian quirkiness, such as in the column of center stack buttons and avant garde cockpit. Whatever its shortcomings in terms of power, this car is a masterfully crafted American love letter to the Italian sports cars of today, and of yesteryear.

it's bad actually, the vehicle is being sold over sticker, which means that is instant depreciation once driven off the lot. if the dealer adds 10k to the sticker as most were on a fully loaded Z51 then the owner loses it when he goes to sell because the black book value will not take into account the massive dealer mark up. best to wait a few years and get a good deal on a used one. never buy first or second year cars they are still working out the bugs.

There is no denying it's speed, and the handling might even be just as impressive, though I did actually find it TOO easy to drive. The car is smooth and stable, almost under engaging, IMO. More of a numbers car. Not my favorite Corvette, I prefer the C4/C5 generations for being more challenging/engaging, but the C8 is no doubt very quick around a track. The thing is though about MR vehicles is they sort of brace themselves upon hard acceleration; it can be ever so slightly discerned if you watch POV videos like this there’s just a slight lightning fast bounce which affects the driver during the first few inches of forward movement. . Clearly this has to do with the car utilizing its’ own suspension hardware to sort of fling itself forward after taking a miniscuke half a step back in response to the big combustion occurring in the middle of the vehicle and it appears to me that this combustion does cause the body to quiver in such a way that poises it for a maximum acceleration launch.
The Ferarri 458 Speciale does this as well and I think the R8 does something similar.

When greedy dealers stop asking for 30k over MSRP I'd consider buying one. Until that happens, the advertised price point of this car is not reality.

The thing with American sports cars is they're made to go fast in a straight line 1/4 mile at a time, but not to do tight corners like on a proper F1 track. Would like to see this car in the hands of the original UK Top Gear blokes and The Stig. ;-)

You seem to have missed what American performance cars have been doing on racetracks in recent years. Car and Driver has been pitting American, European, and Japanese cars against each other at Virginia International Raceway since 2006. The track is over 3 miles long and sure looks like it could be an F1 venue (look it up). The magazine has a list of the time trial results at "Lightning Lap Results 2006 to 2023: Every Car, Every Lap Time." The top 4 fastest times have been set by European marques--each priced at multiples of Corvette prices--followed by two Corvettes, 2023 and 2019 models. Their times are better than those of numerous Porsches, Lamborghinis, and Ferraris. The days of Corvettes and other hot American cars being noncompetitive on racetracks with corners have been over for a while now.
