Creating pockets like north of Pok is madness and stupidity.
When the area you holding shrinks, indirect fire intensifies.
Its hard to level a whole big city but levelling a small district surely can be done.
      That operative force is dust.

"Operation Siberian Tiger". And so it was that "The Great and Mighty Master Warrior King and Resurrected Czar of Mother Russia, Vladimir Putin", did realize that "The Next Evolution of Modern Day Drone Warfare" was upon him. Thus so he knew that the next evolution of drone warfare was "The Flesh Drone City Busting Army" of 100's of 1,000's of Flesh Drones (one 250 pound man and 300 pounds of ammo per drone") ganging a city or Capitol City taking the city down in just hours or days. Thus so President Putin, The Great and Mighty King of Mother Russia did prepare an army of these 300,000 soldiers into "Flesh Drones" in Siberian to fly into Kiev in one night and in one day to decapitate Kiev and round up the 1,000 to 2,000 men in a "Special Anti-Terrorism Military Operation" and thus end the NATO/Ukraine/Russian War in a week!!! Thus so "ALL" 32 NATO Leaders will see how President Putin did decapitate Kiev's head from its Ukrainian body in less than a week and realizes President Putin can perform this "RUSSIAN DEMONSTRATION OF POWER" at will on any of them!!! Sincerely I am "The Reality Changer" (! Cor. 1:26-29) My Word Counts!!!!

When state's engage in protracted war, material realities eventually reassert themselves. Armies do not prevail through slogans or moral narratives. They win through manpower, logistics, industrial capacity, and strategic coherence.
The fall of Pokrovsk represents the most significant expression of this logic since the beginning of the SMO. It is not merely a tactical loss, nor simply another city changing hands. It is the moment where the fundamental imbalance between Russian and Ukrainian war making capacity becomes undeniable.
Wars of attrition reward states with depth economic demographic and strategic. From the outset, Ukraine faced a great power with more soldiers, more artillery, greater industrial capacity, and a higher tolerance for casualties.
The West attempted to bridge this gap with technology, financial support, and rhetoric. But wars are not won by belief alone.
Pokrovsk matters because it symbolizes the exhaustion of Ukraine’s strategic reserves. Over months, Kyiv committed elite brigades to defend terrain that held symbolic and logistical importance. Once those forces were spent, there were no equivalent replacements.
The tragedy of modern war is that once seasoned units are lost, they cannot be regenerated quickly. Time, not intention, becomes the decisive factor. In the end, Ukraine faced the harsh truth all weaker powers encounter in prolonged conflicts. It could not replace its losses at the pace required to sustain its defense. Russia, in contrast, adapted. It shifted from costly offensives to methodical grinding operations aimed at suffocating Ukraine’s capacity to maneuver it targeted energy infrastructure, ammunition stockpiles, and transport nodes. Each blow insolation seemed manageable cumulatively. They eroded the war machine. When veteran brigades are depleted, when energy grids strain when logistics falter, collapse becomes not a possibility but an inevitability.
Pokrovsk is where the accumulated weight of attrition crossed the threshold. What unfolded there also exposes the illusion underpinning western strategy. Many in Washington and Brussels assumed that through sanctions, advanced weaponry, and financial aid, Russia could be ground down.
Yet, the opposite occurred. Russia’s defense industry accelerated. Its workforce reoriented and its political system internalized a wartime posture.
Ukraine without equivalent industrial backing and dependent on external decision-making cycles entered a phase where the tempo of war no longer aligned with its means.
The war rested on a dangerous premise that political will and moral conviction could overcome structural inequality. But the battlefield is indifferent to narratives it rewards states that match ambition with capability as Ukrainian lines fractured near Pokrovsk.
Some will insist that more weapons or firmer Western resolve might have changed the outcome, perhaps temporarily, but strategy must rest on durable foundations, not aspirations.
The imbalanced in manpower, artillery, and production made a prolonged stalemate untenable for Kyiv. When the line broke at Pokrovsk, it confirmed what structural logic had long suggested victory in a war of attrition belongs to the side with deeper reserves and greater strategic patience.
The fall of Pokrovsk marks not only a battlefield defeat, but the moment when illusion yielded to reality. Wars that begin as contests of will eventually become contests of endurance.

