I got to shake his hand last year at the big Tulsa gun show. Super nice guy, asked about what I was carrying, had a nice chat all in about 2 minutes and then we went our ways.
Had my 930 for many years now. Not 1 failure. Will fire any shell I put through it. Have 2 barrels for it. 1 for hunting, 28" and 1 for home, 18.5". It's my favorite gun.
@no candy He'll never take gun company sponsors. He wants to remain unbiased, and I respect him immensely for it. I know he'll give it to us straight with no mind paid to upsetting a manufacturer.
A Mossberg fan all my life . I have collected 500, 590, 930SPX with a pistol grip, and finally the 940 pro: Sweet Shotgun. For me a Mossberg is dependable and affordable. MOSSBERG FOREVER !!!
You are hilarious! I went for ammo at my local shop, saw this Mossberg and she talked her way into coming home with me. I have never owned a shotgun or shot one either. I found your videos and have been very entertained. Thank you for your expertise and sharing your advice.
I've had my full size 930 for some years now, and I have put well over 500 rounds through it in about 2 hours or less. It's never once misfired, jammed or anything else until I went and tried to shoot it as fast as I could, and that's only because I have an extension for 10 total rounds, and eventually I still being able to hold it well enough. When you tether it to the table and blast off as fast as you can, it never fails.
I like the ability to keep your eyes on what's happening and load with left hand keeping hand ready to shoot. No replacing mags or running out at the wrong time.
Ive been running a Mossberg 500 for years as a shotgun. I have an 18: and full length barrel for it. Primarily running the 18", but the barrels change out ridiculously fast!
Really glad to see you finally review a 930SPX. I've owned one for a couple of years now with the pistol grip and in coyote tan. I think you'd love the pistol grip if you'd try it on this gun at least, really tames the recoil and control. You did pick one of the hardest kicking shells I know of but like you I love to shoot them once in awhile. No doubt they are very powerful and would be an excellent choice for close range deer. I prefer any of the Federal Flight Control ammo in mine. It more than doubles the effective range of buckshot. Amazing stuff. The first thing you do with a 930 is shoot and shoot and shoot some more. They do require quite a bit of breaking in and you'd be amazed how dependable they are after that. Also one of the first things to do take it apart and throw the factory pusher tube in the gas system in the trash can and put in a 3-Oragun perforated pusher tube in it. Will increase dependability by 99%. I love mine, excellent sights, nine shot capacity if you ghost load it and this is one of them that you can do that with and very dependable. With all that said they do like a lot of cleaning and if you will use something like wonder lube 3000 plus, (Which is pure carnauba wax) , instead of petroleum based oils the carbon will not stick nearly as much in the gas system and they will run much longer between cleanings.
Seriously, this video helped me make my decision if I wanted to buy one of these. For me personally, I’m getting one. We all have different needs- and that’s why I seek out long form reviews that highlight the experience of the shooter. Thanks Hickock45!
I for one appreciate you being aware and take into consideration that new shooters may be watching. I know NOTHING about a shotgun and am looking for a sole home defense firearm. Your videos help me as I decide which shotgun to choose.
I took my 930SPX out to the range two weeks ago and used 3" slugs and it felt like someone was punching me in the arm. It sure was accurate though and it shot flawlessly! It's a very reliable shotgun and is a poor man's Benelli!
I have the same shotgun. Little tweaks here and there and its been awesome! Big one was the OR3GUN spacer tube, functions much better with lighter loads for practice. Still trying to get the lifter welded up but its been a great shotgun.
My 590 has been upgraded with an 590 A1 trigger group and some magpull furniture. Could not be happier with it . Over 3000 + rounds and have never had a failure on a wide range of shells. Looking forward to and saving up for a 930. Thanks Hickock for the review. Aloha from Hawaii.

