We live in Western Pa. and Have around 100 Acres of Land, About 1/2 is ours the rest is my moms, We have 4 kids and two grandchildren, 3 Golden Retrievers and one Cat. We enjoy working on our property and making improvements. We sell firewood and soon will be selling hardwood lumber.
FIRE STARTER CAN BE FOUND HERE! www.outdoorswiththemorgans.com/shop
I got me some for our scout troop try. Cant wait to try it
Used mine for the first time the other night. Very happy with it.....nice hot start for a good fire.
Boy, you have a lot of irons in the fire Mike. Kudos to you for having the energy and drive to do everything you do.
👍👍👍👍👍👌Wow busy day moving equipment to the work site, explaining the plan, dropping some trees, clean-up, splitting wood, off site meeting, brush clearing , clearing the work site and the chickens even got fed, so much accomplished along with making and editing & presenting the video really enjoyed the video and appreciate all the time and effort you both put into your videos thanks for sharing!
You guys are so lucky to have no snow. We are covered in about 2 feet here in Northern Ontario. Thanks for sharing another awesome video my friend.
Mike showing off. Drops his first 2 trees right on top of each other. Proceeds to drop 3 more parallel to the others! Very impressive! 🙌🏼🔥👌🏼
Don't know why, but it's SO satisfying to watch you lift, drop and shake a tree stump / root ball to get soil out. You're "poetry in motion" with all your machines... love watching!
You should be looking into a walenstein log trailer, and then you won't need to buck up the wood in the timber and handle it twice. You should be able to get it cheap for ad time since you have the walenstein log winch to hook it to.
Great to see the new project underway. So nice when every day is Saturday to have projects that really change the landscape like you are doing. Love to watch the progress.
Interesting land clearing project. Surprised ,as a retired blasting expert you didn't consider blasting out the larger stumps. We have used that method here, but our trees seem to root deeper and firmer in our Illinois soil. Blasting usually cleans the root system pretty completely. This will be a LARGE project and keep you busy for quite a while. I look forward to the videos.
Well done Mike! Winter and land clearing go nicely together. Watch your channel all the time with my son. Keep going!
A nice old farm trailer would work well behind the MX to get firewood poles and saw logs out of the woods efficiently.
I dig the log splitter hopper. No bending over. Just drive up. Less "handling". No need fir Melissa, unless you want some company
Them sticks could make a great frame for solar pole barns. Shelter yir gear and generate power. 15-20,000 square feet of panels = Morgan Power Company $$$$. Yeah, a check in the mail, every month. Here in Colorado, we got a 12KW solar panel, inverter, etc. installed at zero cost. It'll take ~7 years to pay for itself...then the power generation $ will be all ours! .......Or not, and just say that we did.
Yeah, it's warming up. More sunshine. But supposed to be a blizzard on Wednesday. Ugh! I sure miss the beautiful weather in Southern California...but not the crowds.
This is going to be a great enjoyable project to watch you as you take down trees and clear it to make a pasture/meadow/ feed plot/ cleared area. I have never seen you leave anything a mess. Love your videos.
I have done an orchard in the woods for the same purpose, help the wildlife, I would recommend planting a variety of apple trees, they all ripen slightly different times and disease will not effect all varieties. Plant a few crab apple trees too, they are a huge help because they are a great pollinator
I just cleared some of my land ... 5 trees and only a tractor, so there was a bit a shovel work! Next up, 2-10x20 hoop style green houses! Love the skill with which you go about it!
Another great day in the woods with Mike. Thanks for sharing this journey.
Well Mike you got a good start on the project. It’s looking good. All the right equipment sure makes a big difference. That’s a great place for an orchard. Cool video. 👍❤️
That’s a lot of trees to take down, but you enjoy doing it and you have the machinery so it’s nothing but a good time.
Good afternoon from rainy Upstate South Carolina. No snow for us again. Looking good. Have another productive day.
Mike you’ve got a cracking day to be out in the woods looks a really lovely. Really enjoy your videos keep them coming can’t wait to see the progress in the woods 👍🏴
Quite easily one of my favorite things to do is clear some timber out in the woods. I wish I was doing the same today.
If you know any arborist that would dump woodchips for you (I get mine all free), spread 6-10 inches everywhere you plan to plant the orchard. It will act as a mulch / fertilizer / weed preventer for you. Overtime (1-2 years pending dampness) it will decompose to humus and fruit trees love growing in that medium.
Nice to have so many great machines and accessories... good job u2!
Good Morning Mike, watching you cut trees reminded me that I fell several pine and a few red cedar Friday. My brother-in-law's own a WoodMizer LT 15wide, I'm the tree killer and their the board makers.
