OMG, How precious Pie is, puts a smile on my face, she and some other birds do - they sure have a lot of personality! We sure underestimate them often‼️❣️‼️👏☺️
Birds are so intelligent, they don't get enough credit. They're don't just mimicksounds, they can put them together in ways that make sense, and sometimes even communicate what they want by "speaking".
Sarah Seriah Ya I’ve heard of an instance when someone’s parrot kept screaming baby at her, and the mother was able to get to the next room in time to save her baby from choking on an object.
@@dirtypagan5793 There's also Petra the african grey who learned how to use Alexa. She could propably live by herself if Alexa could deliver her food and water.
It's astounding how clearly Pie and other speech capable birds can articulate without external lips to form letters such as "P". Also, magpies are just beautiful!
Their syrinx (which replaces our larynx) is super complex and has two chambers instead of just one since it's down at the spot where the windpipe branches into the bronchi.
OMG I have never heard a Magpie talk ..that was so cute. They are so smart too. I have a parakeet that does not talk and a 21 1/2 cockatiel that says a few words.
Couldn’t agree more, he (and other magpies) are such beautiful birds! There are lots of them where I live, but it is forbidden to feed them, because it caused a rat problem earlier. But suddenly I started having visitors on my balcony lately. You see, last year I made a very simple water feature from a simple aluminum bowl with a solar driven pump. When winter started, I just removed the pump and emptied the bowl, but I left it there. Suddenly it must have dawned on a few that it is an easy access to water. So they come visiting to drink❣️👏👍 I especially enjoyed watching one that looks young. Today we cleaned the bowl and filled it up with lots of clean water (better than that dirty rain water). I hope they’ll keep coming, when spring comes temperature wise, maybe some will be tempted to take a bath? I may set up my camera on a tripod later...
Not understanding the meaning probably helps more with the mimicking, actually. It's about where the focus is - The bird is focusing on the precise sounds, but humans normally focus on the meaning. That's why words don't sound the same when you repeat them a lot; thepart of your brain interpreting the meaning basically gets bored, leaving you with more or less the raw sound. Thus birds are more like tape recorders than speech interpreters. I think I'm more impressed by crows making tools, though the mimicking is still fascinating.
GeneralCane it’s because of the way they produce sound. Instead of having a larynx (voice box) near the top of the trachea (wind pipe) like humans and other mammals, birds have a sound organ called the syrinx, located at the base of the trachea which is why when birds sing and make other sounds they show more chest and body movement, as they force air out through this organ to produce vibrations for sound. Hope this helped!😄
I mean...if you're focusing on only a few words and their pronunciation rather than anything else, humans don't have that much trouble with replicating a few words phonetically either. (Not only that, but the words he's mimicking here are pretty easy to mimick by any human being, people with deficiency/physical impairment relating to hearing/speech notwithstanding obviously.) Sure, animal mimickry is always interesting...But to say they do it better than humans can is a gross overstatement.
magpies are one of the few animals that recognise their reflection in a mirror as themselves and not another bird only humans and gorrillas and a few other animals have that level of consciousness
Wonderful 😁😍👍❤️ The magpies (pica pica) is in fact one of the most intelligent spices on our planet. Curious and can sometimes even be annoying 😁 I have to mention that In a test made some years ago it showed that the magpie was the only bird that was passing the mirror-test by understanding that it was looking at itself in the mirror! For the one that is not aware: The magpies is mostly living in monogamy and stay helpful and loyal to their partner throughout their life. The male bird is as active as the female when it come to nesting and feeding their children. Even it is stated that the magpies has been found to “bury” their partner (by cover it with leaves and other stuff) when they die and show grief after losing their partner! An amazing an fascinating bird indeed 👍❤️
The australian magpie isn't particularly closely related to real magpies. The settlers named it a magpie because it has a similar black and white plumage.
he sounds so much like Kullike it's funny to hear. He is just like Kullike and I just can't get over it. That laugh is Kullike all over the place. I just can't get over it. It's so cute that get ready for bed and over and over...I'm sitting here laughing so hard. He is just adorable. He's a real talker..........thanks for doing this one.........just fantastic and so enjoyable................pat
This is a good way for people to be able to relate to animals. A Magpie is not just a Magpie, it is a sentient being. They teach us as we teach them. They show us -ourselves. Great video and made my heart soar ! Thanks.
You can count on one hand the number of animals that can recognize themselves in a mirror, and a magpie is one of them. Dogs, cats, ravens or crows, or even parrots aren't on that list. Magpies are on the list with dolphins, elephants, and gorillas. This bird is. Brilliant
I love my dog like almost as much as my kids, and I have had animals my whole life. My first memory is on the kitchen floor with our dog, Casey. But no animal has amazed me like the crow baby I rescued. His siblings were all dead, having their nest fall out of a tree. He was in bad shape, and I had to poke him to provoke him to eat. He had no feathers, probably only a few days hatched. I raised hm to fully feathered, and learning to fly. There is nothing like having a crow flying towards your face with a look of panic because he couldn't figure out how to land on me quite yet. He would ride on the back of my huge doberman like she was his personal limo. But when he would perch on my body and hop around, cocking his head, looking into my eyes, it was like looking into the eyes of a person. I could watch him assessing things, watching, THINKING about how to proceed. I loved him so much, as much as any animal I have ever had. And I was warned that crows raised by humans don't end well. One day I was in the back with the crow, working in the yard. He was on the telephone line only 20 feet above me. I ran inside for less than a minute and he was gone. I found him dead in the street in front of my house. The idiot neighbor, druggie white-trash was in his garage with his druggie friends. I was so pissed. I yelled, "What happened here? Did you kill this crow?" He said one of the residents ran him over.I cried so hard, and had to pick up my kids from school. My son tried to kiss the crow back to life. If I ever have the chance to rescue a baby crow again, I will watch it like a mama would. They are so smart. And when I had the baby and took him outside for the first time, every crow in the neighborhood was circling my yard, screaming and squawking. I think they finally realized that I took care of him though. Crows will be hell on you if they think you betray them or hurt their family. And they never forget it either. They even tell their babies about people who are "bad."
Pie is so beautiful and adorable. I find that whatever life brings or doesn't bring you animals are always a source of pure joy no matter how young or old you are.
Pie is really happy here. Very shiny, well taken care of, he's keeping an eye on his favorite people by performing away for you. Birds are just the best!
Such a cute kid :) One magpie who lives in the neighborhood comes to visit people too. This little guy is really so friendly with everyone no matter if people or animals (loves to play with the dogs and yesterday I saw him riding the bike with a neighbor lol). Such a great heart this small bird has. it's a blessing to have this birdy around.

Eating animal fats helps with depression, fat on meat, butter, cream, lard. Better quality like grass fed and organic if you can manage. Imagine hearing this little dude laugh in the middle of the night
My African Grey will sometimes make noises or laugh in his cage if he hears me get up in the middle of the night. He chuckles in a creepy voice lol

It's fascinating to me how birds that don't even thoroughly understand our language can mimic it on a more precise phonetic level than most of us can.
its really not that complicated. mimicry has nothing to do with understanding.
