I wonder if rain water could blow in and pool in the bottom. I think I would put in a couple of holes for drainage. Thank you for this idea. I have some coffee cans I've been holding onto. Perfect.🙂
Thank you for watching! I do advise to put them in a shaded area so birds don't get hot. Carolina Wren in particular love them at about head height, and even chipmunks sometimes use it. I do think drainage holes is a good idea, yes! I haven't made one in some time, but would love to make a touch-up video that includes this idea. Thank you again!
I just can’t believe you had 11 views with not one comment or like. That is a good idea, I will make a couple since I see birds just hanging around when I sit on the porch enjoying nature.
We position our own bird houses in shaded areas of the woods that don't see heavy sunlight. But some people do construct heat shields for the bird house to prevent direct sunlight from beating down on it. Folks can also provide bird baths to help them stay cool as well.
It’s up to whoever makes the project to be creative with it, and make it however they like. This was just the original idea and allowed a little decorative pallet board. :)

Very cool
Thank you so much for watching!
Run your drill backwards with the required hole saw.
This way, the frictional heating does the cutting, and the hole comes out a bit neater ...
Thank you for sharing this tip and thank you for watching!
Great idea. Easy peasy. Thank you ❤ 🐦

Edit: I’m your 41st subscriber.
It's a newer video, but we hope it will grow! Let us know what type of birds come to your can houses.

Just letting you know, I am going to "steal" your idea
Good luck! Lots of people have made great suggestions on how to improve this project and secure it
This is so cool, I love your videos
Thank you!
Coffee cans will be very hot in summer for the birds?

What size hold did you drill?
Thank you for watching! I cannot recall off hand but I will ask my husband to see if he can recall looking at the hole saw we used
Did the hot glue hold the perch on well?
It actually has for lighter birds - another older one I made held up for two sets of Carolina Wrens.
Why not just mount it to the tree directly?