Hi Mike and Melissa, thanks for sharing your personal life with all of us. Awesome. You said fire starter available again. Did you use the new machine yet to bag it? If so, do you plan on posting a video of that process? I know you did the manufacturing video but would LUV to see Mike, Melissa and Levi in action. Thanks again.
You are exactly right! I bought a Kubota with a snow blower last fall and we haven’t gotten much of any snow this winter either!
Great job Mike. I love watching this. Does Levi like running the equipment? Kinda fun watching father and son working together.
Nice Work! Nice Start On The Land Clearing Project!!
Keep Smiling On!!
😀👍👊❤
Mike, it’d be neat if you were to draw a rough picture of just where this flat spot is on the property. Using Google Earth one could orientate your drawing to be able to see right where that flat spot is located relative to the other spots of structures, for example the sawmill , house and such.
Agree. Some time ago I asked for same thing. When he expanded the building and lower mill area it became a bit clearer to me. I’m thinking theres a safety/ security concern and I fully understand that.
Glad to see you doing your part to save the ozone with your excavator! Good man! You are becoming quite the chainsaw arteest with your ability to drop trees. When you were dropping the stumps to clean them up, I thought it was "raining" stumps for a few minutes😊. You need to develop a vibrating clamp for shaking those stumps loose of all the soil. If I can get a small fee for that suggestion after you sell them, I'd certainly appreciate it😨😨. On the fire starter, keep the masses hungry for it and don't worry about running out. Unless you're going to really gear up production, you can only put out so much. Good video as always. Yea, this winter has been relatively mild, except for those 7 or 8 days of sub zero temps and some snow in Dec. I use to travel in your area at times as a log buyer, so I know how lousy PA winters can be. I'm about 20 N of Dayton, OH so we have some of the same. Look forward to your updates on this project. You're living the dream most of us wish we could. You earned it, so enjoy, Ron
Dump trailer would sure be handy to taking all the limbs to the fire pit. You have all the tools and know how to use them. Good luck with all the projects you have lined up. Don't forget to take time out to love yourself. I think you treat your projects like downtime sometimes. Good for you
My maternal grandfather’s farm was located in SW Pennsylvania, Green County. I was told his grandfather homesteaded it. The ground was not very good for farming. The only level ground was the ridgeland and the bottomland. The rest was steep and dangerous to run equipment on. He had one particularly nice meadow on a broad ridge. The land you are working right now reminds me of that ridge. At one point in history, someone, I suppose my great grandfather, built a fenceline right down the middle of that ridge. Removing that grownup fenceline was a summer/fall project for me uncle and I one year. We could never figure out why someone would have fenced the beautifully broad, flat ridge in half. Thanks for the great content. Doug
Now that I think of it, I think the county name is misspelled. It should be Greene County, not Green.
Maybe a helpful hint.. For cutting those small branches and suckers off of the trees your cutting down , try using your battery powered chain saw. It's far lighter and easier to move around then your big gas saw. I use a 14 inch Makita and won't be with out it when cutting fire trees for fire wood. It's been a few years now but I remember both your and your wife using one.
Mike you are awesome and the planning of the meadow as seen in how you cut the trees down to go where you wanted. Great job.
Had to miss going to church today due to a severe cold like flu with aches & pains ! Thanks for helping
The Rexcavator for the win!! OWTM, a little peaceful viewing before church. 36 degrees and rain in Charlotte. I like your cleaning as you go, that’s going to be a lot of stumps in the burn pit. Very nice video, Mike.
Next year the Eagles might do it again! Congratulations for giving it your best!
Eagles? Nope thats eastern Pa, Basically Jersey, We were all in on the Chiefs
No we Bleed Green in Philly! But I like KC happy for them!
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans It's a Philly thing! Most people don't understand! Reminds me of the people who voted for Biden and Fetterman! Trump 2024
Mike - Great segment. Love the music. Blessings to you and the family. Hi to Melissa, Hunter, Levi, Eva, and the pooches.
Stumps plucking out easier than I expected. You maybe able to get some of the bigger ones too.
Hey Mike I really enjoy your channel , great content ,lots of projects going on .In watching this video I noticed what looked like an old grave stone/ headstone propped up against a tree near your work area. I was just wondering if it was actually a head stone and if so, do you know of the grave location. It might be nice to mark it's location for future reference. Keep up the great work.
Looking good Mike, open them woods up great spot for a food plot to draw all sorts of wild of wildlife, love you guys
Helped a friend in his excavation business when he cleared land we would push trees 12 " ' and under ,we would dig around the root push the tree and the root would pop right out with the tree a lot less work and faster .
Yep, I cleared 3 acres of my property using a dozer just like you said. RIP the tree roots on a couple of sides and push tree over rootball and all. I can do a 12" diameter tree in less than 2 minutes.