Once again one of my favorite videos/review. Once the 930 is broke in it does feed reliably. I can shoot low brass and high brass with no issues. I have even run different rounds , field, slugs, buckshot and so on loaded in the tube at the same time with absolutely no issues what so ever. I do own a Blackwater version which I prefer due to the lower sights. I have added a LPA rear with green fiber optics and a Wilson's combat front red fiber optic. And I have replaced the stock with a Mesa tactical with the limbsaver option. I had to break it in once again. I have added a better safety magazine and shotgun follower with a OR3GUN as well as a Magpul barrel clamp with sling attachment and a accessory rail for a light. Not a forend tactical rail but one that fits on the magazine tube and can be placed in 3 different positions. And of course a Mesa Tactical side saddle. I do trust this shotgun in a defensive situation where lives are at stake. But I have trained , drilled if you will and I understand what rounds feed well and work under pressure. A jam is always a possibility. So training on reloading and clearing is a must. With a pump you could short shuck it in a tense situation. So whatever you choose train and re train and shoot the shells you plan to use for self defense.
I bought a 930 a few years ago and had nothing but problems with it. Sent it back to Mossberg and it took them over a month it get it to shoot right. Got it back and still had problems with it. Been in the cabinet ever since.
Have had this exact shotgun model for some years and it's been perfect. Very reliable and it shoots 2 3/4 slugs very accurately. Great shotgun for the money, plus it functions perfectly with light field loads. Also have an old Benelli M1 configured exactly with LPA sights just like the Mossberg and similiar length barrel. They look like one another. The Benelli functions well too even with field loads but it is much older and has been broken it until it now functions with everything. Great shotguns, both the Mossy 930 and the Benelli M1. Life is good.
I love my 930. I have a jm pro. Its been reliable for 1000 rounds. Ive played many games of trap it has never failed me. i wouldnt mind picking up a sfx
Great video as usual. I’ve had my 930 “blackwater” edition for 4 years now and love it. Yeah, “blackwater” and a buck and a half will get me a cup of coffee at Denny’s. It has the pistol grip. Got it for a really good price. Shoots great.
I got a 930 home defense with just the bead sight from Walmart few years back 399.00 on clearance for 299.00. Just got a ruger mini 14 ranch rifle 767.00 on clearance 599.00 . My local Walmart doesn't put much effort into selling firearms so they sit unsold in the display case for a year. They got a Henry big boy 357 and a 44 magnum waiting for them to go on clearance.
Still have my Ruger Mini ranch from 17 years ago. Walmart clearance for I think $497.00, maybe a little less. Still one of my favorite rifles and I kept it pretty stock, only having the trigger and action worked on 10 years ago, and a barrel change (it gets shot a LOT). I only recently converted it to my truck rifle, with a small T1 red dot and a Klarus X11GT light to throw some white light several hundred yards out at night/dusk/dawn or as a makeshift entry rifle if emergency happens.

I nabbed a used first gen SPX for $430 at a pawn shop. I've since read that the 1st gens were nearly nightmares for a lot of folks but I must have finally gotten lucky with a firearm purchase. Mine runs FLAWLESSLY
I'm poor. only got a rifled 590a1 and a Taurus .45 acp semi-automatic high capacity pistol that's why this channel is my go to for all the firearms that I'll never be able to own. pretty happy with what I have and I know when shit hit happens, I got more than enough hardware to defend myself and my family
I ran this gun through a 4 day tactical shotgun class at Frontsite. Over 500 rounds in 4 intensive days of training with no unintended failures. Slugs, Buckshot, and Birdshot. After that I sold all of my pump guns. This is my favorite shotgun of all. Accurate, reliable, and less recoil than a pump gun. However, it is substantially heavier.
My favorite thing aside from it being a good, reliable, and affordable semiauto shotgun is the safety switch. There's something about putting the safety switch next to the trigger that makes a safety less safe compared to the thumb safety switch... that and it makes it much easier to operate with either hand without breaking cheek contact with the stock.
Mossberg is one of my go-to shotguns. I own a 500 20 gauge with a full choke. I like to do skeet shooting when I can and I go up against some of my buddies with a 12 gauge using the 500. Hits the target every time and easy to bring up from a low ready. Has yet to let me down. Shotgun is balanced and fun to shoot.