You have spoken my mind. I always tell my friends in Ghana that Ukraine can't sustain this war because their supplies rely on external generosities. Warfare is purely a case of mathematics, who can produce more and replace more - simple!

I'm in Omaha, NE, USA, and watch the war updates daily. Weeb is the clearest and most concise, IMO, but I watch several others, DPA, Military Summary, Theti mapping... I'm retired so waste way more time on the Internet than I should. My wife is Vietnamese so we travel there to see family regularly. We were there for 2 months earlier this year. I was surprised to learn my father-in-law Pho, a veteran of the Viet Cong, also watches war updates on a daily basis, only in Vietnamese. Since I already knew what was going on, the language made little difference. We'd sit and watch together daily. Vietnamese are not drowning in propaganda as we are in the so-called "West". They all know what is going on in this war and the fact that it was 100% provoked by NATO and particularly the USA. Every VN person I talk to considers this simply another US imperial war, similar to the one we waged on VN. I agree with this.

They ran a florist shop in Saigon for the rest of the war and after...

As a career military officer, looking at Ukraine's tactical situation in Pokrovsk, holding that terrain at this point is suicide and a tragic waste of manpower. Defense can have an attritional benefit for the defender but given Russian overmatch in drones, artillery and air support this is just sacrificing troops for optics and messaging. No Soldier wants to give their life in a hopeless situation just for "optics". Withdraw, reorganize, shorten your defense lines and do everything possible to preserve combat power.

    • @Gerd-2
      @Gerd-2 13 days ago +7

      @UnoriginalOP354
Well, the West is certainly in decline compared to BRICS+, ASEAN, African Union etc.
Western domination is certainly over, the others are increasingly have the (economic, technologic etc.) and even military power to do so.
What is so fascinating (in a bad sense) is that the West currently destroys itself by basically the very same reasons the Eastern bloc failed: double moral, arrogance, ignorance towards others.
Specific Western phenomenon is the decline in education on all levels.
And no, it does not make me happy either. Ex-Communist values and Western values are actually about improving peoples lives and better society.
But the self-destruction now again in progress kind of at least partially seems to repeat itself.
In order to come back on track the West only has one chance: it must become truly peaceful and finally admits its own shortcomings - before moralizing or even attacking others. Otherwise this political system will destroy itself.
I personally seen it once, and no it is not nice... Such turbulences always shake societies to their core and you never know how it is going to end.
We do not need revolutions, we need evolutions and honesty, which is so badly missing in Western leaderships today.
      Peace! from Dresden / Germany

Media in the West urgently need to do some homework regarding origins of this civil war between Ukrainians who support the 2014 putsch (backed by the West) and the Ukrainianz opposing it (backed by RF).
I have relatives fighting on both sides.
Madness of this war is best illustrated by the fact that gen. Storozhenko (born in Ukraine) commands Russia's 6th Combined Arms Army and is currently leading assaults on Kupians'k and gen. Syrs'kij (born in the heart of Russia) is the the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
    *
Here in Odessa we are afraid of being hunted down by the Zelensky's goon squads aka press gangs, who forcibly "recruit" 25-60 year old men (possibly 60+ soon) in our streets, shopping malls, restaurants, fitness clubs public transport, roadblocks... and - recently in pubs and even during church services and funeral ceremonies.
But wait... That is not the end of this self-destructive paranoia. Since we running out of recruitment/fighting age Zelensky's regime even designed combat uniforms for... pregnant women.
The only men not press ganged into Ukrainian Army are relatives of politicians and ... grave diggers.