In my opinion the less you have to handle it the better. If it were me I’d be bringing one or both of those trailers out there and bring the poles back to the yard. I’m sure he has his reasons though. Still enjoyable to watch. Notice I avoided saying “you should”, 😉 Rock on Mike
Can't get trailers back there
The mini with the thumb and root rake do make handling those logs a breeze. That area should be really nice when you are done and it's all greened up
A lot of those trees you can push over with the stumps attached. It should make your life a lot easier
Yes I pushed a lot of trees over, I also am trying to do things as neat and clean as I can, I also am trying to save as much good firewood as I can. If i wanted I could just push most over and push them into a pile and burn. Just getting started as well. I'm sure I will find what works best
looking good Mike, hey just a tip to consider, paint the top of the stumps you want ground, they will be hard to find in the future, also stump grinders charge by the inch of diameter of the stumps, can get very pricey!
If he just dug around the tree for a few minutes then pushed up high on the tree the stumps would just come right out. I make a feild just like this and it saved so much time
Those vines with all of the hairy attachment to the tree bark are often Poison Ivy, but are always in the way. They can be hard to peel off. Those and grape vines can be hard on the trees, and I have started to cut a couple of inches out to kill vines on trees near my paths. I was just looking at some wind blow downs at the top of one of my hills and watching you with the mini Ex that would be just the ticket.
Great job Mike! Might be a good job to fire up ol Blueford and haul the wood out.
WALLENSTEIN should let you demo one of their log trailers.
I was wondering whatever happened to the small package sawmill that you got in. Never seen you put it together and was wondering if you still had it. Enjoyed the land clearing this morning
I asked that question about 6 or 8 months ago and didn't get a response. It was sitting next to the woodshed on a pallet, but it's been gone for a while.
You're the kind of guy that usually has his mind made up and probably won't accept a suggestion but I would pull all those stumps out of the ground that you can get out because you'll never be able to plow your ground or till you're ground if you want to because those stumps will be in the way. I would also take this opportunity to make brush piles on the property in hidden places for your small critters rabbits squirrels deer turkey everything likes brush piles including your predators bobcats and coyotes and everything it all works together
Great to see the new clearing project. STUMP GRINDER=$$$$$. Restricted ability to grow new plants over ground up stump. Must remove wood chips. PUSH DOWN LARGE TREES AND STUMPS WITH EXCAVATOR=$ fuel cost. Unrestricted ability to plant new plants over smoothed over stump location. Something to consider. Havaday
you have a digger use it, I root wad all my trees make it a lot easier to get the stump out and git the dirt off. I have a Leading Edge Attachments Fang Rake. Really like it, doesn't have the braces between the teeth sure is a time saver. Will handle anything my 307E can dish out.
How will the invasive grass affect your plans?
I think a lot of those trees you could just reach up high with the excavator and push them over then the root will just pop out of the ground and cut them up and just pick up the root.
1:50 Too funny 😆🤣🤣 That is going to be a nice little meadow/orchard. I love seeing you out in the woods again and it sounds like you have good solid plan going on. Great video, love your channel. Thank you Mike. 👍
That saw rips through that Maple like a hot knife through butter!
Have always wondered how you keep your chain saw bars looking so good, mine the paint and logo seemed to wear off after a short time. Can’t wait to see the results
It's been a while since I felled a tree (not many grow in the desert) , good job Mike
Mike you need one of those log trailers you can pull behind your utv or tractor. Then you could haul 16' to 20' logs up to your processing area.
Hello! 🙂
Equipment that does regeneration cycles normally perform them based on hourly use cycles. So it is good to take a note of what the hour meter reads when a regen occurs. That way you can predict when the next one will happen. Otherwise it will sneak up on you at the most inconvenient time. Llike when you are in a time pressure. I do this with my dump truck because keeping a record allows me to know when to expect it but also if the cycle is short it can be an indication that the DPF or the DOC needs cleaning.
Also keep track of how long the regen procedure takes. This could also be a harbinger of needed maintenance.
Good morning!
Mike have you ever tried a kinetic log splitter like the super split? It is so fast and efficient. For that size wood I think it's hard to beat. Made in the USA also. I love mine
Most Organized Clean up during construction. Something i have to refine in my projects. Very organized .
Sure makes it look so easy. Just think how labor intensive that would be without that equipment.
You need your BigToolRack to carry all of your saws and such! lol
I laid my fire starter on a table in the hallway coming from my garage. As I walked in I kept noticing a subtle pleasant odor. Your fire starter is my kink of potpourri, I think they call it.
Novice here, why wouldn't you want to split everything into quarters? Aweome machine!!
Hey Mike, I’d get everything on the ground and cut into poles while you got good/frozen weather. Mud season might catch you.
Hey Mike what's biggest cherry tree that you have seen? I found a Grove of them here in Georgia at least 36" in diameter on a wma.
