Go to a registered dietitian who was able to create an exercise regime and meal plan based on my specific needs since I have metabolic syndrome which makes it more difficult for me to lose weight.
I’m a Simpleton who LOVED the full 2 hours. Wanted to listen to the free episode to be sure the key takeaways were included before I shared with friends. ❤ No processed foods ❤ sprinting tutorial ❤ fermented foods ❤microbes controlling your mind Thanks for this brilliant episode!
It was a really really great episode. I started sprinting 2 weeks ago only bc of this episode. Many many thanks to your guest and you minimalists. You are my heros.
Sprinting definitely does make one's face look different almost immediately. I sent a pic of myself to my friend after sprinting and they said "you look younger" Sept 4 I made a radical change in my diet. Cut out seed oils, wheat, processed food, most sugar, and most cheeses (except cottage cheese). Started walking an hour a day and after a month I worked up to sprinting. I started sprinting up hills in our neighborhood, which stopped me from going too fast at first. I feel that helped me avoid injury. I have lost 18 lbs in less than 2 months. Thats two clothing sizes. And I'm 53 years old! Just added weight training recently to help get the next 20 lbs off. Going to ask my trainer to try the maximally intense method.
Wow TK gave a phenomenal summary on the concept!!! and Josh guided the sprint discussion beautifully. Dr Sean is such a great individual helping people w his knowledge ❤❤❤my favorite people on the internet🙏
You're right Dr Sean O'Mara!! This is your BEST broadcast!! 67yo. Carnivorous, Sprinter for 30+ days. I've been sprinting barefoot. Feeling like a Savage!! (in a good way)!
This was an absolute brilliant podcast. I’ve been healthy for a long time and you guys perk my ears up today and I’m super excited to apply some more things to my life! This makes so much sense! I will say that I am a big believer in strength training. It has served me well as I age I would love to hear your thoughts on strength training?
I hope you have, or will, do a short of the last discussion on how our microbes control our cravings and behaviors. I started to listen to this months ago, but never finished. Just now getting back to it. I wonder how many others didn't hear the whole podcast interview, and valuable ending gems!? I share often, but shorts tend to actually be opened and tolerated by my "only slightly interested" friends and family.
I LOVE this episode. Thanks for sharing. I am about to start the Blue Zones show and love Dan Buettner. He would be a great addition to this type of conversation.
I'm interested in how you would address ab separation in women postpartum. I'm 4 years postpartum, have lost 40+ pounds to get down to healthy weight, workout 4-5x a week doing weight training and I STILL have the mommy pooch and had a Physical Therapist tell me it was most likely due to my deep ab separation.
What a fascinating episode, will definitely have to watch the full two hours! One question though: being in recovery from a Achilles tendon tear, could I replace the sprinting with a static bike sprint? Thanks for your advice 👍
Ow my gosh. I have been wondering why I am muscular at my age but my belly and love handles go away and my 27 year old son has a little belly and hard to build muscle. I didn't understand why he can't build muscle better. I think this maybe the answer. I sent two of your videos i came across today and now following you on twitter(X). I will let you know in the future of the results especially for him. He can reverse and truely be healthy would be worth sharing. Thank you so much!!
Weightlifting. Free weights. Barbells. Dumbells. light weights, not necessarily heavy. Several reps. One session a day or mini-sessions throughout the day. Work out what works for you. Like they say -- don't OVER exercise. Switch up your routine -- not the same thing every day. Enjoy what you do!
It must be nice to have access to a "free" MRI but the majority of us can't get an MRI unless we have a serious medical condition that our insurance plans will cover the cost of once they decide if it's medically necessary.
If you listen to his other interviews he discusses strategies to access an MRI for reduced cost. Not free, but something one could reasonably save for, like $300-500. He says try calling around to all the MRI places in your area, speaking to the office manager, say you'll pay cash and go to whoever offers the lowest price (even better if you say you'll be back to repeat every 6-12 months). Forget about insurance. Also he hopes eventually more MRI places will offer a "single slice" in a standardized part of the abdomen which would bring it down to maybe $100-150. You might still have to get a Drs order for it but if they don't have to justify it to insurance there's no reason to say no.
Don't allow not having an MRI to be an excuse not to start. No you won't have scans to compare, but in reality if you stick with it, you will inevitably see & feel the physical changes!
Waist to height measurement is a cheap way to measure your level of insulin resistance. Get your IR down and visceral fat shrinks. Just buy a tape measure.
Good information but some advice is impractical like telling people to go get an MRI. Does the Doc realize MRIs are over $5k, even if aporoved we are paying close to $1K out of pocket..
36:45 ... "I only consume FRUIT that have been fermented." 39:20... Goes on the list only a few fermented vegetables... Kim Chee, Kvass, Sauerkraut... I would add Natto, Poi, real Pickles, Kombucha, and Kiefer. What are the fermented FRUITS???