Cool how you can see the slug traveling to the steel. Love my 930 SPX. Mossberg shotguns are bulletproof and reliable. Their performance far exceeds their price. My father has had a model 500 pump 12ga since the early 70s and is his favorite hunting shotgun. It came from the factory with a twist adjustable choke (cylinder to full).
I have to say Hickok..everybody love's putting the hurt on steel target's with 12 gauge slug's , I know I do..LOVE that clang!...KEEP ON ROCKIN IT!......hickok45....................
probably shot around 250-300 shots with my new one, seems great so far never failed to cycle even the cheap walmart crap. The magazine is a bit tight at first.
The Magnum Channel: If you have Instagram and follow Hickok45, he has a photo of a used Winchester 1300 Defender that he bought a few weeks back at a Kentucky Gun Show. Hoping he has a video of that up, SOON. 👍👍👍👍
Joe Ruiz... I don't have Instagram but I DO have a 1300 Defender that I've have for decades... I hope he does a video on it because it's a smooth pump.....
Ethan Edwards: The wife and I have 2 Winchester 1200/1300 Defenders, and THEY ROCK. Better than any post-2008 870's out there. We've had a few 870 owners at our gun club try to make offers for one of those Winchesters, but we ARE NOT giving them up.
lukeum jones: My Pop-Pop willed me his 1985 made Remington 870 Wingmaster Police Magnum, and I would NEVER give that gun up. My actual point is that Remington has had quite the fall from grace since 2008 regarding the quality standards that they set from the late 1960's to about 2008. I won't buy any new Remingtons until that company finds it's way again.
I have one of these and I love it. If you use 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells don't worry about one popping out onto the elevator... It won't affect the cycle...
ive had my mossber 930 spx for 2 years, the only hang ups ive had were with the cheap bird shot roungs. 2 total failure to extract. but once i cleared it, I didnt have that problem. but with premium ammo, NOT ONE hang up. keep it clean, and you will be golden, I love this gun so much! if you are thinking about getting one, DO IT!
I finally pulled the trigger on this baby I've been dreaming about for as long as I can remember. I feel like a child the night before mas and I'm not at all ashamed. Tried to get it delivered on the 4th being that it's my b-day but the 6th wil be fine. Happy 4th of July Sir to you and your family. But mainly ,thank you so much for all your content that has really expanded my knoledge with firearms. My collction is in the single digits but it's more than enough for me. At 62 yes of age ,it's not the quantity anymore but the quality. This is also why I've always conferred with you via RUclips prior to making any purchase. If it's got your stamp of approval it's more than good enough for me. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Willie Beaman I’ve had mine for almost the same time. The thing is, I didn’t originally order it. I ordered a 4+1 with the breacher on it. Apparently Bud’s was out of those so they sent me the SPX! At first I was mad cause it didn’t come with the breacher. But I kept it anyways because I was using it to get my CLEET Cert. I fell in love with it on that day.
The safety is on the top center rear of the receiver. Pistol grip would make it difficult to reach because you’d have to take your hand off the grip. With the conventional grip (Shown here) , your thumb is right there at the safety without even taking your finger off the trigger.
I destroyed my back at work and found it really hard to shoot a 3 inch shell with a pump shotgun. I would end up barely being able to walk out of the duck blind at the end of the day. I picked up the Mossberg 930 hunting shotgun semi auto gas chamber and I can shoot it all day long. Excellent shotgun for me. I am in the market for a home defense shotgun and I believe the one being demonstrated here is what I’m going with. Very reliable.
Hello Greg,,,Just love my Mossberg shotguns,,,especially my 835s....My favorite shotguns are Mossberg,,,Winchester,,,and Remington...Favorite defensive shotgun is Winchester model 1200 or 1300 Defenders...So smooth to operate....Love from Ohio,,,Neil
I have a 930 security 7-shot model (7 + 1 in chamber) basically an spx without the tacticool features. A more simplified model, but the internals are the same. An absolute beast for $600 USD. No need for a fancy benelli or beretta, though I’m still crazy jealous when I see one. Its such a simple beauty, disassembly/reassembly is easier than with my maverick 88.
