- From automatic confidant with little interaction, to "dating" simulator, Atlus went All-Out with Akechi. The one thing that "surprised" me the most in my first playthrough, was the option to ask Lavenza "what will happen to Akechi".

@@oinka right! Royal really improved Joker and Akechi's relationship so much, and just Akechi's character in general. I don't know what the hell they were on not giving Akechi an actual confidant in the original
@@zobozo5059 I've only played Royal so I have nothing to compare it against, but I hear a lot of people who played the regular version say Akechi was a really bland/bad character in it. I can't even imagine that. He's so fucking good in Royal that I'm literally changing 2 of the attacks on my main persona in my NG+ run just so I'm not covering his role and he has a place on my team.
@@coolhwhip49 In the original, Akechi's confidant was automatic which means it progressed through the story so you never hung out with him. Also, after Shido's Palace, he never returns. I wouldn't say he was a bland character but since you never even got to hang with him, the whole relationship between him and Joker just felt forced. Like how do you expect me to believe Joker and Akechi have this close relationship when they never hung out? Royal fleshed out his character a lot better by actually giving him a confidant, establishing Joker and Akechi's relationship a lot better and with the third semester, by having us seeing more of the real Akechi. That was the problem with him in the original in my opinion is that they didn't flesh him out so many people just thought his character was just this psycho killer when that isn't the case. I hope this may sense lol but Royal definitely gave Akechi justice

In the Spanish subs, Akechi outright says "I need practice for when I take you out on a date." I'm dead serious. I've seen comments that the localizations are a bit sketchy, so I almost can't tell if it was intentional or not. There's just no equivalent to "taking (someone) out" and they were translating from English, where that line exists. So they could've just gone with the straight up "killing you" version, which is obviously accurate. But someone on the team, either not knowing about the two different meanings or trying to be a troll intentionally, ended up being homosexual about it. I've always liked Joker and Akechi best as friends and it's still a pretty glaring issue, but it's so funny I'll take it.

Best character in the game. Also he is very well alive in the end, a figure with greenish uniform and a *left* glove? Yeah right, it's easy to pick Atlus' signals up
It's also worth noting that you don't see him (or the figure that resembles him) in the after credits scene if you didn't max rank his confidant so that confirms it even more.
There's actually an unfinished cutscene (there are clips out there on RUclips of people playing the incomplete version left in the code) which pretty directly implies that in the real timeline, Akechi does somehow survive the cruise ship, and he's still missing because he goes to some mountain resort that he used to visit with his mom, and he stays there for a while while he recovers from his wounds, regains his strength, and tries to figure out what to do with his life.

Its actually confirmed that Akechi is in rehabilitation after the events of the game. There is a removed cutscene and dialogue showing him talking to 2 people who are presumably rehab volunteers.

Common misconception: Aketchi’s rank 3 persona Hereward is actually a rank 1 fusion persona, Robin Hood and Loki are two different personas, He has access to both Loki and Robin Hood since he first joined the team.

Even if Akechi hadn't been the villain and got the treatment of the average party member, I still think he would be one of the most dynamic, fleshed out, and loved characters. Even before his reveal, he is open to an extent about how he hates Joker and why, and how he respects him too. There is no other party member in Personas 3-5 that has ever had a dynamic this believable and real. If he weren't corrupt, he would still yearn for that recognition and the excuse to be condescending to everyone around that, but he can't do that around Ren. In 3-5, with the exception of early Junpei, everyone looks up to the protagonist since he is a good leader and the most reliable in combat, and they accept that and ultimately blindly trust him. Makoto goes against the wishes of the party and sacrifices himself. Yu can become an accomplice, and the party would never suspect him. But with Ren, Akechi is the only party member to ever be open and about his distaste (besides maybe Makoto before stealing Kaneshiro's heart, before she's reassured) with any decision and open about his desire to surpass the leader. He is so disappointed when Ren chooses to live in the false reality, and expresses such. Akechi ultimately accepts that Joker is stronger, but he nonetheless constantly keeps Ren under pressure because he expects a lot out of him. If anyone is going to be better than Akechi, they better do a darn good job at it. Gosh I love this character
