Can we trade Marner for him? Just borrow the time stone for a bit and go back to 2 and a half years ago right before his no trade kicked in and ship him off to San Jose? No? Damn, that kid is so good it was worth a shot. 😂😂😂
Even if Matthews' Teammates have a problem with him, they'll never bag on their teammate to the Media DURING THE TOURNAMENT. They're always going to back their guy to outsiders.
28:05 Sport climbing turned out to be one of my favourite things to watch at the Paris games. Way more intriguing/interesting than you'd think when it comes to spectating.
22:50 I get that it's been a couple of years, but do people not remember that the NHL WAS sending their players to Beijing in 2022? I feel like I'm the only one who remembers that all the teams who qualified for those Olympics even announced the 1st three players of their roster. Team Canada, for example, named Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, and Alex Pietrangelo to their roster. Team USA announced Auston Matthews, Patrick Kane, and Seth Jones to theirs. COVID, however, killed that from happening due to China's strict rules on quarantine + a COVID outbreak in the NHL that saw the league reschedule countless games that season. They used what was supposed to be the Olympic break as a window to play a lot of those games. As for the league not being interested in China, they did actually attempt to try and market themselves there when they had played some exhibition games there in 2017 (Kings vs Canucks) and 2018 (Boston vs Calgary). They played in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen to be exact.
The French player was banned by the France's olympic committee because they thought his antics after being rejected was not in line with the olympic spirit.
You mean the gooning for the crowd, and not the fight ? In a statement released Monday night by the FFHG, Gerbeau argued that Crinon’s actions after he was kicked out of the game, a 10-2 blowout win for Team Canada, constituted “a clear violation of the Olympic spirit and also undermines the values of our sport.” As he exited the ice, Crinon held his hands to his ears and waved his arms, riling up the crowd in the style of a wrestling villain. One fan threw a water bottle at him.
Gee why do people dislike a player who has repeatedly shown he can’t handle high pressure situations and winner take all games being captain of the US Olympic hockey team? Must be because he plays on a Canadian team surely there can be no other reason ignore the fact that Brady Tkachuck and others playing on Canadian teams aren’t getting this amount of hate
Hockey fan here that just happens to be American. Re: Matthews- Steve/Adam/Jesse, you’re right that US hockey fans don’t particularly like Matthews. But, it’s not because he plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs. A lot of US hockey fans just do not like him because they dislike how he handles himself. From the beginning of not letting his team know there was a legal issue before it broke in the news, To how he talks condescending to the press. He has an air about him that he is better than, that he doesn’t have to answer what others do willingly. He is a very talented, skilled, hockey player. But he has turned many off by his perceived attitude that is presented when he is seen being interviewed etc. Or, his earlier actions. It truly has nothing to do with the Toronto Maple Leafs team. The Canadian Olympic team has been wonderful watch for anyone who enjoys hockey. The speed at which they play the game is incredible to witness. Enjoy listening to your podcasts. Cheers
It’s a bit ironic to hear this talk about the captain when Adam is on the record saying they shouldn’t have taken the C from Tavares to give to Matthews
I got curious. Sochi Olympics were played on International size rinks, whereas Italy 2026 was played on a rink similar in size to the old Aud in Buffalo.
Thank you Adam Said a lot of what I had been thinking abd probably alot of other people. American born who's entire family is from Canada. Been a leafs fans since I was 4 and called then the make beliefs lol. Watch and live everything yall do at sdpn. Keep uo the great work
2 years ago they added the break dance as a one time thing and in 2 years they're gonna do the same for flag football... I'd love to see red bull crashed ice at least once in 4 years (or in 8 in salt lake city)
The most important thing is that hockey Canada is really needing a lot more work than it was expecting and that is the joint goal for under 18s ,Men’s and Women’s hockey teams in the country right now with a huge gap between USA development program that is not being fully developed yet in Canada as a result we’re going to need to be ready for a dip in results from tournaments before it gets solved. And the voices are going through it right now and start with some ice chips to suck on between the games…love the dedication boys
Arizona absolutely could host the Winter Olympics. Northern Arizona is mountains. They get tons of snow. They have ski resorts. I doubt they would want to make the investment, but it's possible.
Couple things about Finnish coaches. Jalonen was not fired. His contract ended and since he achieved everything possible with Finland he retired and went to Italy to basically have nice life and coach this olympic Italy team. Second funny little fact. When Finland won their first world championship 1995 they were coached by Swedish coach Curt Lindström and they won in Stockholm Sweden :D
Suzuki needs to center the 4th line on that team. That's all. you need him on the PK and as a shutdown guy, he just is not a winger. Also in Montreal: we appreciate Jesse jumping on the bandwagon, we respect Steve otherwise we wouldn't pay any attention - also we love a bit of schandenfreude from time to time, but Adam we already hate you my guy. It's mutual. The smart move for SDPN is to make Adam cover the Habs in the playoffs again, because the Leafs can't lose game 7 if they don't make the dance!
