DinkandTwink Tell your grandad that he was/is an amazing football commentator. Some people just have a great voice to commentate on great sporting events which just excites and engages the viewers. Glad he keeping strong. Hope you’re as well.
My top 5 favourites of all time are as follows; 5. John Helm 4. Alan Parry 3. Peter Brackley 2. Gary Bloom 1. Brian Moore Loved all these commentators but the late Brian Moore just ahead of the rest. RIP Peter Brackley as well as the late Brian Moore... fantastic legends of commentating on football that will remain forever for those who remember of them. Alan Green, Tony Gubba, Clive Tyldesley, Barry Davies and Jon Champion just outside.
Peter Brackley was included in PES 4 with Trevor Brookling. I missed both because that was my first PES game.😔 R.I.P Peter. I remember playing PES Brazil v Argentina a and his voice always came to my mind.
Seeing good old Tony Gubba on the list set me off on watching old clips of The Fast Show, Channel 9 reportos sporting Antonious Gubba. Loved this video a real trip down memory lane with some of the greats from when I was a kid, particular love for Peter Brackley and Gary Bloom, along with James Richardson they were essential parts of my weekends on Gazetta and the live game on Football Italia
Lots of quality commentators here! Brian Moore, Tony Gubba, Gary Bloom, Martin Tyler & Andy Gray (the ultimate commentary duo, imho), and of course - the best of them all - Clive Tyldesley.
Great video man, much appreciated. For internationals I grew up on John Helm. My dad and I were big fans. For club football for me you can't beat Rob Hawthorne, Alan Parry and MARTIN TYLER. So many memories...
Fantatsic video. So many memories tied with each commentator. I only need to see the name and I can hear the voice hehe. Loved Brian Moore and Clive Tyldesley (Barry Davies too) and as many i'm sure Martin Tyler today, but the others like I say were and are brilliant. You forget how many we've had over the years. Nice one. 👍
That Davids goal gets forgotten because of Giggs, Ronaldo Nazario and Messi doing the same its easy to forget how good he was due to how he ended his career (Crystal Palace for like 3 games and then Barnet as player-manager)
Davids was the best box to box midfielder in the world around 1998-2002. Imagine if Kante was faster, could dribble amazingly, pass long and had a cannon of a shot. What a player
90s commentators were a million times better than 2021. I even recorded the audio on tapes. I've lost my love now. Please bring back the 90s commentators, or give us the option of having none, by the way, who thought of having 2 commentators talking about rubbish during the game? 😪
What about Peter Drury? The so-called 'Football Poet' joined BBC Radio Leeds in March 1990, two years before the West Yorkshire city's local football team (LUFC) were crowned champions of England. On March 28th 1994, BBC Radio 5 Live was launched and he became part of their commentary crew, evolving from commentating on a local level (West Yorkshire) to one of these voices heard nationwide. Alongside Jon Champion, he covered the 1996 UEFA Champions League Final, as well as UEFA Euro 96 in England, rugby league, golf and swimming championships. He eventually got the big break, moving to Broadcasting House for the 1997/98 season and being handed the first opportunity to cover Premier League matches as part of BBC TV's Match of the Day (MotD) programme. His first televised commentary was on 4th of October 1997, when he covered Sheffield Wednesday's 3-1 home win against Everton. He then left for ITV in the early months of 1998, and was almost immediately selected as their junior correspondent for their coverage of the 1998 FIFA World Cup, serving as a replacement for John Helm.
Motson and Moore were the 'Old Firm' of English football commentators for many years in the 70s/80s, both were the voice of football for their respective channel. Simiilar to Archie McPherson and Jock Brown up here. Commentators are mostly bland nowadays. There are certain voices that evoke memories of certain times. Whenever I hear Ian St John, it reminds me of classic European finals and internationals back in the day, for example.
I think commentators are mostly bland nowadays because half the big commentators are the same ones from the 90s except a couple decades older. Martin Tyler was born in 1945! The younger ones like Jon Champion and Darren Fletcher have both been around since the 90s too and are in their 50s. The commercialisation of football exploded in the 90s so we'll just have to wait for that massive crop of media people to retire and die off. Also, the crowd noises are a lot more muffled and muted in modern broadcasts. Changing that back could also affect the feel.
The football and commentary are shite now days even the the coverage before games use to love itv champions league nights back in the 90s and monday night football and seria a on Sundays 😢
RIP Gerald sinstadt, you join so many former footballers and commentators on the biggest pitch in the sky. Your voice will be ever etched in my head until I join you all. Thank you for the memories.
Gary Bloom is the best commentator's voice ever in history . Just incredible .
A golden throat
He deserves to be the voice commentator of dream league soccer
Peter Brackley; the voice of Sunday afternoons on Channel 4's Football Italia.

Brian Moore the undisputed king of commentary although Barry Davies has been criminally omitted from the clip
Seeing good old Tony Gubba on the list set me off on watching old clips of The Fast Show, Channel 9 reportos sporting Antonious Gubba. It fills me with emotion when I hear the voices of Peter Brackley or Brian Moore. I am 40 years old now and their voices evoke such strong feelings
