The wasla in order to avoid the pronunciation A as in انا or long vowel ا in the middle . Wasla is always in the beginning and it is connected always to the previous letter in reading only ..
I think that It is related to sun and moon letters. Check that up more closely in Arabic grammar book! Arabic is a complex language but truly beautiful!

Sir what is the use of alif wasl? Why we write it if it's not pronounced?
The wasla in order to avoid the pronunciation A as in انا or long vowel ا in the middle .
Wasla is always in the beginning and it is connected always to the previous letter in reading only ..
It exists for when we are not connecting with previous word, then this hamza is pronounced with a short vowel.
You forgot to write "chicken" in the last sentence...chicken kebab lol.