Same guys who spent a quarter of the segment talking about how you don’t know what is happening inside a locker room magically has the ability to know how all of swedens players feel about their coach.
Actually, fun fact, Matthew Tkachuk has vehemently denied being the "face" of the Florida Panthers and has stated multiple times that the role of Captain and "face" of the Florida Panthers belongs to Barkov.
Crinon was on the team specifically to punch Tom Wilson, specifically, and he cashed in on the assignment 😂 As much as it pains me to give Wilson credit, he did indeed handle that with his thinking brain.
@dopex89 yep. I was kidding, but only very slightly - it may not have *specifically* been Wilson, but his inclusion at all suggests his purpose was to live up to his rep at some point.
I gonna say. I did love when Matthews threw out the camera team in The Face off series. That somehow got me to respect him more as a leader. It was an awesome moment
Solo synchronized swimming is sync'd to music (or your iPod). Always syncing, not sinking. It's not called Floor Dancing; it's not called Ice dancing; it won't be called water dancing.
Plz put Reinhart with Hagel and Mack, it’s genuinely un fathomable as to why Suzuki is playing second line when he’d be more effective as a 4th line defensive player.
57:00. So as an American who isn’t a leafs fan I think I can answer this the best, fair or unfair Matthews in most people’s eyes has failed to show up in the playoffs. Is it all on him, no, but he’s the face of the leafs and the leafs have been known to fall at the worst times. That seems unfair but perception is reality here. Also team USA in hockey doesn’t have a great history in showing up (particularly against Canada) in big games either. Vicious combo of things plus ppl feel like one of the tkachuks should have been captain esp Matthew given his recent playoff experience and success. As a lightning fan I hate Matt tkachuk but u can’t argue the playoff success especially compared to the rest of the team. But Auston has been great this tournament, one of their best forwards and they’re gonna need him playing like this to get to the gold medal game and have a punchers chance vs Canada.
Spot on except the thing about people thinking Matthew Tkachuk should of been captain. No way he was on Bill Guerin's radar for captain. He is the most cowardly player and Guerin comes from a era where he played against/with guys like Sakic, Yzerman and Mike Modano.
For me, the fact that team sweden had a bad groupstage makes me more comfortable for the elimination games. Playing as "underdogs" suits them much better. As they pointed out, 2002, huge favorites for the gold but lost to Belarus.
Guys, Jukka Jalonen wasn't fired from Finland's head coach job, but he wanted to step down after his contract expired 2024. And he will never coach Sweden. Germany or Czechia, maybe? Sweden, never and I think also Sweden says no.
Check out Abbey Murphys hit on Emma Söderberg. Goon who has a reasonable chance of going first overall in the PWHL draft this year, her NCAA stats are wild.
Fun Facts: Canada won gold in the 1st winter Olympics in 1924 (in France). The amateur club that represented Canada was The Toronto Granites, who won all 5 of their games, and they had a goal differential of 110 to 3 overall. Harry "Moose" Watson had 37 goals and 19 assists! The Toronto St. Pat's later offered Harry $10,000 (massive bucks back in the day) to play for them, but he retired that same year to pursue business instead. He's in the H.O.F.. Crazy offense considering the rules back in the day!
The largest loss in Olympic history was in 1924. Canada beat Switzerland 33-0. They scored 85 goals in 3 games.
Thanks to the goat Harry Whipper Watson 37 goals in 5 games🐐🐐
Celebrini might be pretty good
Nah he’s washed. The kid is DONE.
/s
Can we trade Marner for him? Just borrow the time stone for a bit and go back to 2 and a half years ago right before his no trade kicked in and ship him off to San Jose? No? Damn, that kid is so good it was worth a shot. 😂😂😂
The years of pain for us Shark’s fans is paying off lol
Has a father who is director of sport medicine for a championship dynasty NBA team, yeah, he's got what it takes.
Possibly
Jalonen was not pushed aside nor fired, he retired. He picked Italys headcoach position as a passion project basically
Even if Matthews' Teammates have a problem with him, they'll never bag on their teammate to the Media DURING THE TOURNAMENT. They're always going to back their guy to outsiders.
To tha MEEEEEDDIIAA!
The reaction to the live pigeon shooting had me rolling! 🤣
The Celebrini, McDavid, Mackinnon line should be called the "Big Mack" line.
