I feel like there is a lot of imagery in this song about heroin or opiods. Does anyone else hear that or is it just me?
Hmmm... possibly but I’m self-centered so I thought of my experiences tossing out people not healthy for me, bye-bye. 🤷🏻♀️
There are lines that refer to numbness and falling out of their chair from being "high," and these are typically pretty in the eye of the beholder as to what they might mean, unless the songwriter is more explicit about it. For me, the song is fundamentally about wistfulness and romantic regrets - the singer mentions having wasted many of their years "tongue-tied," when they could have instead been listening to whom the song is addressed. They've tuned out, procrastinated, numbed themselves, and are trying to show the courage they feel they've lacked by confessing these thoughts. The "life force," bit is the most cryptic to me. It's hard to really peg it as spiritual, romantic or something else.
