An evening monitoring Russian groundforce military signals

- I take a trip out to the remote barn in the Peak District to monitor some military radio signals. I wanted to find out if there's any increased radio activity on the Russian military ground force frequencies.
I get to hear some counter activity being transmitted on the frequency known as the Buzzer. I'm not sure whether the music/noises being played is radio trolling by amateurs or something more strategic.
If you want to find out a little more about these frequencies and how to monitor military radio signals, this link is useful: priyom.org/military-stations/...
I'm a licensed amateur radio operator from the United Kingdom. My RUclips channel features videos focusing on operating portable radio from various locations plus how to videos, tutorials, insights and conversations in the hobby.
That's so cool... A storm, a radio and a gas lamp.
Man, that's life.
73 from Italy
Russian Strategic Bomber Morse Code occasionally on 8112 kHtz at 1120 GMT. They send cw pings at 2 minute every 20 minute when active. Russian aircraft normally on 8990 kHtz cw (monitoring from Alaska)
I love the great feeling i get when watching your videos, radios are so much fun.thank you.
THUMBS UP SIR!!! Amazing live stream. I loved it. Please make more like this if you can. Thanks.
Carl, I like your videos and I think you have a good variety of topics. I think you have hit a good balance between Ham Radio, camping, and cooking. Love to see the gear and the UK country side.
Many thanks and loved the lamp, have a few of those, used a lot on my beach fishing trips when I was a tad younger.
Hi. Karl. I am a short wave listener since 1969 from South Africa. But living on the island of Cyprus for many years. My radio Sangean ATS 909 X. Icom R70. JRC 525. Using long wire antenna. Plus ciao loop antenna from Italy. I have a mini whip antenna but it's prone to RFI. Many thanks for your time. Best wishes and 73 Costa Constantinides limassol Cyprus.
SDRs will pick up RFI from the host computer if you try to use an indoor antenna. Learned that the hard way. They work well on a good outside antenna. I use an SDRPlay model, but I like my Icom R70 better. I found the FM board for it and will sell everything else before the R70.
thank you
Monitoring SPOTA? "Spies On The Air" Cheers from across the pond
Ha SPOTA :-)
What a great spot for radio! happy days :)
I really like the Peak District that you go to, to play radio. It sure has all the requirements to make your radio outing very pleasant, I have to admit Carl, I really do enjoy your cooking segments, along of course with playing radio (hi-hi). Just keep doing them, I find your radio adventures very joyful, and peaceful.
Thanks, enjoyed that
Another good video Carl, i really enjoy your adventures. You should get yourself the AH-705 tuner for your 705, you could keep the tuner inside the barn over near the door and just run the antenna wire out the door and up a fibreglass mast or whatever.
What a pleasant surprise, great video and it was nice to see one of my EFHW transformers in the field.
Looks like a fun evening.
Looked like a awesome radio camp! Enjoyed the video!
This is such a great video OM! Thoroughly enjoy your little barn and roughing it with the ICOM. Really great. I have the KX2. Would have gotten the ICOM but it wasn’t available when I got the KX2. And a cooking show too… great!
You made me both very hungry and want to go out portable!
Very nice spot you have access to there Carl.
I can only hear the buzzer via Kiwi SDR from Europe here in VK.
I always enjoy your videos Carl. Thank you...73
What a great place to go to play radio and good eats. Cheers..KD2LMR
Looked like great fun Carl - nice relaxing video.
Hi Carl, great to see you out n about:) I've never worked or set up for 2m so would love to see a learners guide of how to set up for that.i.e setting up and using repeaters .you always making me hungry 😋
Wonderful. A little HF action and cooking all in one video cheers from Canada
Thanks Carl. Would love to see you send a wire antenna up - maybe an EFHW, held aloft with a kite. It seems you get enough wind there in the UK to get the wire up
These video are cool! I just got in to ham radio and am going to pull my trailer out next weekend for a trip similar to this….. thx for sharing!
Enjoyed this :)
A bit of a breeze, a good way of testing you antenna!! Great vid. WSPR is great for testing your station out. You could try a few 2m contests. Or more QRP with different antennas. Help the Foundation trainees etc understand how far signals can get.
I've listened on 2M WSPR for days and not heard anything :( hopefully the propergation will help in the future. FT8 works quite well tho.
Hi Carl. We’ve gotten the big winds here in the Northeast USA over the weekend as well... Everything you cook on your outing adventures always look so good. Did you ever consider doing a video and going into more detail about the dishes you are preparing? Kind of a cooking show, giving us the ingredients, amount to use, and how long to cook. I’ve gotten much bolder on my campsite cooking, but am in no way close your culinary masterpieces! Show us how to prepare some of those good looking meals!
Cheers Robert ok I'll plan to do that in future videos
Greetings from Portland, Oregon. I enjoyed your video. Thank you for doing it. You are definitely an asset to our wonderful hobby. Keep at it.... your videos are fun to watch and are informative. 73 de W0OKE (Whiskey Zero Oscar Kilo Echo)
A man who used his own seasoning mixtures...........excellent.
if you could, you try a loop on the ground for your receive? across the pond , I've been unable to hear the buzzer , I do however hear the t marker and some other sounds. glad you posted this. glad to have those freqs. so I can see what I can hear... thank-you 73, M0SZT de N3TGY -SW Pennsylvania
I'm in south west Pennsylvania too in Fayette county.
I'm thinking about getting into amateur radio but I have no clue where to begin.
@@RicArmstrong I'll see if I can help you out, I'm in Cambria