They should be sponsored by McDonald’s
@golfpro1600or Scotland
The NAHL is just the face punching league essentially, the pits of junior hockey - playing there has been nicknamed “serving in viet-nahl”
28:05 Sport climbing turned out to be one of my favourite things to watch at the Paris games. Way more intriguing/interesting than you'd think when it comes to spectating.
The head coach of Latvia is latvian Harijs Vītoliņš, so he isn't finnish. He even won bronze with Latvia in 2023
Read up on tug of war injuries and you'll see why they won't bring it back. When it goes wrong body parts get severed.
For Reference, Auston Matthews scored 24 goals in 36 games in the Swiss league during his draft year as a 17 year old against men.
fun fact auston matthews has never won anytning at any level
@ss-we7hm he won my heart
He won the greatest privilege of being the #1 draft pick and going to the greatest team. And I'm barely being sarcastic.
He also didn’t show up in their must win playoff game either. He played the gam, but didn’t show up.
He also never shows up when it matters
22:50 I get that it's been a couple of years, but do people not remember that the NHL WAS sending their players to Beijing in 2022? How about that Suzuki pick now Adam?
Actually synchronized swimming is now called artistic swimming so the solo event should come back!
The French player was banned by the France's olympic committee because they thought his antics after being rejected was not in line with the olympic spirit.

Yeah that actually makes me believe his hit on MacKinnon wasn't accidental
celibrini stock just went up 100 fold
Steve's impression of the "Lativia" meme was pretty spot on.
In 1908 olympics in pistol dueling they did shoot at each other using wax bullets and protective gear.
Hey boys....Finland has less than 6 million people
Gotta know does Steve play Winspan?
Were really on these guys today in the cimments lol.
1:02:35 the sarcasm oozing here over the next minute or so is legendary 😂
Gee why do people dislike a player who has repeatedly shown he can’t handle high pressure situations and winner take all games being captain of the US Olympic hockey team? Must be because he plays on a Canadian team surely there can be no other reason ignore the fact that Brady Tkachuck and others playing on Canadian teams aren’t getting this amount of hate
5:55 at Lativia.
Love when Adam “dovetails” into things
Poor adam sounds like his voice is ready to check out
I just want to say that Steve's "Upsets Citys" joke was very clever and deserved far more recognition than it got.
I wanna be an Olympian in motorboating!!! LMAOOO
28:37 “the winner dies” 😂
That's cool, my uncle was actually the GM of Corpus Christie Icerays for a while back around that time.
Hockey fan here that just happens to be American. Re: Matthews- Steve/Adam/Jesse, you’re right that US hockey fans don’t particularly like Matthews. Matthews only shows up for the paycheck.
See, to me, that all sounds very american of him so I guess he actually is perfect for the part.
Dylan Larkin probably should have been the captain for Team USA at Four Nations and for the Olympics. He has more experience leading a team.
I do not like him because of that pornstache.
@acanadianineurope814 EXACTLY! I'm a Leafs fan, and I call him "Captain Underpants." The guy looks like a Mexican porn star
It’s a bit ironic to hear this talk about the captain when Adam is on the record saying they shouldn’t have taken the C from Tavares to give to Matthews
That's just true though, Tavares is a much better captain.
I got curious. Sochi Olympics were played on International size rinks, whereas Italy 2026 was played on a rink similar in size to the old Aud in Buffalo.
The lacha zacha 😂
Dark horse for the bronze: Switzerland
31:48 How was speed skiing not mentioned???
Love how mad the Habs make Adam, stay jelly my man
1:35:34 the 88’s doing well 😂
Snowball fights should be an Olympic sport, teams of 10, similar rules as dodgeball, would be so fun
Thank you Adam
Said a lot of what I had been thinking abd probably alot of other people. American born who's entire family is from Canada. Been a leafs fans since I was 4 and called then the make beliefs lol. Watch and live everything yall do at sdpn. Keep uo the great work
Celebrini's dad kind of looks like Terry Ryan.
36:28 woah black betty 😂
2 years ago they added the break dance as a one time thing and in 2 years they're gonna do the same for flag football... I'd love to see red bull crashed ice at least once in 4 years (or in 8 in salt lake city)
You have the Tkatchuk brothers flipped. Matthew is the assistant captain.
Wicked wicked 🎉
That bit at the end with the flashback to SJ was a really tough listen and watch. So much overlapping noise.
I’ve never been this early to anything 👀
Vancouver Canucks fan here. 54:27 yes, Jesse... me too lol
Guys, check who is Latvian coach... twice you said a guy from finland... nope.
I mean one of the assistants is finnihs tbf

They could play the hockey games at Mullett!
