8:30 That's just Amsterdam specifically bc they're fed up with all the rowdy tourists.
Straight across the border from where I live, you can buy and smoke it without issue.
That said, it was technically never legal in the Netherlands, just decriminalised.
10:10 There is a distinction between addiction and dependency that most people don't know. There is no Cannabis dependency. There is no chemical pathway that makes your brain crave more Cannabis like there is for tobacco. That said, with both often being mixed, you can become dependent on joints (if just the tobacco in those joints). As for addiction, that is a psychological issue, not a physiological one. Depression, stress, boredom, loneliness,... all of those can cause addiction. Only brain chemistry causes dependency though.

I'm 100% pro legalization and a consumer too. Not getting stigmatized anymore feels so good and i really hope we'll find a good way to make it all work in the long run. Everything is pretty wild atm because we still don't have any shops. Cannabis Social Clubs were the plan but in reality they don't work at all. People who don't want to grow mostly get their stuff from pharmacies, which wasn't the plan in the first place but that's how it is atm.

The point is that Cannabis is much less harmful than alcohol. It is not just about the benefits of legalisation - consumers should not be marked as criminals. I am a German living in the Netherlands. I do not consume cannabis despite several coffee shops just around the corner. Nor do my teenage sons who of course tried it. The German hysteria is pathetic if you consider how much alcohol they consume legally.

Just a short list of some of the benefits of legalisation:
Literally billions saved in law enforcement costs.
People don't lose their jobs because they have a criminal record after being caught with weed.
If done properly, it actually drains the black market.
This impacts small sellers as well as major criminal organisations, the latter of which then will lose funding for their crimes.
Like I already said elsewhere, legalisation generally coincides with a shift of the consumer base, basically meaning that teens stop smoking weed. Since it's most harmful in your younger years, that's a good thing.
If it were sold and taxed, that'd be some extra tax money.
If it's legal for recreational use, people who actually *need* it for medical uses will have a much easier time getting their meds (which has been an issue before).
The inefficacy of prohibition makes the same unconstitutional, one could argue.
In a similar vein, alcohol (a more dangerous drug) and its consumers would no longer be preferrentially treated, which is also in the spirit of our constitution.
If all of these points were false (which, based on the statistical data available to us, they are not), there would still at least be the fact that a free society gets to decide freely with no real downsides. It's just a good thing. Like I also said before, it wasn't done properly but it's still better than the former status quo.

Attitudes towards legalisation, funnily enough, started shifting more quickly after legalisation hit.
When it was legalised, polls were split 50/50. Now there is clearly a majority in favour.
I'd say though that most people who actually smoke Cannabis at least occasionally (which might well be 10% of the population) are in favour of legalisation (obviously) but heavily criticise the way it was done. It's not really entirely legal, it's kinda legal, kinda just decriminalised and the idea of having Cannabis social clubs was just idiotic to begin with.
Also some other rules and regulations like mandatory distance from certain areas when you smoke etc (which makes it almost impossible to smoke Cannabis in the city while getting shitfaced drunk is not an issue), which were also exploited by Bavaria (they supposedly declared banks to be children's playgrounds bc you're not allowed to smoke weed near one of those, so virtually all of Bavaria is off limits).
It's a hot mess. But it's better than the hot mess we had before, I guess.
Edit: Forgot to add that whether you're pro or counter Cannabis, legalisation (from what we can tell) is the better way in either case. Prohibition doesn't stop consumption, it doesn't even limit it. But legalisation shifts the consumer base from teenagers to adults, which can only be a good thing.
