When Vessel says "I Am" it reminds me of when Moses was talking to the burning bush and God says "I Am that I Am" so he Is saying I am holy I am worthy. How can you not see me. Can't wait for you guys to get into the older discography and make some connections with that.
This song for me means being in a relationship that’s one sided. She takes what she wants from him but doesn’t give anything back emotionally. He desperately wants to be seen by this person but she does nothing but take him for granted. ‘I am’ is his desperate plea to this person that he is more than she thinks he is in this one sided relationship.

My take on the whole "half-blind" lyric calls back to that old saying "love is blind" - he's saying he can see this other person get half-way there but he's already blind, he's full on in love and in for the long haul, which is why he puts up with so much. But this person is still at best half in it that's why he's getting treated poorly.
This is the first channel I've seen where the "But I am" is discussed, I've been carrying this doubt for more than one year now hahahah both of your impression and your son make sense, but I usually take yours, like a re-affirmation that indeed he was much more than a character in the other one's life.
I took it from both their perspectives. We all heard it from the father’s perspective cause we growing and have a grown mind but the younger mind is the one that is living in the moment and see through what we all already know. Was a good perspective to know that maybe he was also self reflecting while talking about the others persons actions and how he himself was feeding into it as well as emulating it for the sake of the relationship to keep goign. As he says keep your eyes on the road and we will both be here for ever. Until they turn and look at each other nothing will get fixed and nothing will heal, all that will be left if the second hand smoke and glass on the street after they crash.
Sulfur on the beeath is alcohol related after drinking for long time . Granite is a heavy feeling such as a weight of a situation being to much or nerves or Anxiety .
I always thought of it "sulfur on your breath" as her words are toxic, and "granite in my chest" as having a hardened heart... Maybe from her words or just the relationship in general. I could also see how the sulfur is alcohol related bc of the passenger seat. Keep your eyes on the road. So maybe she was drunk driving???
“Between the secondhand smoke and the glass on the street” always made me think “anything I received from you was secondhand, and even then it was never good for me. Your love was never new, always handed down to me, and it was harmful to me.” The glass on the street makes me think of broken bottles, shattered windows, etc. Broken glass is sharp, like the edges of this person he’s talking about, and we can assume he’s often cut on them. Cut to the line about “you only drink the water” and pulling in context from other songs (“Be the first to the feast” in Ascensionism), you can assume this person is not in this relationship to the extent that he wants or is/was. This song feels like the turning point for Vessel, like he’s had time to reflect upon the relationship and he’s addressing the hurt, the anger, and moving on. The beauty of this band is that everyone interprets the lyrics differently- “I see you go half blind when you’re looking at me” followed by “You say you want me, but you know I’m not what you need” and his response being “I am” makes me feel like there might’ve been something on his partner’s end that was misplaced attachment issues. I think we’ve all known somebody or known *of* somebody that felt they weren’t good enough for someone else and instead of admitting that to themselves, they sabotage their relationship and find fault in it where there really might not be, just so that when it crashes and burns they feel reassured that it wasn’t for them lacking. This person is going half blind looking at him, like staring into the sun, and he eventually realizes that he was never wholly or entirely the issue. But that’s just me :)

This is my favorite to listen to with my middle child- my son is 10 and he yells “let’s go Two!!” And pretends to go crazy on the drums. All three of my kiddos have their favorites- my teen likes to talk about meanings and the insane transitions. Sleep token is a band that the entire family can get into
This is one of my favorite Sleep Token songs! I think you hit the nail on the head, dissecting the lyrics, especially with the first I am part, I didn’t even think about it being him, saying he was blind to the whole thing that makes a lot of sense! Also, the song I believe is about a car crash but I’m not sure if it’s metaphorical, literal, or both? Right before the break down, you have to listen very carefully, you can hear some muffled arguing and then you hear the screeching sound that’s like a car brakes and then the start of the break down is like the crash! Ironically, if this is about a car crash, it’s my favorite song to listen to while I drive, lol!

If you translate the lyrics literally, it sounds to me like a car drive that ends in a crash. "Between the secondhand smoke..." The person is smoking in the car, irritating him. "...and the glass on the street..." winding up in a crash, scattering glass everywhere. "...you gave me nothing whatsoever but a reason to leave." Later in the song he says, "...so keep your eyes on the road or we will both be here forever." Watch the road or you'll get us both killed.

He knows she’s bad for him but he does it anyway, that’s why he’s blind. Blind to her horrible characteristics as a person.

But i think it may have a double meaning because the reference to Holy Water, and another name for God is "I Am". And you know Sleep Token has a lot of mythical lore about gods. 🤷♂️