Oh this is gonna be good. I've seen Dr. Sean a lot recently, including an interview with Dr. Ken Berry and at the virtual carnivore summit. Can't wait!
good question. While listening I was wondering if I could just go all out on an elliptical. But I can see how actual sprinting might be beneficial. Maybe I'll start on an elliptical then try to graduate to actual sprinting.
Yes, in other interviews he mentions that especially if you’re just starting out or if you’re very heavy, you can sprint on a bike or rower, etc. He also mentions to possibly start on an uphill when you are ready to take up actual sprints, it’ll keep you from going too fast initially, which can lead to injury. Enjoy your sprinting!
I found out pretty quickly that I’m not going to be sprinting, I tried it and it took me 4 days to recover. I admire anyone that has the willpower it takes to adhere to this healthy lifestyle but I’ve got to have some sugar every now and then. I can’t cut everything out of my diet that I enjoy and I’ve honestly never enjoyed exercising.
🙏😊🙏 NO WORRIES! I use a Trampoline (small one for one person), grounding too, I heard it's about the same, or lymphatic system cleaning with your hands and fingers on your own EVERYDAY...GOD BLESS YOU...PEACE BE WITH YOU!!! 👍😉
He recommends getting rid of visceral fat first as much as possible. Since it’s a very inflammatory substance and can result when sprinting in injuries to tissues as a result
The first day of any physical activity will take you 4 days to recover, if you keep doing it once recovered in the next weeks the body starts to recover faster, and after 1-2 months you won't even notice it the next day.
I have terrible acid reflux. If I eat fermented foods my throat will be burning with acid. Even just a little will give me issues. Please tell me how I can get past this. Some fruits like Apples also give me embarrassing gurgling / belching. What is going on with my body???
Being under muscled does not help either. The minimalist ( from my observation )needs a little more muscle. 😀 Losing weight is one thing, but not at the expense of losing muscle. Muscle revs up your metabolism and is a great user of glucose. Thank you for uploading and sharing.
90% of Americans metabolically unhealthy? That number seems really high. I know we have a large percentage of obese people. But I know quite a few people who are extremely healthy. And I live in the Midwest where people are more likely to be overweight. I know you can be thin, and metabolically unhealthy, but that number still seems very high.
Metabolically unhealthy includes people with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's (now called Type-3 Diabetes), sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, eczema, dandruff, PCOS, acne, hair loss, etc etc. Persistent high insulin levels due to excessive carbohydrate consumption is a big driver of disease, mild and fatal.
@@nlgarton I get that. But you mean that not one in 10 people are without these issues? My husband and I are in our 50’s and have none of these. My mom is in her late 70’s and doesn’t. Yes, my sister and my dad are obese, with multiple of these problems. My brother is balding and has a couple of health issues, but is a healthy weight. I’m saying I know there are a great many of metabolically unhealthy people in the US. I just don’t believe the number is as high as 90%.
@@chrysvest4746that number if from a study that 88% of Americans have at least 1 marker of metabolic syndrome, unfortunately a lot of people don't know they are not in optimal metabolic health. You don't necessarily need to be fat to be on your way to a diabetes diagnosis in the future.
What’s one thing you’ve done to help you lose excess weight?
Carnivore diet!!! 20lbs downs, only effectively carnivore for 4 weeks out of the year so far. 🍗🥩🥓🧂🧈
Eating healthy protein meals and salads, and JUST KEEP MOVING my body, even in the bed while I lay down...AMEN!!! 👍👏💪🙏😇🙏
Start eating real food. No added sugars, and keep carbs to a minimum. For my health, dropping grains and seed oils did wonders.
Go to a registered dietitian who was able to create an exercise regime and meal plan based on my specific needs since I have metabolic syndrome which makes it more difficult for me to lose weight.
HIIT- high intensity interval training on elliptical, or bike. Only 20 min and weights as well.

Probably the best episode of The Minimalists I’ve listened to! Thank youuuu!!!
Gotta go and do my sprints. Hehe! ❤
I’m a very healthy 58 year young. Super excited about sprints and the fermented veggies!
What a fantastic podcast...I'm feeling healthier already! Thank you kindly for your wisdom and insight, Dr. Sean O'Mara! Thank you, Minimalists!
What a superb podcast! Fantastic guest. Really enjoyed this. The information shared is greatly appreciated.
Wow! This is excellent! I've been running and now I'm excited to start sprinting!
Well done. Good on you. Plenty of good valuable content outside the pay wall and a smooth transition into the available private content. Bravo.

Blue zones is inaccurate. All those zones eat plenty of meat.
That whole blue zone things been debunked. Another bunch of data cherry picking… 🙄

Very informative and very beneficial epsiode!! LEARNED ALOT ❤ Thank you
Carnivore diet. But 2 months ago i was at a stall so i cut out cheese and the weight just fell off. 😊
I am sure people would like to copy the eating plans but I can't find any links to see what this Doctor or Joshua's weekly eating plan looks like.
Awesome episode so far. If you are not able to sprint due to a foot injury what can be done for exercise?
Any VO2 max exercise, bike sprints, rowing machine, situps. See Dr. Attia VO2 max
Stationary bike, cycle full pelt ( X1 ) at least 3:times a week should do wonders for your health.

Cucumbers are a fruit - pickles, not the cheap supermarket type - are a fermented fruit..

Hey, Dudes, At what angle is this showing? From the top or the front? The pics confuse me. Straighten me out here. Thx
It's a cross section of the abdomen at the belly button. Top is where belly is, lower side is the back.
I'm doing sprints in sneakers on the road....twist a dang ankle lol

what brand T-Shirt is Dr. O'Mara wearing?
I am also thinking generally some sports you sprint in.....like football etc
Destiny got absolutely railed in the tax debate lol