"You do all of the dying - we can do all of the winning"
      ***
This is all we - Ukrainians need to know about this proxy NATO vs Russia war:
Усе, що ми, українці, повинні знати про наших західних "союзників":
“Being an enemy of America is dangerous, being a friend of America is fatal.” - Henry Kissinger (?)
      ***
      >>>I guess it was the 12th or 13th time to Kiev, and I was supposed to announce that there was another billion-dollar loan guarantee. I got a commitment from Poroshenko and from Yatsenyuk that they would take action against a state prosecutor, and they didn’t.
“So as they were walking out to the press conference, I said, nah, we aren’t going to give you the billion dollars. They said you have no authority, you are not the President. I said call him. I’m telling you, you are not getting the billion dollars.
“You are not getting the billion; I am leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you are not getting the money.
“Well, son of a bitch, he got fired.>If you put aside the immense human suffering and look at Ukraine’s war through the cold lens of international power politics, a clear picture emerges: the West is having a good war against Russia.
All NATO has to do is send Kyiv munitions, equipment and money, which, as any general knows, is the c h e a p e s t way to wage war.
      (...)
The lives are being given by the Ukrainians. They’re defending their nation but also, inadvertently, helping decide the Cold War.
For 70 years, NATO deterred a Moscow attack westwards. The Russians eventually invaded, last February, what they assumed would be a conquerable target on their south-western border.
The war that NATO long prepared for is finally being fought.

The war will continue as long as the West can raise debt... Because that's how Russia is using the war: trash the western economies, dismantle NATO and the EU, Ukraine is "holding" because Russia wants it that way. Pokrovsk, Konstantinovka, Siversk and Kupyansk falling at about the same time is designed to make the West freak out and send more money in emergency, whatever the economic situation in their own borders. With EU suing Slovakia, Poland and Hungary to force them buy Ukrainian products (Ukraine is not an EU member...) and allow South-American products flood their markets (MercoSur...), it's going to be a long string of "Article 50" in EU. The Russian plan is taking shape...
...And that's why they're so "slow": bringing such economies on their knees, trashing EU's "unity" and make them commit economic seppuku takes time.
Meanwhile, China is taking care of the biggest stakeholder's finances, it's definitely going to help.

the west have control over media platforms.
Russia have not, it's not important for Russia to have either as they have said before.
It's the situation on the the battleground that counts, nothing else.

You are not wrong, butI will correct you a bit. It WILL be Russian general who will be dismissed.
But not the general of Russian army. General Sirsky is an ethnic Russian.
Maybe they gave him command because of that, so in case of failure they can just claim he was a traitor, a Russian asset, without revealing real reasons for disaster. It won't be portrayed as their weakness and incompetence, but treason, just to be able to lie about real situation to their public and sponsors.

If Ukrainians had strong reserves / forces / positions, they would try to stop Russians on the Komar front, where they lose every day 10 of km2 or more. The logical implication is that they are focused on Pokrovsk and it is the maximum they can do. Whether they can slow down or not the Russians is not so important, they don"t have reserves, and therefore, at some point, they will lose Pokrovsk.

I believe Budanov sent too many men to clear Pokrovsk. Eleven soldiers is too many in such a small operational area. They simply blocked each other's observation and fire fields, which led to the failure of the operation. These forces should have been rationally distributed and at least three of the eleven should have been sent to Crimea.

      @Nitroat-xo4tj 13 days ago +1

@Truckin25do you know how ukraine would run out of men even faster? By massive encirclements.. but that does not happen.. Look at the cost. Russia has lost 70% of all tanks, they got.. every day a thousand russian casualties.. with a horrific 1to1 ratio of wounded to dead.. Look at russias budget.. most of the oblasts have used up their whole budget for one year, in just 7 months to 8 months.. inflation.. 24%.. Putin forced banks to give credits to companies.. that is a perfect storm for a 2008 financial bubble of foul credits.. Workers dont get paid.. sometimes 4 to 6 months.. Russia will collapse, before ukraine runs out of men.. Prokrovsk.. yeah.. lost. but a big encirclememt will not happen.. its more like soledar.. a few wounded or soldiers get shot by russian troops.. typical warcrimes like we saw them..

  • @ПеђаПантовић

In 1999, NATO attacked my country like this, but they did it differently than the Russians. The Russians look after civilians, and NATO killed everyone with massive carpet bombing. They threw cluster bombs at the city of NIS, and that was when it was market day to kill as many civilians as possible. In 1993, I told the Russian officers that NATO was on their way. We Serbs stopped them for 9 years so that Russia could rise militarily and economically. From 1991 to 1999 they fought with the Americans while Russia and China were silent. The Americans had to stop in 1989.