I will never not read it as "fable tics"

Second funny little fact. When Finland won their first world championship 1995 they were coached by Swedish coach Curt Lindström and they won in Stockholm Sweden :D
The crazy quarterfinal was 2010. Canada vs Russia!!
Isn’t “Lativia” a type of yogurt?
"Who ordered the pizza?"
"Probably one of the guys in there"
"Alright, I'm going in!"
Can we get a Nova Scotia line?!
Suzuki needs to center the 4th line on that team. That's all. you need him on the PK and as a shutdown guy, he just is not a winger. 1:06:49 once, actually. He was a rookie in 2016-2017. Didn’t play for the 2016 Cup.
Gary Bettman might be the first person ever to come out on the winning side of IOC negotiations.
obviously the only logical choice for captain of team usa is jt miller.
Hell yeah tug of war!
Celebrini going right to centre ice and ready to take the penalty shot is way better than a player not sure. It's got to be automatic. No hesitation.
Same guys who spent a quarter of the segment talking about how you don’t know what is happening inside a locker room magically has the ability to know how all of swedens players feel about their coach.
Actually, fun fact, Matthew Tkachuk has vehemently denied being the "face" of the Florida Panthers and has stated multiple times that the role of Captain and "face" of the Florida Panthers belongs to Barkov.
its quite obvious that it is Barkovs job..
going back to watching the Leafs after this, is going to be disappointing
28:00 I’m embarrassed at how hard I laughed at “Yeah I do a show with a couple of ‘em.”
SEO be dammed, the episode title should have been "We Have A Rope, And We Are Men of Strength; Let's Pull."
I’ve always championed Darts to be included as an Olympic sport considering body popping has been given a platform for a Gold!
The lack-a of Zacha
Crinon was on the team specifically to punch Tom Wilson, specifically, and he cashed in on the assignment 😂
As much as it pains me to give Wilson credit, he did indeed handle that with his thinking brain.
I've seen comments from french people saying the public wasn't happy with Crinon on the team
@dopex89 yep. I was kidding, but only very slightly - it may not have *specifically* been Wilson, but his inclusion at all suggests his purpose was to live up to his rep at some point.
@Disaster_Daughter yeah I guess there must have been a reason to add him even with all the backlash... Wilson or the Tkatchuks, take your pick
I gonna say. I did love when Matthews threw out the camera team in The Face off series. That somehow got me to respect him more as a leader. It was an awesome moment
Does that mean if Canada wins the quarters they'll likely play Finland in the semis?
Bo Horvat haș been one of their best forwards, don't know why he isn't a lock to be on a line getting significant ice time.
Steve's pro bird but eats as many chicken fingers he can get his hands on
Solo synchronized swimming is sync'd to music (or your iPod). Always syncing, not sinking.

Nobody beats the Wizz!!! 🕺🥇
Harold Ballard would have made the players fly home for practice and then return to Italy to continue
Tug of war! Yes. Dueling by the leaders of countries! Yes.
No Slovakia segment?😢 Even Lativia got more time Adam…😂
Never heard so much montreal hate on here in one episode, I have loved watching Marner play.
1:05:00 nice movement of the goalposts. Pretty sure Eichel has won a SC and is considered more of a winner than Matthews.
57:00. So as an American who isn’t a leafs fan I think I can answer this the best, fair or unfair Matthews in most people’s eyes has failed to show up in the playoffs. Let’s goooo
For me, the fact that team sweden had a bad groupstage makes me more comfortable for the elimination games. Playing as "underdogs" suits them much better. As they pointed out, 2002, huge favorites for the gold but lost to Belarus.
if a guy not allowed to simply not think Matthews is Captain material? the guy is a goal scorer sure, but i just dont see him as a leader
I’ll give you Jack Hughes you give me Auston Matthews
Jack Hughes been controlling the play like a monster, Matthews been standing around letting the bounce off him for goals lol
Deal
Legendary refresh pull
Adam pronounce Werenski’s name properly one time challenge: impossible.
“Rawenski”
Guys, Jukka Jalonen wasn't fired from Finland's head coach job, but he wanted to step down after his contract expired 2024. And he will never coach Sweden. Germany or Czechia, maybe? Sweden, never and I think also Sweden says no.

"Crybaby Crosby" was old by 2007.
That people still hang on to it is really unflattering to those people.
Lativia.
Dylan Larkin should have been captain
2 line: Marchand-MacKinnon-Reinhardt
4 line: Hagel-Horvat-Bennet

why would the finns lay off on the goals when goal differential actually matters?
Even if Barkov is injured and not playing, Team Finland is extremely dangerous 🇫🇮❤️
