Simon and garfunkles original was filled with such despair, disturbs embodied anger, ptx held out some hope. Three versions of the same song took you all over the emotional range.
"Sound of Silence" was originally sung by Simon and Garfunkel, an American folk rock duo in the 1960s. It was written by Paul Simon, and they first released it in October, 1964. In the 60 years since then, it has been covered by numerous bands and singers, including, as you know, both Disturbed and #Pentatonix. Disturbed released their cover first; in many ways Pentatonix's version is a response to Disturbed. There has been much speculation about the meaning of "Sound of Silence." Because it was released shortly after President Kennedy's assassination, many people thought it was about that. Some people think that Paul Simon foresaw the internet. Some people think it's set in the aftermath of a global catastrophe, either nuclear war or climate change; this is apparently the view of Disturbed. But Paul Simon did talk about this, and here's what he had to say: "…we have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people. This is a song about the inability to communicate." However, since so many people hear the song as a warning of planetary disaster, the best version comparison I've heard goes like this: Simon and Garfunkel warned us. Disturbed is angry that we didn't heed the warning. And Pentatonix says that it isn't too late - we can still save the planet if we're willing to make the effort. Is Pentatonix right? I don't know. But I'm CERTAIN that if we just give up we lose, so I'm with Pentatonix on this one. If they're wrong and it's already too late, at least we'll go down fighting for our planet, and that beats the heck out of the only other option I see, writing an angry suicide note.
Please get some headphones 🎧. It really does make a difference in how the song sounds. The bass is so rich and it rumbles your chest. I didn't know this myself for 2 years and I missed out on so much. You will be happy that you did... Great reaction!! Congratulations on reaching 20k!! I hope your channel continues to grow. Hope you are doing well!! Sending you love from Texas! ❤❤❤
I think you assessment is spot on. The same song but a totally different emotion. I'm just really grateful we have them both. I don't even feel like I need to compare them. Their affect on me is like two different songs
One of my all-time favorite songs done to vocal mastery. Disturbed to me was like the warning of it being here, PTX left a feeling of hope. Both are FANTASTIC!!
Sound of Silence was a song I taught myself to play on the guitar in the 70s! Simon and Garfunkel were fantastic songwriters and you really should hear their original version of the song. As for Pentatonix....well, it's holiday season and they are the tops in Christmas and holiday music! I love their version of "O Come all Ye Faithful" and they won a Grammy for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (no words to it...fantastic!) Whatever your favorite song is, I'm sure they have covered it, as they do a Christmas album almost every year!
A version of this you cannot miss is by an incredible Korean soprano, SoHyang. She started out as an ardent gospel singer, and you will actually feel that in her rousing rendition. She is a master of drawing the audience in to her vocal world.
I was a big Simon & Garfunkel fan back in the 60's and 70's, and loved their original of the song. I also enjoy both the Disturbed and Pentatonix versions for very different reasons: Disturbed captured the darkness of the lyrics better than any version of the song I've heard, and David Draiman's dynamic and emotional performance was epic. Pentatonix, as they generally do, give us incredible harmonies, and their own powerful vocals as well. It's a much more hopeful take on the song than the way it was interpreted by Disturbed. Which one I like best is usually determined by how I'm feeling that particular day, and which one I've heard most recently. They both knock it out of the park.
I think you might enjoy Angelina Jordan original "Million Miles", a song she wrote about her grandfather's passing. Stunning, moving performance. You might cry...
The original, Disturbed's, and this version all paint a different picture using the same song, which I think is a testament to the songwriter. The original is a warning. Disturbed's version is angry that the warning wasn't heeded, and this version is hopeful that we've learned from the past. Check out the original and let me know if you agree! On a technical note, the music video audio was out of sync; their lips were a second or so behind the sound.
#PTX Recommendations: • "Hallelujah" ( a recent live performance, with Matt and a new arrangement: ruclips.net/video/Se0BmDdZuX0/видео.html ) • "Imagine" (the official video) • "The Prayer" • "Bohemian Rhapsody" (the official video) • "Run To You" (an original, written by Avi and Kevin) • "Happy Now" (another original) • "O Come All Ye Faithful" • "O Holy Night" (they did a totally new recording for their 2023 Christmas album; you can find the official video here: ruclips.net/video/ReJAU2mXm8w/видео.htmlsi=upj2Q3vLqigVEtgm ) • "Pure Imagination / Christmas Time is Here" (preferably the live Vevo recording) • "Kiss From a Rose" (preferably the live Vevo recording - both of the Vevo recordings are available on RUclips) • "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" • "The Lucky Ones" (an original, written by Scott) • "Thank You" (an original, written by Scott and his then fiancé, now husband, Mark Manio Hoying, shortly after the end of COVID lockdown, about how much easier it was to get through that time because they were together) • "The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth." This is a live feed from a concert they gave in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kevin's home town: ruclips.net/video/DbCasvcNx78/видео.html and this is the very special performance of "Kevin's Fifth" (without "The Kevin Show") from Kevin's birthday in 2022: ruclips.net/video/7m0g7xThIWs/видео.htmlsi=99F7iG5qkdgPCm43 Additionally, *if* you're familiar with _"The Wizard Of Oz"_ (the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland), I recommend "Todrick Hall - The Wizard of Ahhhs (ft. Pentatonix)": ruclips.net/video/QkVeKb2igrg/видео.html If you've never seen the movie it won't make sense, so take care of that first.
Tried so many headphones, even some that cost thousands. But I'm sticking with my 25 year old Logitech 5.1 speakers! Nothing under 10 000€ comes even close!
And if you like this particular song (regardless of the group), go catch the duet with Peter Hollens & Tim Foust doing it. A little different, but really good.
Without headphones you are missing 70% of what PTX is doing! The lead singer at the time is, of course, the primary focus, but all the back-up harmonies should not be missed and appreciated! Listening with headphones will enhance every PTX review!
Yes, you have to do the original, far better than the 2 covers in my opinion. Also, 3rd time of suggesting, do The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin, live at The Royal Albert Hall (2000 I think), you also should do the original album version (Days of Future Passed, 1967), there is a 2nd part that isn’t on the live one.
Only a couple of things here, for your own understanding: A lot of Pentatonix videos get blocked and mostly people don't understand why... Exactly. The reasons can be a lot of things, but the one that is prevalent, is the audio mix of the reactor's mic mixing with the audio of their official video and causing a misrepresentation of the actual song and recording purity. Your video was an absolute perfect example of this, with your microphone and ambient sounds mixing and misrepresenting the music. Please understand this and try to mitigate this in order for your videos to be released earlier by RUclips.❤
No earbuds or headphones? I have to say... as much as you liked it listening to speakers (even good ones) you haven't heard the song yet. If I am mistaken, and you DO have ear buds... please disregard.
Meh Pentatonix. The band that's wonderful post-processing. Everything they do seems to be a light version of someone else's live performance. Super Vocal light, Dimash light, Forestella light, etc... Try this exact same song "The Sound of Silence" live from the Super Vocal Boys if you wanna hear something really great.