Something you might want to consider with some of your brush piles, Cover them with some of that beautiful top soil you have and grow your own fruits and veggies. Hugalculture. The brush will rot over time creating nutrients for a garden. Also does not have to be food, could be for flowers or food plots for game.
My experience with the stumps unless you can grind them down a foot or more they will always come back to haunt you when it comes to tilling just dig them up and burn them 👍👋🇨🇦
Also, dont forget about the stump roots. Just because you grind the stump the roots are still present which can be very problematic.
Good Super Bowl Sunday morning everyone out there in OWTM video land…Hey Mike, wouldn’t NOW be the perfect time to make your new road closer to the house? To eliminate the road that leans badly when you’re carrying heavy loads back to the wood yard. Just a thought.
Have a Day
Hello Hunter 😊
Greetings from No VT - I know one guy who uses Werk-Breu buckets, and he swears by them even though they are a little on the pricey side. He finds them much stronger and smoother action in all his work situations and well worth the price, plus they are made in the USA with really high quality steel!
I'm looking forward to seeing your future food plot. But, I don't understand why you want to bring in a stump grinder when you have a excavator? You will wish you pulled as many roots as possible when you get around to making a seedbed. Bring in a big chipper if you don't want to burn the stumps..
Hardwoods on the PA property. Softwoods on the WV property. Set for whatever you need.
Good morning everyone 😊 ☺
MIKE why don't you cut the roots around the trees on the opposite sides of where you want the to go and then push them over with excavator????
Thats how I would do it if it was me !!!! But its you doing it 😊👍👍
Hey Guys I My wife and I enjoy your videos those small trees sure wood go nice in a firewood processor keep up the good work and God bless your family
Hi Mike . Would it not be more productive to fire up Blueferd and haul with it , instead of the tractor
This is the project I’ve been waiting for. I’ve been planning something similar on my property but smaller scale. Looking forward to seeing this pan out. Great job Mike.
Wonder what it is that’s so satisfying to watch you dig and pull stumps out of the ground. If you were to dig out twenty of those stumps in a row I’d be mesmerized from start to finish. Don’t think I’d even blink, weird huh?
LOL. I’m sure the deer will love the new fruit trees. Sounds really great idea. “Food plot” for sure.
Hey Mike, that may be a good place to try out the new spitfire wood chipper I keep seeing
Notice how rich the topsoil is from years of leaf composting, should be nice and fertil for whatever you choose to plant, good deal.
Hi Mike,
I know that feeling of spring is coming. Been there. Nice video on clearing area.
Be well
The deer will really appreciate your efforts. What’s your plan to sane your fruit from wildlife?
First time seeing this channel. Great video,
I love watching a man cut wood an operate heavy machinery. That will make lots of fire wood..It is really nice to have the equipment
to help with splitting that wood. Very nice.
Welcome aboard!
That is a BEAUTIFUL spot! Wise move. Tons of potential.
I enjoyed our time together this morning, Mike. When the clearing is done & you start thinking of animals...think GOATS! LOL..they eat anything & will keep your Chinese grass in check. Greetings from the Old Jarhead in WNC
Oh yeah! Here we go! Great start on another great project. Always on the move and let me praise you and thank you for bringing us along. I do so enjoy all the projects of yours. It's just real life, good ideas being brought into fruition. Gosh, I could make a list of things I'm looking forward to here, but we all know what they are! You're just awesome Mike! You have a great channel going on here! I'm am always looking forward to seeing your next post! Bless you Mike, thanks!👍🚜🙏❤🇺🇸🇺🇸
I wouldn't grind anything. I'd mark the stumps with orange paint, and use the excavator to just dig them out, maybe 10 a day or so.
Great job Mike, it's going to be an awesome clearing when you get finished and you folks will have so much fun around there with the new place to play and work. Thanks for sharing with us, stay safe and have fun. Fred.
When you gather all the family members together to spend some time cutting and splitting firewood you should have two members on the WolfRidge and two members on the Mobile Splitter. Have both working at the same time and fill that bunker twice as fast
I agree about reason for small snowfall totals... I thought this when you bought it... LOL WV will definitely make your purchase a good deal...
Your lucky your trees come with ready made chalk marks.
I wish I lived closer so I could lend a hand. That would be fun.
Mike if you keep your angle cut to the bottom the butter the tree will hit the ground first and cause less cracks through the tree with the angle cut on the top the top of the tree always hits the ground first and sends a shock wave through the tree doesn't matter for firewood keep that in mind for trees you're going to cut you want the butt of the tree to hit ground first by putting you under
It's fun for me to see you shaking the dirt off the stumps. It looks like the stumps are doing the hula dance. Your doing a good job.
We haven't had rain here in Southern Britain in three weeks!
I don’t know how I could do without my excavator and tractor .
shaking those stumps will get the dirt off faster and more efficiently than picking them up and dropping them .. :)
