Such an underrated gem of a film. I don't understand why it wasn't a success when it was released at the time. And Lea is by far, at least in my opinion, the actress he had the most on-screen chemistry with, including more than with Romy Schneider and his own wife, Nathalie. Lovely video!
Audiences in 64 may not have understood the ramifications of the Algerian Putsch, desertions and hostage-taking. European economies thriving, and in London they were distracted by the arrival of the Beatles and other commercial nonsense. To Delon's credit, this was an auteur film of substance with a serious subject matter. But like most of his works, L'Insoumis has long lasting appeal with a strong historical marker. He and Messari just gobble up the screen without saying a word. Ahhhh.
Tragic love story. Dominique ( Lea Massari) is a lawyer taken as a political hostage after the Algerian war. French Foreign Legion war deserter Thomas Vlassenroot (Delon) falls in love with her during captivity and frees her but takes a bullet. Now he's on the run whereupon the tables turn and she helps him escape Algeria. With the help of her lawyer husband for whom she no longer cares, Thomas finally returns after six years to his family bee farm in rural Luxembourg. Upon entering the farm home alone, he sees his little daughter but collapses and dies from his unattended wound. Dominique still outside with her husband and sensing Thomas is gone, cries out his name in anguish hoping he hears her. She learns minutes too late that he was indeed her true love. Thomas' epic line during their escape: "If you ever make it to Luxembourg, I want to show you how honey is made." The brilliant writing of Delon's friend Jean Cau, Delon's incredible acting and his chemistry with Massari make this film shine.
Completly agree. Their love story was so short lived, but somehow very intense and believable, they portrayed it as if these two characters knew each other in previous incarnations lol. It's probably due to Delon and Lea's chemistry, which is off the charts, they managed to make a better love story in a 1 hour + film where their characters don't even interact in all of it than other manage to pull in entire series. Props to the writer as well for this.
Alain Delon was a beloved actor who brought joy to countless lives through his performances. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this challenging time. #RIPAlainDelon --- "Life is a long journey, take every step well, and cherish every emotional life along the way. Many people are divorced, broken up in love, and still scolding their past lovers. Master Lu tells you that life is a train that never returns. From the start to the end, no one who gets on and off the train will accompany you through your whole life. Be grateful to them and cherish their company with you these times spent." - Master Lu, Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door

Alain & Romy are a Perfect 💑 couple. Their Both Gorgeous .
I agree with you. Lea and Alain have hypersensitive faces. In french, we say « écorchés-vif », don’t know how to translate this word.
Another actress matched Alain perfectly: Annie Girardot. Particularly on the Duomo, in Rocco. So touching…
Romy was without any doubt the best on screen and off...And the lovevof Alain life 100% ....💥💋👑💖🇺🇸🐐🌠
