I think one of the main reasons for adding the panning ability to the top is so that when you are on uneven ground you can use the bottom adjustments to level the camera then you can pan with the top adjustment and your pan will be level. This is especially useful when you are shooting images to stitch together into a panorama.
I’ve got an old Manfrotto 3 lever head that does most of the same things without all the silly little knobs…much too fussy a unit for me! Too many keys, and options, designers should learn “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”! Great review though😅
Hey Booray, this Freewell Tripod will be good for Wedding photographers. And being able to use it as a Monopod is a bonus. I never knew that you can get an Air Tag on a Tripod, what a great idea. Freewell certainly have some good products. Thanks Booray for presenting this Tripod, I really enjoyed it. 😊.
I don't think I have ever seen such a thorough review of a tripod from the practical usability aspect before. Very good. The fidgety/fiddly(photo jargon) mounting of the plate on the camera and then the camera on the tripod disqualifies it for me. The design just seems to bypass the convenience of the standard Arca Swiss plate and receiver system. The combination ball/pan-tilt head seems clever though.
Looks like a nice unit … as they say you get what you pay for especially with tripods. One other question related to using a tripod do you use a wireless shutter release on your x100vi? If yes what model?
@@ricknicholson5894 The stalk goes all the way to the rubber feet on the legs. There might be a little wiggle room there because of the hook, which is smaller. If you could do it, I think it's a work-around because all the material provided by Freewell shows it higher and on the outside (I believe)

That tripod will be reduced in price very shortly - I have a manforotto that does everything that one does besides weight - and it's way way cheaper. Also I like the weight on mine - it can be used as a weapon for defense in the times we are living in now. The one you are showing is also way to complicated or will be a nuisance over time due to its functionality. In a few months it will be selling for $50 due to its design flaws and maybe sell.

Oh, I won't use the plate. I keep a grip on my camera that has an arda-swiss bottom.
The top red knob is for taking panoramic pictures. Especially when the tripod is on an uneven ground.
Ahh.. because the base will be at an angle so you need a pan that is above the ball head. I learned something new! Thanks!
Without a leveling head, using pan at the top plate is not going to provide a stable horizontal surface. This tripod has way too many features.

@@hubertcole1645 I use the Fuji app on my phone and it works great. 😃
Can you not lower and turn the air tag in wards so it doesn't protrude quite so much
Good question. I just looked at it and the legs are flush against the stalk when it is closed. I'm guessing the air tag would interfere with that
@BoorayPerry that is why I suggested lowering it
