If you think in a way, we are nostalgic for malls. But at one point, malls were replacing local stores. I personally online shop, but I do enjoy physically shopping, it’s just different. The mall experience was definitely a staple of 1970s-early 2010s America, going to all the stores..the food court.
I agree. I remember when the malls hurt shopping in our small town and most of the stores on the square closed.

Shopping malls are nothing like they were in the 80's and 90's but with online shopping now a thing none of us should be surprised. Most malls these days contain a lot of empty stores just sitting there unoccupied. We have a few nice malls in the Las Vegas area where the stores are still being occupied but still nothing like back in the day. Back in the day it used to be a popular hangout for teens with arcades and a good food court with plenty of options to choose from. Oh have times changed...gotta wonder if malls will still be around in another 20 years.
My mom sister and I once inadvertently visited a dead mall. Like, _dead_ dead, the only things open were a Lord & Taylor and the PF Changs where we had dinner. So many empty nameless storefronts, we could clearly tell what used to be what. Some time later I watched drone video footage of the mall while halfway demolished. Very interesting experience.
I hope that never happens to this mall. I’ve heard they are trying hard to fill stores again. I know it’s a struggle

My malls have closed down too, I’d love to see the malls being used for the homeless, they can have shelter and resources and an entire life inside some of the abandoned malls out there 😊😊❤❤

Hi Nancy I’ve been watching Christmas movies since September on the American channel. I believe that’s the channel. They have been on every Saturday evening since September. They are new movies. There like the hallmark Christmas movies. Great videos as always.

It’s taken time. Craig has made a lot of advancements in socialization in the past couple of years. I also had to find the right formula of things I could get him to participate in. But when we’re at home he still likes to spend 95% of the time in his room.

The mall in my town is the same way….so many stores are empty and the food court is very minimal…..it’s sad 😔. I remember as a teenager the mall was the place to be and hang out with friends & eat 😄

Wow it's been quite a few years since I've been to a malll. When I was a kid that was the spot to go. And getting a job at the mall definitely enhanced one's street cred lol
The older mall in the city where I live was turned into mixed usage. The wonderful thing about it was the food stalls stayed with some clothing and fun stores. The local community college expanded its classes to the mall. It's saved hundreds of thousands of dollars for the taxpayers too. Win, win❤😊

I miss malls so much and more specifically arcades. I’m glad I was around to experience all of it but by the time high school rolled around in 99/2000 they were dying and it was sad to see.

I usedd to love shopping in person at the mall and various stores but now it causes me such pain that I prefer to shop online and do grocery pickup if i can! It's sad really! My hubby said that the movie with Hopper from Stranger Things is called Violent Night.
I do love online shopping but I also love shopping in a store. Online shopping is so convenient though

It is really sad that malls are dying. The mall near me that I LOVED is now completely closed. The fact that it is closed is almost less depressing than it was to go in there and see all the empty stores. So many childhood/teenage memories there. The Blaze Pizza looks AMAZING. I didn't have any idea there was one near me, but I googled it because of your video and there is, so I will have to try it!
It’s very sad that they’re dying. There is one in Des Moines that is still very popular. But the others are not doing so well. The one closest. Now there are just stores on the outside which are great but there are so many things that I miss about that mall. Someday we will do a video about it.

i wanted to watch a xmas movie yesterday for some strange reason too! so i went to trusty hallmark and it had some movie about a ball player coming back to this hometown with romance of course ensuing ... but it did have a countdown to christmas and i think it was just 4 days!! crazy

They did it up good in the 80s with big malls and architecture.
Some of the 80s / 90s houses looked like a mini mall, especially coastal areas of the country.

Wow! That IS very sad. I guess future generations won’t know what a mall was. Everything comes to their door. That was an entire “experience”, going to the mall…. I think with every generation, the getting older and seeing the change is the hardest.
Yup my four year old son Xavier who has Autism does the exact same stemming on me and he’s dad that Craig does on Joe and Nancy and I agree it’s something he just has to do or doesn’t realize he’s doing it but I have said that both of my sons with Autism have exactly the same similar as Craig 😊❤
Beverly D'Angelo was always one of my faves. That's cool that she's in the Christmas movie Joe mentioned. I think she disappeared for a long time but she did have twins at one point in life so yeah life got busy.

Yes there’s no bath and body in Southridge Mall. The inside of the mall is vacant. You can walk in there. It’s sad. It’s in disrepair. We will go inside and show you soon.

I'm watching this months later. That Krispy Kreme's lobby is always closed. There's one in Ankeny but it's always out of donuts lol
So sad! I guess they don’t have enough help. Craig used to love going there and watching them make donuts.
One thing I don’t understand is that in the United States the malls are going under from what I have observed. I know in other countries like Canada and Thailand the malls are packed. I’m not sure what we are doing wrong in the states. I remember our malls being jammed packed and forget Christmas season is was wall to wall people.
I assume the malls are suffering because of online shopping. However there is one mall in Des Moines that is still packed.

the snacks you all taste tested were made in Taiwan. They do tend to produce many Japanese inspired snacks but tend to be sweeter. I learned from a friend that there's a special coating on Asian chips added to keep the flavorings from sticking to your fingers, which also makes it taste different from ours

I like Wikipedia too. It's fun to hit random and read some interesting stuff. It can be a rabbit hole for sure but there's lots of interesting things to find. I've not seen Emojis or Bratz movies but I believe Craig. He may be saying what he's read but the descriptions of those two movies seems legit.

The translation of it is a tree trunk like the picture on the bag, it's Dutch. Did another mall open up in town, that the one you guys went to has so many closed and empty stores ? ❤

We went to the big mall in our area and the only thing opened before 11:00 was The Apple Store and the 3 big dept stores, most not until 11:00 and a few after 12:00. Of course I had arrived at 9:30 to go to a store that didn’t open until 11:00. I just hope this isn’t the end of everything but Walmart and Target. I need to see and touch, my online shopping is usually a big miss!

Im glad you liked the pizza. I enjoy eating at blaze pizza too but unfortunately it causes my autistic teen daughter so much anxiety when ordering especially since there is always a long line and she feels rushed. They often can’t hear her over the counter or can’t understand her and she stutters and ends up so frustrated if she forgets something she wanted on her pizza or if they accidentally put something she didn’t ask for. I prefer to order for her but she insists on sometimes trying it herself. I get anxious too as it’s a trigger for a possible meltdown.
I totally understand that. The music was pretty loud and it was hard to hear the lady behind the counter. Which is something we are dealing with a lot lately. We always try to go to eat at 11 before restaurants get too busy. Craig has a hard time waiting too. I wish every restaurant had mobile ordering because it really helps

They need to turn these malls into a mixed usage buildings. Studio apartments, businesses and clinics would really work along with retail stores and restaurants.

@@ourdailyview It definitely feels like a movie where they were trying to appeal to people who love Christmas movies and those who love action movies. I'm not sure if they really succeeded in that or not, but it's definitely quirky. (You and Joe know best, of course, but I would definitely NOT recommend it for Craig.)

I agree, Craig. The Emoji Movie was pretty awful. I feel like a lot of movies lately are just cash grabs. I developed a fear of escalators recently! I discovered I get terrible vertigo when I ride them. A year ago I fell backwards while holding my daughter on one because I got so dizzy. It scared me to death! Luckily she didn't get hurt and I was only mildly bruised.

Not only should he hold the door open, but should have women go in first. This is something that can be practiced over and over, no real pressure. I'd also want him walking next to me, and not so far ahead. Just for safety reasons.
