- A trip of firsts. First trip of the year. First time with the Tepui roof top tent, or a roof top tent in general. And the first time my wife had ever been camping! It was a great trip with a lakeside campsite that we found, a nice fire and chili dogs!

For me this is what overland truck camping means, enjoy the trip in the truck and the adventure of nature, not focus only on how and who has the best truck, nice 👏
I stopped, made a fire and had lunch on that exact camp spot on June 24, 2020.
It’s a great spot!
Where is this in Washington?
@@SKEEZOTHEREALSKEEZO It's up behind Cle Elum, on the Cle Elum Valley rd.
Finally, RUclipss algorithm showed me something good.
Thanks so much! I appreciate that
@@OFFTHEGRIND Yea! What are you filming on?
@@OFFTHEGRIND JK, I see it.
@@simpleinstinct I’m using a canon t7i with the kit lens
I just bought a 99 Dodge Ram V-10 Quad Cab Short Bed . I know it will get horrible fuel economy. But be the beginning of some great adventures. building a Rig similar to yours. Would get us going. It's not a travel trailer they can be pretty pricey this would allow us to get out there on an awesome adventure.
Like you guys.
You guys seem like such cool and funny people, Great positive vibes dude. just subbed.
Nice rig and gear! Glad to see you getting out there. Free tip of the day: start the hatchet blade in the wood, then drop blade and wood together with your hand clear the whole time. I seen a guy slice his hand wide open and it wasn’t pretty! Take care!
Yell I saw it too
Oh god! Yeah not something I would do but thanks for the heads up haha
@@OFFTHEGRIND me neither but my feet needed a breather after the hike up to half dome.
My suggestion to avoid injury when making kindling: use a piece of a branch to hold the wood upright. That way you don’t have to quickly move your hand away.
Great idea, thanks
The Taco got my attention. The outdoor exploring, camping with food prep/cooking made me hit play. Enjoyed the video... sub'd.
Thanks so much! Welcome!
Good Video. I appreciate the fact that you picked up after yourself along with stressing the importance of everyone doing the same. 👍🏼
Unreal footage man! Great video, enjoyed watching.
Thanks so much!
Hi, Your videos are informative and great content. Thank you. Just wondering if you are able to use the tension rods for the tent window nearest cab.
Thanks, I’m glad you find them useful! You can use the one on the passenger side, or whatever side it opens to, but the other side you can’t
LMAO!!!! The codes for the jeeps! your hella funny dude
My wife and I started camping overland a few years ago. We both love it! Great video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the feedback! Can’t believe it took me this long to take her camping but she loves it!
Getting a Lexus GX460 soon! Can’t wait to use your advice for camping! Thank you!
No onion or mustard on chili dawgs is automatic failure :-)
Shopping for a new tent so looking forward to a review on that!
Mustard for sure would’ve been a good addition! Good call haha
I don’t have one planned yet cause that was my first time using it but probably in a month I’ll review it for you 😉
Nice job. I like to watch local (Washington) adventures. We are in Lake Steven's. I just found this and knew it was older. We went out for the day yesterday around Darrington and it is very dry out there. The driest I have seen in many years. I'm 67 so that covers some time.
Safe travels.
Darrington is another area I’d like to explore. Hopefully we get some rain soon. This is the driest summer I can remember
Desde México df, excelente camioneta con su camper, , más que nada el pasaje tan hermoso saludos...
Hi great video my truck is a 2021 Tacoma trd off road and I luv your tent
Would you share the site or company you bought it from?
Thanks so much! This is tepui and I believe they’re owned by Thule now. But you should check out my more recent videos. I have an ikamper now and I absolutely love it! I also have a discount code if you want to go that route.
Regardless of the tent you get though, I would highly encourage you to get a hard shell tent. They are SO much easier to deal with and hold up better in more conditions
Yo awesome looking camping setup and ya'll eating GOOD!!! Haha! I just picked up my 2020 Tacoma too, just started filming some video's too on my channel that I think you might enjoy! Anyways, looking forward to seeing more and chatting dude!
Thanks man! Congrats on getting the new truck! I subbed over on your channel so I’m looking forward to seeing the adventures!
Nice bro! I got the same suspension set up because of your other video. How was it getting to your camp site? I haven’t had time to take it off the grid yet...
It did great man. They were pretty much all just service roads so it was easy. Definitely air down though cause the ride is really harsh at standard PSI
Me alegra mucho amigo que tengas una de estas, Dios mío por favor permíteme en mi futuro tener una de estas amén.
I grew up in North Western Washington, as soon as I saw the plate I subscribed.
Thanks! Hope I don’t disappoint haha
Awesome spot 👌
Nice work on the video and setup. Loved the spot and having s’mores for Breakfast is truly awesome. We look forward to do some more backwoods exploring this next year and glad to see there are other content creators in the area !
It’s such an awesome spot! Good luck with the exploring this year and also with RUclips!
I've been on and off debating about getting either a tacoma or a 4runner. I dont have any kids. And i like both vehicles! Only thing thats catching my eye more on the 4runner is the legendary 4.0, i keep hearing the Tacomas v6 or transmission just ain't that good. But i keep coming back to the tacoma platform because i just like trucks and actually use them lol i have a ram 1500 now but would like something smaller to have for trails and somewhat better mpg.