Thanks, you're over by Altoona right?
@@RicArmstrong no I'm closer to Somerset
How's about adding in a bit of time lapse footage of clouds or sunset/sunrises?
Or for a strange dizzy effect, attach a small camera to approx where your valve is on one of your wheels, for a bit of low speed weird sideways rotating footage of your location when parking up your "truck".
Tabasco do a great Chipotle Pepper Sauce but you can only buy the tiny bottles in the UK - I have to eBay in larger ones from the US or AU 🙄 but it is their only sauce I buy. Absolutely amazing in a minute steak sandwich 😗👌🏼
I think I will stay firmly in the house until the better weather comes !
Never thought of using a "pelican" style case as a portable spice case! Info on the pressure lamp your using? That is quite fancy barn you are working out of! Wish my location was RF quiet but the electric company has a very trashy and noisey electric grid her in SV9 land.
73 and good signals your way!
The Tilley Lamp is an X246 1980 British rail font
Great video! I am still waiting for voice transmissions from UVB-76! 73
Can't beat a tilley lamp! 😊
Any chance for some VHF/UHF operation later in the year. Thanks for an intresting video. 73.
Hi Carl brilliant video mate and the contact you made with just 10 watts is really good on the 40 meters and that very thin coax works well with your Icom 7300 mate and your dinner sounded really nice as well and I got hungry watching you cooking on your little portable gas stove mate and the food looked lovely mate and I bet it tastes brilliant once it was done and everything mate. Thanks and best 73's for now cheers. Stephen M3SNV 73's.
Nice.
I wanted to do something similsr using a translator app so as to translate the Russian to English. Unfortunately my location, Catskills of NY, is too distant to be able to pick the signsls up easily.
That's odd, I could have sworn you said tea... 😄 Here, the only thing that goes in tea from your ingredients list was what you almost forgot to mention at the end, herbs. We would call your creation stew. Looked yummy no matter what you call it!
Good video Carl (secret squirrel)👍
You can't beat the good old Tilley, I've got 2 ... essential camping and fishing equipment
Was going to say the same - great for both the light and heat
Looks like you did ok with that 174, mate.
I use that portable and at home! I set it up temporarily years ago and it just worked so well, I never changed it. SecSquir4lyfe
Spotted the Jammy Wheels on the toaster Carl.....those and Fig Rolls are my all time favourites, looks like the Aldi version thats even better....I cant just have one though I work on full packets with a nice brew !!! 73s Carl keeps those videos coming..73s Alan (G7WBB)
Have to ask... but why all the camping gear/gas lighting when your indoors and have mains electric?
The electric cooker broke and the Tilley lamp is a much nicer light, it heats up and also cuts down on RFI.
5:20 that audio distortion kinda sounds like tone from titanfall 2
S W radio is active here in Finland, many different sounds and more active bands

Great video this week, very enjoyable. Liking the IC-705, is it a new purchase? Keep up the good work 73s
The Icom is nearly 12 months old but last year was difficult to get out with it
Good one Carl 👍🏻 Proper Jammy Dodgers next time as I think those looky-likey ones with the star in the middle have less jam in ‘em 😮
Yes the Jammie clones were close but just miss the jam quality
Nice video for cooking.
Hi Carl - very nice video. Could you provide an overview in the description of the equipment you regularly use (also at home)? Modern transceivers are like they're from a different planet compared to the AR88 my Dad used to use in the early days! 73s Rob in Switzerland
Ok I’ll do a video on my 3 main types of radio I frequently use
@@M0SZT Great stuff! I can’t wait! I’m toying with the idea of getting my ticket for retirement. All the best, Rob in Switzerland
Tilley lamp lurk 😎🍻🍻
is it possible to know it's frequency?
Is it possible to encrypt the digital signal which is private or not audible though Only sounds as a human frequency be recognized?
Pocos QSOs. Muy buena la cena gourmet !!!! 😂
Often wondered, this is a commercial barn for hire to the public, or do you have some ownership? I'm an ex-SIGINT operator so this video is quite, err, interesting.... Ah you just said it's not yours. I'd be interested in staying sometime, though. Where is it?
HazelBarrow farm Peak District near Leek
Anyone recommend any entry level kit for a veteran who doesn't get out much
this is awsome wish i had a place like that.. is it for rent during holidays :)
Nice video, furthest or most contacts for the cheapest equipment/setup is an idea?? Not a brilliant one, but an idea. Based on the opposite assumption of a 9300 say 400w and a HF beam it’d be hard not to make contacts 🤔
👍👏👏
Have to admit I watch for the cooking as much as the radio
Excellent video mate. Could you tell me where the barn is? Cheers. Dave

