No one will ever top Mark Hamill's Joker. He and Kevin Conroy was a dynamic duo we never knew we needed. Kevin's passing hit the Batman fan base very hard. Kevin, RIP, and keep us safe as Batman in the skies!!
Heath Ledger was the definitive live-action Joker for sure, but Mark Hamill will ALWAYS be the definitive voice actor of the same, I agree! Even when some other voice actor is doing an animated thing, it's always VERY clear that they're just trying to do a Mark Hamill thing. When I'm reading a Batman comic book and the Joker has dialogue, I'm imagining it in Mark's voice, and I don't think I'll ever NOT do that! Fingers crossed that the next time we get a live-action Joker, the guy will have a great Mark Hamill voice. Don't get it twisted, Joaquin Phoenix was great, but to see mista J with a Hamill voice... I'd see it in theaters probably 3 times in a row if it's done right!
2. Without Batman, Crime Has No Punchline And that's what was behind Mark Hamill's official retirement of voicing, The Joker. Without his "Batman" aka Kevin Conroy he felt that his "Joker" no longer had it's Punchline 😛 and it was this very episode that Mark Hamil gave his reason for finally, officially retiring his Joker 😝
Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill really did go a long way ever since the first episode of Batman the Animated Series, it's sad that my camel said that he's no longer goes it's fun as Joker because without his former friend Kevin Conroy as Batman, so the Joker has officially retired from the DC Animated Universe
As someone who has seen every single thing that Mark hamill has voiced Joker in, I can honestly say that his best ever and most terrifying performance as the Joker is from Batman Beyond Return of the Joker. I don't think anything tops his performance in that film.
It goes without saying that Mark Hamill's Joker is the most iconic version of Joker there ever was and ever will be, No one but no one could ever top Mark's performance of the character...At least not vocally.
It's my opinion when many people think of The Joker, Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson come to mind. But personally Mark Hamill is and has always been my favorite. The various ranges and intensity from somewhat comical to absolutely sinister is amazing and gives me goosebumps at times.
@@Taeufler I couldn't agree more with you. When I heard that The Joker was gonna be the main villain in The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger was casted. I was definitely excited to see what Ledger & Nolan had envisioned for the character. Needless to say, like everyone else who saw the film I was blown away.
Out of all the jokers ever in all genre, I think Mark Hamill had nailed it totally. the vocal characterization was spot on. you actually believed has was a psychopath.
I saw a short a few days ago and it showed Harrison Ford being shown a good impression of himself by Mark Hamill. I saw the comments there and when someone commented about his role in Batman: The Animated Series as well as other series like the OG Avatar series, many others either didn't believe it or wrote disparaging comments on that subject. I think those commenters were either dumba**es or total ignoramus...
Finished watching my husband play the Arkham games a month ago. The joker in those games was incredible and terrifying. Hats off to Mark Hamil for giving our childhoods a terrifying yet kooky villain
For over 20 years, the ‘Star Wars’ icon did an amazing job voicing few Joker versions. Sadly, Mr. Hamill won’t voicing his Joker anymore after the tragic death of one of his good friends, Kevin Conroy.
Mark Hamill originally said he wouldn't voice joker again unless they made an adaptation of the Killing Joke, which they have now, but I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to pick up the character ever again now
@@anachyinuk Mark Hamill's past criteria: -He's always down to play the Joker if he's acting opposite of Kevin Conroy. -He's willing to reprise his role for an adaptation of _The Killing Joke_ or _Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth_ (This was a statement he made after he announced he's retiring playing the Joker after Arkham City. He quickly took that back not realizing how addictive the role is.)
Hamill singing from the killing joke movie was one of the best Joker scenes I have ever seen. Wish he got to sing more before he retired from playing the character
Mark Hamill has to be pleased with himself, he's been two of the most iconic characters in film/animation history, first obviously - Luke Skywalker in the wildly successful Star Wars franchise, and after that he gave one of the greatest depictions of "The Joker" that has ever been on screen, in the also massively successful 1990s - Batman the animated series. The money must be nice too.💰
You forgot mark hamill also played the trickster in the 90s flash tv series as well as in an episode of the justice league animated series and in the CW flash show.
I just hate to be the bearer of bad news but due to Kevin Conroy's Death in December 2022 Mark Hamill had decided to retire from voicing the Joker meaning he will no longer voicing the Joker never ever again.
