"Sometimes I forget I've always been sick and I don't have the will to keep fighting.
Hammer down, heaven bound."
RIP Jason.
I can’t begin to tell you what his songs meant to me. I stumbled across “farewell transmission” on a compilation of new singer songwriters many years ago. I sat in my truck and immediately thanked the Lord for sending this beautiful voice to me. I learned more about songwriting in the first 5 minutes I heard his songs, than I have for the entire life I have lived trying to learn. Thank you
Tears the heart out of my chest every single time. Never known a voice like it.
The stars are just neon lights shinning through the dance floor.....Of Heaven RIP Jason
Much more than beautiful. Impossible to forget your music Jason
Rest in peace Jason. Thank you for all you gave the world.
What a voice. Rest in peace Jason.
we're so lucky that this was recorded and is available to watch whenever we want to
His story and his music make me think of Phil Oches. Such a sad story. RIP.
Yeah I get that now that you've mentioned it. Both such pure talents, such a shame.
Such a sad loss for me.
"Hammer Down" was Jason's "Fruit Tree" by Nick Drake
Both fitting epitaths
RIP Jason and Nick
Cheers Ade
I just got into Nick drake yesterday and this was definitely one the first allegory artists I thought of....both are amazing guitar players who masterfully used layering and slowbuilding sonic landscapes where less was more....though Nick was truly mentally ill.... I think nowadays Nick would have been discovered to have been autistic and maybe schizophrenic because schizo patients always isolate and wither away when they abuse psychedelic drugs like Nick did....i mean i dont think marijuana is physically addictive but itz easy to become a bad habit for young people who dont take care of themselves like Nick....we forget cuz he wrote and sounded so mature and intelligent in his music Nick was just a mixed up kid he wasnt even done growing when he made his critically acclaimed first album....and when life didn't immediately respond to his strange nature ...as many people with nicks issues do....he retreated into a world of his own creation.....great for making art but horrible for a life....look at syd barred......now molina.....from what ive read of his behavior.....jason was most likely major depressive and exascerbated it with alcohol.....all I can know is what I read but I'm.in long term recovery myself from opiate addiction and I talk to an addiction therapist weekly so I'm somewhat educated in my guessing. But what more compared the two in my mind other than their personal issues..... was the manner of vocal delivery.....low register.....quiet and breath heavy sung directly into the mic....And where as Nick masked his pain with escapism poetry and flowery metaphors and concept comparative imagery.....molina was a fully formed man who understood his damaged pathos and hammered at it head on and with literal language.....thankfully and unlike drake.... molina left behind a huge body of work in his 15 year run of recordings. Im sure his profile and acclaim will continue to grow as generations keep discovering his brutal honesty aand raw magnetism ....
Hammer down....heaven bound...I saw the light....
heaven bound...rip jason
So real.
RIP
sweet lord in heaven
I saw the light.
I am killing myself with alcohol the same way 😂