I tell ya what, Ive shot clays and hunted with an 1100 rem since 1984.. my go to shotgun forever.. and about 4 yrs ago a friend asked me to go goose hunting, told me I needed a "3 inch at least".. I bought the 930 for $559.. let me just say I think it is my new favorite! Runs flawlessly, any loads.. light, easy to point, sweet low recoil..
The beretta beats the Bonelli to pieces definitely the mossy too but I’d take the mossy though if I had a Bonelli I’d sell it and get a FN or a beretta 👌
@@joshuahoward7567: Beretta 1301 > Benelli M4. I've shot both. My wife already owned the Beretta before we got married, and she of course, still has it. She lets me use it a little. 😆😆🤣🤣
Bought 2 940’s….a buddy and I ordered them. One would hold 7 2 3/4” and the other, only 6. I field striped the one that held 7…..and after reassembling, it would only hold 6 ! Both have been sent back to Mossberg for examination, at their direction.
Appreciate the videos with calm presentations. Haven't shot much since VN 71. Don't own any guns but may take it up for occasional fun with kids who own guns. Like the idea of a rifle and shotgun. Shoot target and skeet maybe. Son in Virginia shoots and owns guns. Daughter in NH also. I'm in MA so not a gun friendly state but plenty hunt here. Also enjoy Kirsten Joy Wiess. Cheerful and talented young lady with a lot of tips and instruction. Thanks guys.
I just bought a 930 JM Pro and added a limbsaver. Easy on the shoulder. I did feel it a little shooting a couple of dozen Remington high velocity lugs (1800 fps), but they were way more accurate than the Federal Truball slugs.
Good point about those sites... Every time I went out into the woods with the M16, it always seemed to end up behind, me dragging it along by the sling as it snagged every brush and bush in the forest.

After that I sold all of my pump guns. This is my favorite shotgun of all. Accurate, reliable, and less recoil than a pump gun. However, it is substantially heavier.
Another shirt idea could be it could say on the front now for y’all folks in Kentucky 5+1 = 6. Or whatever numbers you want to put.
Your videos are fantastic. So approachable and informative.
Great review as normal. Recoil is why most LE agencies are going to reduced recoil loads. Follow up shots and not getting beat up is the reason.
Remember lads
haha, thats why i came here. i saw what gun he used and wanted a review i guess
😭😭
I have to say Hickok..everybody love's putting the hurt on steel target's with 12 gauge slug's , I know I do..LOVE that clang!...KEEP ON ROCKIN IT!......hickok45....................
probably shot around 250-300 shots with my new one, seems great so far never failed to cycle even the cheap walmart crap. The magazine is a bit tight at first.
Seeing Hikok45 having fun is awesome! I also listen to his review before I buy a gun.
I’ve waited a long time to see this one on Hickok’s channel. Awesome!
This man knows how to retire. Best wishes Hickok45 to many more years of recreation.
ive had my mossber 930 spx for 2 years, the only hang ups ive had were with the cheap bird shot roungs. 2 total failure to extract. but once i cleared it, I didnt have that problem. but with premium ammo, NOT ONE hang up. keep it clean, and you will be golden, I love this gun so much! if you are thinking about getting one, DO IT!
Also, shotguns just seem better with regular stocks.
Yeah I think it's how it positions the hand lower. I prefer a regular stock myself.
Agreed! I don't care for a pistol grip on a shotgun... Personal preference...
Lost a tooth to pistol grip 500 Persuader. I hate PISTOL GRIP shotguns now!!
Especially with Mossbergs thumb safety
Shotguns with pistol grips hurt my wrist and elbow so me regular stock shotguns sorry!
We had the 930 and the M4 Benneli . Both are Marine proof. I preferred the Mossberg due to the top thumb safety.
I love when the man walks around you dont hear gravel. You hear brass n shot shells😎
It's a great shotgun. Installed the or3gun spacer tube and it makes this shotgun reliable!
Always get a smile watching your vids. Thanks man.
I love my SPX, shoutout to Bud’s Guns Shop! 🇺🇸
Willie Beaman shotguns are beautiful.