What ever this group sings is great. You may watch them sing Imagine.
It's a great time to react to Pentatonix Christmas music; try "Carol of the Bells", Sugar Plum Fairy" or "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful"

And one that will make you "Smile" written by Charlie Chaplin, performed by the Louise, Lucy, and Martha Thomas. Short, sweet, and very uplifting...
Absolutely beautiful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Such a great cover

video was a bit off from the audio but glad you loved them. Go down the rabbit hole. Enjoy.
Recommend their cover of The Prayer.

you need listen to the original recording from Simon & Garfulnkel written by and played by Paul Simon !!!!!!!!!!!
Nice cover but nothing touches the original IMO.

Disturbed version is also a cover - the original is Simon and Garfunkel in the 1970's

Completely different from Disturbed-
I have enjoyed the majority of Pentatonix
Songs… A real talented group of musicians
you should try using headphones. They sound even better when u do.

Disturbed was an angry version. PTX did a joyful we still got a chance version.

you have to d a reaction to Whiskey lullaby.
Sound not synced with video - it helps when watching them
Try Geoff Castellucci's solo version -- a very different take.

This is one of my favorites by Pentatonix but i still prefer Simon and Garfunkle
I love Pentatonix, I've seen them in concert, but on this particular song, Disturbed did more to reinterpret the song and bring new meaning to it.

There's nothing better than the original. Nothing. This is my least favorite version of
this song. A great song though