🔥🔥🔥
The spamming on the buzzer is absolutely amateurs/other people with kit having fun. I errr… know someone who did it for a little bit.
Edit: this isn’t me outing myself btw, it’s definitely someone else I actually know, I just wasn’t sure how to word it
Hey Carl great video hey Carl did I tell you I got my radio to go wild camping with it's a allinco sr8 so can't wait for better weather to get out there 73 M7BYF
Brilliant!!
Russian signals, "Beep Beep Beep Beep yeah"! You make me hungry with every video Carl!
Speaks of Chipotle…. Just ordered some.
I keep getting satellite reception while scanning
Food looked very tasty. Enjoyed the video, cheers. KS5KY.
Food looks good
Can you give us some details on the case around your 705?
UK Amazon link: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B098XW75RF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
could you tell me what kind of case you are using with the 705 I think I want one . thanks good video .
It’s a DSLR camera case, a deep one, measure your 705 first then search for case
Hi Carl, another fun video, thank you. What is the jacket you're wearing at the end of the video please? It looks like it should be pretty good for cold weather. Would you recommend? 73 GM7MTK
It’s called a Softie jacket, ‘surplus issue softie jacket’ is a good google search
@@M0SZT Thanks for that Carl, I've found them. They look good
Another Bute carl, you have more patience than me in the kitchen, I still haven't found ours at home, when I was camping beans and sausage was my limit or the nearest pub in the lakes hi
Nice place though, I could easerly live there. 73 zl3xdj
Definitely do a video on cooking. “Cooking with a Ham “ 73 from the USA 🇺🇸 W2JEL
You could become the Gordon Ramsey of amateur radio cuisine. 😀
"don't worry about that rattle"
they're Skittles® 🙂
did you check the breaker for the stove Carl?
no breaker
where are you? - hunters lodge???
Where can i buy a WSPR kit like that and how much?
Sotabeams
You call that amazing little building a barn? Here that we would call that a tiny home. Or maybe a cottage or cabin. Calling it a barn is so beneath it.
What is that antenna-mast?
It's DX Commander 10m pole, it's quite happy being battered by gales.
+1 for Tesco own brand Worcestershire sauce. I get mocked here for being too cheap to buy Lea & Perrins at twice the price!
I thought you said you where making TEA. Then you started showing ingredients and my American ass thought "hamburger and tea, the fuck is wrong with this guy" LOL Maybe I need to wake before watching RUclips HAHAHAHA!!!!!
This is probably the most mainstream a regular (non-pepper type) shortwave video has ever gotten. Way to seize the opportunity and boooooo Russia boooooo
bring back.........the WOODPECKER!
Good evening. We are from Ukraine!
We're still waiting for those Russian ground forces Signals
Have you tried the websdrs based on the west of Ukraine, they pick up activity, it’s been feeding the OSINT community for weeks
What kind of portable unit do you have?
Hi, portable unit for what? Power, radio, heating?
@@M0SZT The radio :)
Aha, Icom IC705
@@M0SZT Cool, thanks!
You came here for 11:33 The military wont use ham frequencies.
The military, if necessary, can use any frequency. Without division into amateur, broadcast and specialized.
@@arenaengineering8070 No emergencies are happening at the time of recording.
priyom.org/military-stations/russia/the-pip
The Russians routinely use ham (radio amateur frequencies). They have been doing so since Soviet times. Especially the Russian Navy. Tune into 3596 Kilohertz CW in the late afternon and into the evening from say 1500 UTC and you will hear Russian Navy Black Sea Fleet Sevastopol, Crimea transmitting Morse to the fleet, both in plain text for weather and coastal warnings and also cipher messages later on. You may have to use an SDR nearer to Russia to pick up the signals.
@@Tomteeejay Awesome thanks!
Amateur radio and cooking rolled into one video! What more can you want?
What you do living?
I own a software research and development company
Looks like a lot of fun Carl! Do you have a CO2 monitor? The heater and light could cause a deadly situation! de K4TEN
Yes I’ve got CO2 monitor
CO is toxic, not CO2. With too much CO2 your breath accelerate by itself and you'll get tired and dizzy and would go to fresh air by yourself.
It is a WAR not a tension or conflict.
The CAPS were unnecessary my friend

It’s the [LEE] I need to practice more saying 😁
No need to monitor them on the radio for much longer. Open the door you’ll see he tanks moving past!
But NATO and the UN will be sending them a nasty email anytime now saying they aren’t happy 😉🤷♂️
