      Out of curiosity, how do you think it would turn out if you put a giant acrylic panel or some other diffusing material in this build, similar to the hexagon nanoleaf project? Do you think it would have enough light in there to look cool?

      @@chasetreadwell8191 I had the same idea and I tried putting some acrylic in front of it and it looked great! Might make a video of that sometime. But you might need to adjust the size of the hexagon to fit the piece of acrylic. Great suggestion!

      I learned from my grandfather, he was a skillful oldschool carpenter, that all these operations we can make just with a miter box, handsaw, hand jigsaw, hand drill, chisel and a hammer.
      Also in soviet Russia we had a school lessons of hand making some things - such as shelves, stools. And all these stuff we made without any machinery. Just with hand tools.
      You can do more that you think!

    I'm curious as to why you cut the boards with the miter saw, then did the angles with the table saw. Does your miter saw not also tilt to the side to do those angles?

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  3 года назад

      Great observation! The miter saw can definitely do it. However, I tried making a hexagon using the miter saw and then with the table saw and the hexagon I made using the table saw turned out a little bit better. My miter saw might need to be tightened a little since there is a little wiggle as I'm brining the saw down which might explain why the cuts were not quite perfect.

    I would never make these cuts with just a fence, a miter gauge would be my minimum to feel comfortable safely making these cuts and I'd more likely use a crosscut sled. Everybody gets to make their own safety choices but I would never cut anything with the short edge of the work piece against the fence, the odds of twisting and kickback are too high for my comfort.