I like the 3.5l in the Tacoma, but the transmission really isn’t the best. I’ve never really had issues with it personally but a lot of ripple complain about it. I e heard that it’s perfect with a regear but that’s quite expensive
@@OFFTHEGRIND i appreciate the comment man. I've heard alot about the trans. Overall i heard it hunts for gears from time to time. Especially if you're running bigger tires. But i plan to just get a taco for now and see how i like it. I wanna do the same set up you have with the same wheels and tires and lift. I know your tire is like a 265/70/17 for that you didn't need to have your truck regeared is that right since its only like a inch bigger than stock?! And has it effected your mpg? ?
Yeah you’re right. And not it really hasn’t affected my MPG. The lift did though for sure
@@OFFTHEGRIND Was it because it added weight to the truck or because of the drag from the air of it being 2" higher? Then again the mpg really ain't the whole point i'll be getting one. Mainly would like one for longevity use and to go on road trips and off road camping.
@@miguelgalvez6447 yeah I think it has to do with the aero. Haha yeah you definitely don’t get a Tacoma for the MPG. But where it’ll take you is amazing!
I see the tents on the trucks. I look up these tents on the truck. I see the price of the tents on the truck. $1200 average. Fuuuuuuck. I'll stick to my 43 dollar Academy tent.
I love your videos. I want the same Tacoma model and set up too. Can't wait til I get to do this stuff!
Thanks! It’s so freeing man
I liked very much your videos, the resolution and editing are superb. I liked the editing and of course the subjects. Thank you (like and follow)
Thanks so much!
Where is this camp site? Been looking for easy trail for my truck. Just to try our off raoding a bit
This is in cle elum. But you can find any national forest road and it’s be safe for you to try it out. Pretty well maintained roads
I know this video is old, but I loved it. Just got my 21 Tacoma off road, and want to build it as a weekend over lander. Watching all your videos. Great job.
Thanks man! Congrats on the new truck! So much good stuff on the market. Reach out to me on Instagram if you need help
You guys remind me a lot of my wife and I! I have a Taco as well and stumbled on yours vids. Reminds us a lot of our trips and excites us for our future trips
I’m excited for more trips with the family! As the weather changes though, it’s probably going to be a while til my wife goes out with me again
This is awesome, I wan to do the same with my girl.
It was a great time man! Highly recommend
Been wanting to go to Gallagher lake this year with my 4runner, hopefully I get some free time to go there before the snow begins!
Now would actually be a great time to get up there! As soon as the smoke clears at least
Thank you for your response and recommendation much appreciated
I have the same exact truck I’m sitting on 265/75R16 TRD pro wheels and toyo AT2’s , the front I have a 1.5 inch lift with fox coil overs and rear 1 inch lift with fox reservoirs , just wondering what do you have for your suspension lift ? Thanks
Just a bilstein 5100 kit with OME springs and an add a leaf
Dude you almost chopped your fingers off, there are other ways to cut wood
Funny thing i realized with a lot of overlanding videos i watch, either someone is left behind to film leaving and arrival shots or a camera is left behind or set up ahead. So much work to put together a 20min vid. Lol. Good stuff though, like your content
Hahaha yeah it is a lot of work especially on solo trips. Lots of running around. Thank you though!
Great vid! I am curious about your lift / tire size ? Thnx!
At this point I had 2” front and rear and was running 265/70 17
Honestly, just subscribed to your channel because you made an old fashioned while camping.
#goat
Haha that’s amazing! Well this was an old video so there’s plenty more where that came from
Is that " Nalley's " Chili? I haven't had that since I moved from Washington state is 2005
Sooo good man! Haha for a canned chili

Which rack are you using for the roof top tent? And which tent is that? Would you recommend it?
It’s the CBI overland bars with a tepui tent. They don’t make the tepuis anymore but it was a good tent. And the overland bars were fantastic!
Where was this located? Beautiful
You guys are couple Goals!.
Like, comment, and subscribe!
So true.. Pick up after yourself !!
Great Vid!! You guys seem super cool/chill!! Make more!!
😎 thanks! I’ll keep pumping them out. Gotta convince the bro to do it again
What kind of bed rack system do you have?
It’s a CBI overland bar setup
Cool video...great spot. New subscriber here 🤙
Thanks! Glad to have you here
Great video and really nice truck! Love this type of content.
Thank you!
Your channel popped up automatically as a recommendation. I liked this video and will check out your other ones.
Great Video! Whereabouts were you guys camping? I'd like to go check that spot out sometime! Thanks!
Thanks man! It’s up in cle elum! I won’t give the exact location, but if you head up you’re bound to find something. There’s amazing spots everywhere!!
Dude i went to high school with Melanie! Tell her i said whats up! Haha
I'm new to the idea of overlanding, my pup likes when you take your dogs we watch a lot of the adventures youtubers put out. in all honesty, I'm looking for my own niche trying t0 copy others too much. with that great video. have a great day..
