- Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're discussing the Diplomacy of Fulgrim in his encounter with Eldrad Ulthran... How the Phoenician truly was the Emperor's Herald. And how the Imperium still misses him today...
Spoiler Warning to begin as the events we're discussing today are from the Horus Heresy series novel "Fulgrim" by author Graham McNeill. As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first without spoilers! As that's the best way to enjoy the lore for yourself!

Fulgrim before the fall is one of my favorites.
Fr, he gets misunderstood and overlooked alot. Dude was a G
I wonder how differently events would have played out if Eldrad Ulthran and Fulgrim had met prior to the Laer campaign.
Yet another example of Eldar acting dumb? How did Eldrad _not_ sensed the demon sword of *_Slaanesh_* Fulgrim carried!? 8/
I get what your saying but in this occasion do you not think fulgrims presence in the warp would conceal a sealed daemons soul?
@@jonathandevlin313 Eldrad is probably in the top 3 most powerful psykers that ever lived with the Emperor and Magnus being 1 and 2..
Honestly I think this is a case of bad writing and not Eldrad being stupid. The lore isn't perfectly written yknow...
@@ironduke5058 Yeah, but when it comes to the Eldar, I feel like it is badly written more often than not. ;/
@@jonathandevlin313 The lore claims that the sword interfeered with Eldrad's Farseeing, but nothing about his perception if things. And Fulgrim doesn't have that power as far as I've read, even post-ascension. :/
I blame Graham McNeil and the poor planning of the Earlier Heresy. They though to make about 10 novels max, and so they hadn't time to give us loyalist Fulgrim before his fall.
If you can’t wait here’s what happens, Fulgrim and Ulthred start trying to out do each other in a hip hop dance battle until the Wrath lord steps in & bust’s out a move so fresh, so funky even a primarch such as Fulgrim decides he must bow down
Oh man, this has given me a new respect for Fulgrim. Can you imagine what the Imperium would be like with him still around? There would be less war, more neutral ground and a greater respect between the races. Who knows he might even be able to broker peace between the "good" races to combat threats like the Orks, Tyranids and Chaos. I think I might just have to get that book on audio and give it a listen.
To be honest, I really don't care for this meeting. It's one of those scenes in 40k that is cool and awesome and inspiring... until you step back and think about it. Then it just seems to be here merely to turn Eldrad into a Jobber. It's a weakness with the writing in 40k, which simply can't exist without the most intelligent people in the Galaxy doing the dumbest things possible at the worst possible time.
Having been an Eldar player in those days, I was completely annoyed by Fulgrim disarming and then easily smashing the Avatar. I get that it was Fulgrim's book, but still... It was also at that time that I realized myself and the chaos players had been playing with Primarch level character all those years. I felt bad for the space-marine players in my little group.
This was a great passage in this excellent book, as always a great discussion by you which leaves loads to think about. 😁👍🏻
Fulgrim:My secrets of my fabulous hair for your secrets of eternal youth
In my opinion, the 3rd Primarch and Legion were specifically designed to deal with the Eldar. The Emperor would have know that the ancient race would have been one of the biggest challenges in the Great Crusade. Unfortunately this may have also been why Slaanesh desired them as his champions. She thirsts for the souls of the Eldar and warriors specialized in contending with the race would be coveted.
Wow this was cool. I was really impressed at how Fulgrim kept his cool while still being sharp enough to rebuttle Eldrad with more "diplomatic" language. Eldrad is seemingly the first to break and starts to get a bit aggressive. I could definetly see Fulgrim being Warmaster or coming back like Gman and leading the Imperium
FOR THE EMPEROR 💜
Psyched about Fulgrim Week
I wonder how a conversation between curze and eldrad would have gone considering how potent his foresight was. Also would be funny to see how blunt jago would have been during a parlet 😂
Potent but completely uncontrolled, to the point it being a hindrance. Eldrad and Magnus on the other hand... nah, scratch that, Magnus would have ignored anything Eldrad would have said the same way he ignored anyone else who has ever said anything, including the Emperor.
Maybe Eldrad and Perturabo in that case...
Wolf lord rho i think you missed a key point when you said fulgrim was the best choice to have this meeting. The fact that he has an identical type of aragance as the eldar.
What i find fascinating is the idea of a alternative timeline where the primarchs that fell to chaos and those that didn't where swapped.
What would a loyalist Fulgrim, Horus or Lorgar be like?
What would a Chaos Guilliman, Lion and Sanguinius be like?