It’s funny Mark Hamill plays one of the most iconic heroes with little to no personality and then plays one of the most iconic villains with all the personality in the world
If a villain becomes like the Joker they are too far gone, he's the point of no return. As alfred said in one movie something that perfectly describes him: Some men don't have any real plan, some men just want to watch the world burn. I also loved the killing joke movie.
Mark Hamill's Voice Acting Performance as The Joker Throughout the Years of the *Batman* franchise was Super Incredible, Remarkable, Scary and Terrifying. Mark Hamill did a Spectacular Job. He will ALWAYS be the Best Suitable Voice Actor of The Joker.
Mark Hamill's Joker was the best this world has ever seen. He's our favorite. Some of the crazy lines he said in that iconic voice he used for the villain are legendary now. Mark Hamill will always be the voice of the Joker for us.
Fun fact: “Laughing Gas” is a real thing. It’s also known as nitrous oxide, and it’s a type of sedative used primarily in dentist offices. A mask is placed over the patient’s nose and the gas is pumped through the mask, making the patient feel relaxed, floaty and a bit goofy, often causing the patient to laugh, hence why it’s called laughing gas
Yeah, and Joker basically took this and dialed it up to eleven, making a toxin that causes you to laugh so much that you can't stop for air and die of suffocation.
Joker's death is always my favorite from Hamill. I like how Joker, knowing that Bruce is Batman just toys with him. He spent his entire career up to that moment, doesn't care and finally pinned him in the spot he's most venerable. Excellent writing, only Batman didn't get the final punch line. That's the only thing I didn't like, but either way I know Batman wouldn't have killed Joker either way.
It was Mark Hamil's timeless portrayal of the Joker that inspired me to choose Joker's Villian path for the fifth episode of Batman's second TellTale season. Mark left Anthony Ingruber some big shoes to fill, and he didn't disappoint. We need a third season.
No one can deny the amazing performance of Mark Hamill's Joker, the one problem I have with this list is it doesn't have all 3 of the Joker's appearances on Justice League, I mean the lobotomized Joker from the Justice Lords episodes was so creepy. That at least deserves an honorable mention.

The uncut version of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker particularly Our Family Memories has always stayed with me. Chilling stuff. Mark Hamill's Joker is legendary as is the late great Kevin Conroy's Batman xxx.
Mark is PERFECT Joker!😁 No one like him. So much emotions, dialogues. He deserves several Oscars. Such a shame he won't be Joker anymore. Totally awesome!😁
Great meta joke when Joker disguises himself as Commissioner Gordon's dentist and exits the scene with a jaunty, "May the Floss be with you!" ROTFLMAO....
Mark Hamill will always be the best Joker. Whenever I think of Joker, I always picture Mark’s voice. He brings out the funny evil side to the character that no one else can. He always comes up with the most cruel yet hilarious lines. His Joker laugh is the best and I personally think it can be used as a security system to scare off burglars! 🤣
Mark Hamill is my favorite joker and he is also the VOICE of joker. Joaquin Phoenix and Heath Ledger may be the best physically actor of the joker but Mark Hamill is the VOICE. It's sad we won't see his joker anymore since Kevin Conroy Batman died rest in peace, I will always remember and acknowledge how incredible Mark's Joker is and will always label him the top 3 best Joker
I still think it’s funny. From the young adult who shaped one of the most iconic protagonists of all time, to playing the world’s most insane and terrifying jester.
Joaquin Phoenix, Heath Ledger, Jack Nicolson, you can have a favorite depiction. But you are crazy if you say Mark’s voice is not iconic and the definitive comic book Joker voice. Besides, if Joker’s going to have a best version, I prefer it to be multiple choice.
Great sadness that Kevin Conroy is gone ,but also great sadness that Mark Hamill hanging up his Joker voice. But thank you Mark for the memories you & Kevin provided for me.Will always enjoy hearing you both on my DVD/ BluRay .Best to you & can't wait to hear you or see you again on another project.❤️🙏👍
It's sad that we'll never get another Mark Hamill Joker performance, but his reason for retiring from the character is as understandable as one can be. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, the best duo to ever perform the characters.
Kevin Conroy, RIP. Thank you. You know what's sadder? I had a chance to meet him! Boston Comic Con 2022...He had a booth, and there was a line..and I heard his voice say "OH hello! Nice to meet you!" I froze up when I heard him speak. I couldn't breath...I couldn't move...IT WAS THE GODDAM BATMAN. I wanted to get an autograph, but I'd maybe faint....so I went to see Steve Blume. (FTR...Brendan Fraiser was there...and no one was at his booth! He was looking at his phone, and someone walking by yelled out "WE LOVE YA, BRENDAN!" I think he blushed!)