Me too! Picked mine up from Bud’s too!!
Michael Tillman Great! I’ve had mine for a few years. How long have you had yours?
Wedritrem they sure are and so is the SPX 🇺🇸
Willie Beaman I’ve had mine for almost the same time. The thing is, I didn’t originally order it. I ordered a 4+1 with the breacher on it. Apparently Bud’s was out of those so they sent me the SPX! At first I was mad cause it didn’t come with the breacher. But I kept it anyways because I was using it to get my CLEET Cert. I fell in love with it on that day.
I had one of those for a while and I will buy another one someday! Really nice guns for the money. I miss it
Teenage me thought pistol grips are badass adult me thinks they look cheap.
Tactical: Must have.
They dont look cheap on the Benelli M4 **shrugs**
like em when theres no stock but theres a limit to how big of a gun you can put the on before they just look silly
The safety is on the top center rear of the receiver. Pistol grip would make it difficult to reach because you’d have to take your hand off the grip. With the conventional grip (Shown here) , your thumb is right there at the safety without even taking your finger off the trigger.
I still find them much more comfortable.
I ahve one for several years now and it is grate, no mal functions yet.Outstanding fire arm.
Anyone else love hearing the rattle of brass and shells as he walks around? I could only wish to shoot that much!
I noticed your range looks great ,the grass is greener on your side.😎😀
Really thought there was already a video on this gun up, hands down the best semi auto for the money out there
Wish mossberg made a tactical 20 gauge like the 930 spx
The SA 20 is close.
Totally agree
Just got mine and did a tabletop review video before I took it to the range...it did not disappoint. It shot extremely well.
Thanks for the advice, I know this will be my next purchase (no pistol grip!)
Hello Brother! 💥💥💥
The Kentucky jokes get me every time
I tell ya what, Ive shot clays and hunted with an 1100 rem since 1984.. my go to shotgun forever.. and about 4 yrs ago a friend asked me to go goose hunting, told me I needed a "3 inch at least".. I bought the 930 for $559.. let me just say I think it is my new favorite! Runs flawlessly, any loads.. light, easy to point, sweet low recoil..
Try the Beretta 1301 absolute fantastic reliable semi auto shotgun
stick with the mossberg, cheap and very effective.
what dies said Beretta cost v this Mossberg?
The moss is 7-8 and the beretta is 12-13 that's a big difference.
Mossberg 590A1 is where its at
BAMA FAN smoke main detected
WIKIPEDIA 870 is the way to go.
Definitely a great shotty! Love mine!
Yikes. He's a bama fan so we know he's wrong
Roll Tide
Appreciate the videos with calm presentations. Haven't shot much since VN 71. Don't own any guns but may take it up for occasional fun with kids who own guns. Like the idea of a rifle and shotgun. Shoot target and skeet maybe. Son in Virginia shoots and owns guns. Daughter in NH also. I'm in MA so not a gun friendly state but plenty hunt here. Also enjoy Kirsten Joy Wiess. Cheerful and talented young lady with a lot of tips and instruction. Thanks guys.
13:25 made me save some money, it didn’t cycle the heaviest load you can put in it and they claim it has problems with lighter loads
I just bought a 930 JM Pro and added a limbsaver. Easy on the shoulder. I did feel it a little shooting a couple of dozen Remington high velocity lugs (1800 fps), but they were way more accurate than the Federal Truball slugs.
I want one of the Steoger versions of that same gun. Love the rifle sights but I think that Steoger is much cheaper and gets you the same features.
Good point about those sites... Every time I went out into the woods with the M16, it always seemed to end up behind, me dragging it along by the sling as it snagged every brush and bush in the forest.
Always enjoy your videos !!!😎😁 Thanks for sharing!!!😀
Not a fan of huge recoil myself... Bobbles?? Nothing but honesty- much appreciated!!!
Morning everyone.. yeah hickok45 video !!
Had mine for over 3 years. It has never had any problems with any shells.
I believe you went full semiautomatic ghost gun in the intro. ;)
Love this guy I can watch his video's all day long.