What niche are you trying to get in to?
Nice video. I always pick up trash after I go camping. It’s good to make it a game and see who can pick up the most trash before we leave. That way it’s not a chore. Great if you have kids.
Yeah that’s a good call. As soon as my kid is old enough I’ll definitely do that
Great video dude 👍 regarding trying to make things easier camping/overlanding etc, I can definitely give you some tips. Have evolved my Tacoma about 4 different times haha. I'm nearing completion (hopefully) I followed you on IG 🤙
Haha I don’t think they’re ever complete man! Would definitely love some of your wisdom though
Does he share the location?
I from Cambodia🇰🇭❤️ I love your videos vlog I love Adventure too you
Thanks so much!! I bet there’s incredible spots to explore in Cambodia and neighboring countries
Be safe brother😋
Where in Washington is this? It's beautiful!
This is in snoqulamie pass in cle elum. One of my absolute favorite places to camp
What tent and rack is that?
By any chance do you have the gps locations to these spots? my wife and I are heading to Washington next month ( Feb ) in our lifted outback onyx xt and would love to try and find some awesome spots.
This one is in cle elum. I’d just spend some time in google maps or Gaia but there’s a ton of camp sites around the lake and up that river
@@OFFTHEGRIND Thanks man. I really do appreciate it!
A great video. Greetings from Canada... how do you like that rooftop tent? cheers, Justin from Canada
Thanks so much! I really like the RTT! Kinda sucks at times cause there are great camp spots that I can’t get my truck to, but all in all it’s great!
What size tires do you have? And do they rub?
265/70 17 in this video with no rubbing. I went up to 275/70 17 and those rub but solved with some trimming
What bed rack mount for the RTT is that?
CBI overland bars
Which tepui is this
Kukenam ruggadized. I think. I don’t remember I got ride of it a while ago
What bedracks are you using?
CBI overland bars
Washington looks so much like Alberta!!
You earned a subscriber! Greetings from Canada 🍁
Thanks so much! I really want to get up to Canada and explore!
Where is this bro?
I'm really enjoying watching this video
Great job bro. Great work!
Thanks!
Subbed. Glad you all were able to get out. Good lookin' Taco. We're in the market to buy one here very soon.
Thank you! I love my taco and am sure you’ll love it as well when you make your purchase! Congrats
Dude i went to high school with Melanie! Tell her i said whats up! Haha
Haha I’ll let her know!
Top a pick-up.. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👍🏾
How do you have the shovel mounted on your rack? Ive got the same rack and mounting options seem limited!
Also that left to right pan while you were starting the fire was nice
Thank you! Really trying to up the cinematography game!
As for the shovel, I did a video titled “bed rack update” that shows how that’s all mounted. I had to get a little creative but it’s been working perfectly since I did it
DavidJenk253 awesome! I’ll go check it out. Thanks 👍
Real camping-offroad for real people.
+1 for your choice of whiskey.
One of my favorites
How did the CBI overland bars do with the tent and you guys in it?
They did great! No flex or weird noises or anything. Love them!
I see you got the 1st SFG Bourbon, how you like it, still haven’t opened mine yet.
It’s really good. Definitely my favorite release from heritage.
Nice camping tent, I love your video, inspired me to go to camping
Dude get out and do it! It’s such a great experience! Especially with the right company
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing!
Nice spot ⛺️🔥🌲
One of my favs!
There's no better way to break in a new tent than to load up the fart cannon with some chili cheese dogs haha. Great video man!! Cool to see everything set up!
Haha good point!
Looked like you had a good time! Thanks for sharing. I know your running the 5100’s, didn’t you do the aal in the rear?
Yeah it was great! Yes I did. From deaver and it added about 1.5 after settling.
I rarely watch a whole video but this was so peaceful and had me smiling and dreaming.
Wow thank you so much! What a compliment!
@@OFFTHEGRIND I'm purchasing a TRD Off Road in a month or so and your video gave me a lot of inspiration for how I want to set mine up.
Awesome man I’m glad! I’ve changed mine a lot since this video but this was a great setup all the same
@@OFFTHEGRIND yeah I saw the iKamper and then the Mammoth later on.
Is there an app or something where to find a place like that? I would love to take my son there
I use Gaia. It didn’t take us to this spot in particular though. All trails is good and so is the dyrt
Beautiful place
One of my favorites
What type of tent was that
It’s a Tepui kukenam 3 ruggadized
Would like to watch the whole video but you have too many adds man!
Haha sorry. I didn’t place the ads that’s on RUclips
Yeah absolutely. I’m just saying I don’t have much control over the frequency of them
Bro is that a manual transmission? Very nice!
No it’s not haha! I’m to lazy for that
It’s not what I wanted, but what I needed. Good content man!
Haha thanks!
Who makes the tent
Tepui
What lake is this so i can find it on Gaia
It’s north of cle elum lake called tucquala lake
What’s the name of this area / lake?
This is north of cle elum lake on the same road. Tons of spots
OCD @16:25 😜
???
Top top!
Nice video!
Where in Washington is this spot?
This is in cle elum
