      Wow! This comment had me really excited now! We will have to try and get this variety growing up in Georgia to see if it’ll hold up to the cold winters! That’s really going to be a fun experiment! Thanks for the information!

    So enjoying the collection of bananas. Here in zone 6a, Louisville, Ky., Have the Hardy Bananas, squirrels seem to dine on our bananas.

      Bummer. Our squirrels leave our bananas alone (for the most part). Now the mangoes, passion fruit, and avocados are a different story!!!

    What are all the varieties that grow 20 to 30 feet tall with huge leaves. I bought a house about a year with about 10 tall plants about 25 feet huge leaves . Previous owners did not have irrigation reaching plants . Now that I am watering the plant regularly it has multiplied and currently have 4 with fruit that are looking great. My problem is I have no idea what variety I have🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️?? I have been trying to figure it out . The plants are huge and the hands look great . Seems like 3 new sprouts every 3 months popping up also . I love them they are on my canal , wish I knew the type , have scoured the internet

      A couple huge varieties we have growing are kandarin, Saba, tall Orinoco, and Praying hands. If you have praying hands it will be obvious by the fruit, the others will be a bit harder to distinguish between. Hope this helps!

    How long does it take a banana tree to fruit once it is planted?

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  11 месяцев назад

      It depends on the variety and how and where you plant it- if planted in sun, gets lots of water/chop and drop/fertilizer occasionally praying hands, dwarf cavendish, Orinoco, dwarf Brazilian, ice cream/blue Java, namwa, sweetheart, Mysore are ones we have that gave us fruit in a year…once your patch of bananas are established the offspring will bring u fruit quicker. The first plant you buy and plant in our experience is a bit stunted and slower to get going.

      @@IslandsnHighlands ok it’s a blue Java, it’s not planted yet cuz it’s too small. It’s been transplanted twice into bigger containers each time. It is in full sun right by where I want to plant it. I’m in zone 10a, southwest florida. I’ve had it about two months. It was only one leaf when I bought it. I have been watering once a day unless it rains, then it gets rain twice. And I do chop and drop. It isn’t even a foot tall yet. But it has five leaves now and another one coming out.
