That's a double-edged sword. Because while it helped make The Idiot so big, it prevented Iggy from having any ideas of his own, and in the end it ended up being a Bowie product with Iggy's voice. That's why on the second album, Iggy asked Bowie to let him come up with more ideas.
There's a reason Lou Reed didn't work with Bowie for years.