I am still wondering about those who are trapped. It must be a mix of the following. Do we have any idea how many fall in the various categories?
~~ Hard-fighting Ukrainians who have never left the battlefront
~~ Cannon-fodder forced to the front
    ~~ Mercenaries
There must be a number of these who are wounded.
Mercenaries would be tried, right? Therefore they would have little incentive to surrender?
    Can anyone clarify this?

Yeah, I don't agree with them, but they sure are formidable soldiers. Even those guys who were snatched on the streets fight... It surprises me. I spent a lot of time in Ukraine, about 11 years ago. There was no patriotism, no loyalty or pride in the country. And everyone spoke Russian. I remember a poignant conversations about national anthems and it turned out none of my "Ukrainian" colleagues even knew the words to their own anthem. Nor were they interested in learning. They joked and said the Soviet anthem was better and they preferred that one. At the time, I was shocked, particularly that nobody spoke Ukrainian, or wanted to learn it. This was in Kiev and Kharkov.

PS another anecdote from my dealings with Ukrainians in the IT sector: Suddenly their company CHANGES everbody's names! To the Ukrainian version of the same name they had before. Some names were significantly changed. I was not in Ukraine, but chatted to them on Messenger. They did not approve of the changes, but there was nothing they could do about it. Previously Vladimir is now "Volodymyr", "Olha" or something, instead of Olga. I don't remember the variations, but it made previously pretty names, like Tatiana, sound ugly. @summerlake356That is proof.of state-ordered national identity-building. (The Nazis did the same in Germany, as it did not have a national identity before that, it was all abouz regions and ethnic groups.) Some then willingly assimilate into that new ideology, and those are the ones who fight most fanatically and suicidally, as they have no more self-identity left outside of this narrative, and prefer to die with it.

I’m about 99 percent sure the Helicopter special forces team that was dropped off and annihilated was definitely a western countries special forces unit . Guaranteed this was not Ukrainian units . They absolutely would know this would not work and probably told the Western special forces unit that it would fail. However those guys are full of themselves think they are invincible from fighting afghans and Iraqis with assaults just like that and assumed they would show Ukrainians how it’s done. Boy did they ever show them how it’s done too lmao . Clearly this is what happened special forces from the west are the only idiots full of themselves enough to think this could work because they haven’t been on the front lines of a real fight like this .

Years after the war has ended in some form, Ukraine will remain a terrorist state unless the people get rid of their warmongers. They also must get rid of NATO, EU and US influence. That will be hard in reconstruction. They had better remember the hell of war forever and its consequences. It would be wise to cultivate some peace with Russia.

It is comical and absurd to suggest that Ukrainian and Russian top generals were fighting for their jobs. The fall of the city is when, not if. Attacking fortified high rises takes time. I am surprised that Russians have not flattened the structures by aerial or artillery bombardment.

Unpopular opinion but I think Gerasimov SHOULD be replaced by Putin in favor of Andrei Mordvichev either way this battle goes, as he has proven himself as a competent commander, and deserves a promotion. Gerasimov on the other hand seems like more of a career general than an actual competent military leader. (I just looked it up and he was promoted to commander-in-chief of the ground forces, no wonder the war has been going better for Russia🙏)

There are sources claiming that a pressing motive for attempting to break the encirclement at Pokrovsk is to allow the evacuation of NATO military personnel deployed in this area. It appears that the (failed) Blackhawks operation was also aimed at rescuing these NATO officers. Certainly, if these NATO personnel are captured, the Russians might report it, if only to further debunk the Ukrainian narrative that everything in Pokrovsk is under control.

  • @YThome7

Dima, again and again I call on you don't jump the gun, cool down, maintain demeanor, don't make ungrounded predictions even if you are "telling the truth" as you understand it , and you will not have that often to change from one extreme to another, from "it is matter of hours, maybe even days" to "maybe Ukrainian counter offense was successful".