Imagine “Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes” trilogy was made into an animated trilogy and Mark Hamill did the voice of William Afton/Springtrap, he would make the notorious Purple Guy terrifying.
I'd always liked Mark Hamill as The Joker but have to be honest here, I'd never seen him terrify me as a Kid or teen when I watched this show. I was ALWAYS ENTERTAINED by him. He was the best!
For those that do or don't know this already but Tim Curry was originally going to voice The Joker on BTAS now for someone who has watched the "test footage" he made a horrible Joker 😂 So it's a very good thing , Mark Hamilton was cast instead of Tim Curry 😝 Tim Curry is still a pretty good voice actor on his own with voicing Captain Hook in Peter Pan and The Pussies 😆 on Fox Kids 😛
Noticed that you used the Unrated footage from the Batman Beyond movie. amazing. Stilll good. But.... to quote mark, "Without Kevin Conroy, the joker has no punchline."
I don’t know about you guys, but when the Joker got shot by Tim drake that wasn’t nearly as violent as hearing him get electrified at the end of the censored version And a lot of people ask, would you save the joker at the end of Arkham city honestly yes
#6 Was the best of early Justice League "I know how The Bat thinks..." But for me, it's Batman Beyond's Rise of the Joker where McGuiness gets under his skin. "Don't you dare laugh at me!" and he blind fires grenades and BEATS Terry.
I have to disagree with the idea that the laugh at the end of Mask of the Phantasm is his best. I prefer the laugh in "Injustice for All" when he hits Batman with the bag. See, it wasn't a bag of rocks. It was a bag with a rock in it. He had struck Batman so hard that the rock broke into tiny pieces. So when he starts laughing, Hamill doesn't just laugh, he builds it up slowly. It's perfect.
I think one that always gets overlooked is the New Batman Adventures episode Harley and Ivy. When Harley gets kicked out instead of crawling back she tried breaking out on her own and end up teaming with Poison Ivy. Together they become a great team and start getting press coverage that gets back to Mr J. The scene that stands out most for me is one night Harley comes home to find Joker sitting in the dark waiting for her. It is a moment scary for how real it seems. That could have been any abuser waiting up for his ex that thought they'd broken free. The fact it was Hamill's joker made it all the worse.
Frankly, a good terrifying moment that I would add to the list is Joker's return from the Batman Beyond Movie when he shifts from Tim into Joker. Loved the list though. Good coverage.
Jokers Death in Batman beyond: return of the joker. Truly it couldn't of been anything else for no.1, the sheer brilliance of Mark Hamills performance has permanently left an estranged twist of fear and awe. That very line that leaves you with chills as it sums up the joker to the very core... "It'd be funny if it weren't so pathetic.... oh what the hell I'll laugh anyway HAH HAHAHAHAAAA!"

Batman Beyond Return of the Joker. Finding out what he did to Robin was bad but when we found out he knew who Batman really is, that was terrifying.
And then it was revealed that it was just a disappointment to him since it made Batman human.

See, it wasn't a bag of rocks. It was a bag with a rock in it. He had struck Batman so hard that the rock broke into tiny pieces. So when he starts laughing, Hamill doesn't just laugh, he builds it up slowly. It's perfect.
They'll never find a better Joker than Mark Hamill.
The episode when he unwittingly kidnaps the kid, then puts Batman in the water tank so the kid can watch Batman drown.
i love that joker laugh
One bad day line hits different now
The greatest Joker ever. Period.
But heath is the best joker too you know
don't forget they made a tv friendly one for The Return of The Joker...that was also brutal
It was made because of Columbine.
3:15 true, thought he is motivational at times as he has told Bats to get back up
Everyone makes fun of Croc for his "I threw a rock at him!" story, but they forget that Croc was actually Batman in disguise that entire time.
Mark Hamill's laugh, giggle and crackle makes me have a big smile on my face and makes me laugh
Y’all gotta do a funniest joker lines … cause that scene when he says he paid for a flying car after finding out Bruce was Batman is hilarious
Mark Hamill’s Joker is the best Joker of all time
"Killing Joke movie isn't all that great" that has to be the stupidest sentence in history of WatchMojo.