There are a few different fan made stories of just that the that are actually really good the dornian heresy is probably the best there’s also a robution heresy and lion one I think they are pretty easy to find with a google search it’s worth checking out
There is such a fanfic, the Dornian heresy IIRC.
Another excellent swapped sides heresy is the Theoreticus Heresy. This one is unique since it exists as an audio story on RUclips by the channel 40K Theories.
At every chance they do the Eldar dirty. Rename the whole game Space Marines
I like to imagine that some of the same members of the delegation to meet Fulgrim were also present centuries later as the "peaceful envoys" sent to speak to the Emperor and "accidentally" came to blows with the Custodes.
I threw ya a sub. This was good fun. My only ask is more of a ceeative challenge to pose you with. Could you do something with Orks and Custodes that is both fun and funny. Grim Dark Humor?
Fulgrim before his fall is vastly underrated.
My favorite primarch!
Fulgrim is the best primarch, Loyal and Chaos....he is still the best
Hope you make a video on clonegrim
I'm so unfamiliar to Fulgrim without cat ear. He looks so strange.
Eldrad thinking: "So there is a mon'keigh capable of conversation."
What is hope in the 40k universe but a cruel joke? Here, we see another example of potential lost with a fallen Primarch. It pains me to imagine the amount of good that each of them could have brought to the Imperium and the galaxy at large if things had gone differently.
Could we say that the Imperium could have been seen as almost akin to the Nids by the wider galaxy durring the Great Crusade.
“Almost akin” is a stretch, but there are some similarities
"Eat shit, traitor" - Nassir Amit
Yea it feels there was still more to come
“Intellect of Dorn”…. Lmao!
I like the idea of what if the primarchs didn’t fall to chaos but at the same time, I always saw as integral parts of their stories these lore moments fleshes out the story of the sexual assault snake in the warp turns his story into a tragedy of what actually took place and what could’ve been like Angron who was supposed to be an empath and probably voice of reason amongst brothers he and we were robbed of that path not from chaos but still his story was forever changed
I am sorry, but Eldrad comes off as a massive fool during this encounter. Kinda wish they had used some other figure, since Eldrad is supposed to be amongst the wisest of the Eldar.
GW dunking on Eldar again? 🤔
Hey they do have something in common Fulgrim, and the Eldar, they both get written like they are stupid, breaking their characters just to push the plot along, or make other characters look good in comparison
Ppl really dont do Fulgrim justice. Ppl forget that after this meeting, he still almost Exterminatus'd Horus and his fleet out of existence because of the accusation of heresy. Fulgrim was corrupted by the influence of the Laer blade over decades, with no knowledge of Chaos and still almost ended the heresy from the jump. And people think that's no big deal.
IIRC he only entertained the idea because he saw that his fleet was completely unnoticed by the Luna Wolves. He really only thought of it because it felt good to say to himself that he and his legion are so perfect strategists and warriors that even the Warmaster himself and his Luna wolves could be obliterated by him.
Fantastic scene and then gets ruined by fulgrim strangling a statue
Warhammer metal pictures... hmm good ad placement.
For the Emperor! 😈
Damn! Fulgrim what a waste
Here, and not just just a 40K failing. All too many writers just cannot write two very intelligent and wise people having a "discussion". One of the parties always has to be hit hard with the "Stupid Stick".
What happend to the fulgrim clone? Did they scrap that story or ?......
If yes. Thats a damn shame :(
Trazyn the Infinite has him.
He’s either in stasis with the Necron dude or Fabius Bile killed him. Either way, probably nothing to be done on that?
@@shuatastic so they scrapped the plotline without scrapping the plot line. smooth.
I'm glad they did. It weakens the whole story. Bringing back characters from the dead doing remakes ect ect. Kinda weakens the integrity of the whole story. If they do that what's stopping them from bringing back horus?
@@StoneStraiffGranted I haven't finished the Siege of Terra series but my understanding originally was Horus was the only one that could never come back. The Emperor obliterated his soul, unlike characters like Magnus or Fulgrim who simply had their souls shattered or corrupted. The Emperor states Mortarian could be redeemed still in the Plague War novels, so he doesn't oblit him when possessing Gman.
what exactly was fulgrim supposed to be? what kind of man did the emperor intend for him to become?
More or less what he was before his fall. Proud, beautiful, utterly brilliant and supremely charming.
A romantic warriors ideal.
The word of the Emperor and the diplomat, he will talk to you before he brings your world to compliance, whereas Russ would say kneel or die!, Fulgrim would try to make common ground and gauge the person weather they're fit for the Imperium.
Wolf: I cant quite put my finger on it...
The lord of Change:.... got'em....
