- The correct way to install a lever handle that has a curved shape is to have the curve of the lever point downward at the end.
For Schlage brand lever handles, changing the door handle direction or handing is really simple to do. All you need is a thin metal rod or a super skinny hex wrench. You are going to stick it into the tiny hole found on the shank or the stem of the lever and push in, and that will release the handle so that it can slip out. Then you just switch the handles between the two sides of the door. So, the handle that was on the outside should be put back on the inside and vice versa. The ridge on the inner side of the lever stem should be aligned to fit into this groove. Then you just push it back into place.
The handles do not need to be disassembled for you to be able to switch their direction. Just locate the small hole and push in with a metal pin or rod or hex key that’s thin enough to fit inside the hole, so that you can pull the handle off.

I really need help with my privacy lock. I have a similar lever style door lock. I’m switch door knobs so the privacy lock is on the door leading to the basement. Pushing the button in but the lever still moves freely on the other side. Any suggestions?
